🎥 “100 Nights of Hero” Trailer: Maika Monroe, Emma Corrin & Nicholas Galitzine Ignite a Passionate Tale of Love, Lust, and Betrayal in Julia Jackman’s Fairy Tale Fantasy Based on Isabel Greenberg’s Acclaimed Graphic Novel — In Theaters December 5th
What do you get when you cross The Arabian Nights with a queer-coded fairy tale, a gothic fever dream, and a dash of pop-star mischief? 100 Nights of Hero is a visually sumptuous fantasy that reimagines ancient folklore through a modern, feminist lens. And yes, pop star Charli XCX makes her first major screen appearance in this one.
Based on Isabel Greenberg’s acclaimed graphic novel and written and directed by Julia Jackman (Bonus Track), 100 Nights of Hero stars Maika Monroe (Longlegs) as Cherry, a young bride trapped in a loveless marriage. Soon, she becomes the unwilling subject of a cruel wager devised by her husband, Jerome (Amir El-Masry, Limbo), who vows to test her fidelity over the course of one hundred nights. What Jerome doesn’t know, however, is that Cherry’s heart already belongs to someone else: her devoted maid, Hero, played by Deadpool & Wolverine’s Emma Corrin. Together, the two women navigate desire, deception, and defiance under the ever-watchful glow of the moon.
Enter Manfred (Nicholas Galitzine, from the upcoming Masters of the Universe reboot), a dangerously charming nobleman whose flirtations blur the line between temptation and threat. Set up as the suitor in Jerome’s wager, Manfred bets that he can succeed where Jerome has failed: to seduce Cherry and produce an heir for his aristocratic bloodline. If Manfred succeeds, he wins a castle of his own. But Jerome is certain of one thing: Cherry will never let another man touch her... for reasons he has yet to discover.
As desire and tension mount, the story unfolds into an unlikely love triangle between Cherry, Hero, and Manfred, as Cherry finds herself unexpectedly drawn to Manfred’s seductive charm. What’s a new bride to do when love, loyalty, and lust all demand her heart at once?
Aside from Charli XCX, who appears in the supporting cast, Richard E. Grant co-stars as the enigmatic Birdman, and Felicity Jones as the ethereal Moon and voice of the Narrator.
Shot with painterly precision by cinematographer Xenia Patricia and crafted by a predominantly female creative team, 100 Nights of Hero is scheduled to open in theaters December 5th.
🎥 “Rosemead” Trailer: Lucy Liu Delivers a Career-Defining Performance as a Mother Facing the Unthinkable in This Devastating Mother-Son Drama with Lawrence Shou — In Theaters and On VOD/Digital December 5th
Most fans of Lucy Liu may best remember her as the sexy yet formidable Yakuza-connected assassin in Quentin Tarantino’s two-part martial arts epic Kill Bill, the feisty undercover agent in the 2000 Charlie’s Angels remake, or perhaps as the sassy, quick-witted lawyer in Fox’s long-running legal dramedy Ally McBeal. No matter which role you may recall, Liu has always brought a magnetic blend of confidence, poise, and beauty to every character she’s portrayed. But it seems she has now entered a new stage of her career—one defined not by charisma or elegance, but by the challenge of truly losing herself in a role. So, prepare to see Lucy Liu like you’ve never seen her before.
Inspired by a heartbreaking true story, Rosemead delivers what could be one of Liu’s most powerful performances yet as an immigrant mother caught in a storm of love, fear, and impossible choices.
The drama follows Irene, a distressed Chinese mother (Liu) battling a terminal illness while struggling to protect her Chinese American teenage son Joe (newcomer Lawrence Shou), whose descent into schizophrenia threatens to tear apart what remains of their fragile family. Once a standout student and star swimmer at Rosemead High, Joe’s life unraveled after his father’s death. Now, as his violent impulses grow harder to ignore, Irene faces the unthinkable: how far a parent will go to protect her child—and others—from harm.
The film marks the feature directorial debut of Eric Lin, an accomplished cinematographer whose past work includes The Sound of Silence, Hearts Beat Loud, and I Smile Back. It’s also a passion project for Lucy Liu, who spent over seven years bringing it to life and serves as a producer.
Supported by a strong ensemble of mostly Asian American actors—including Orion Lee, Jennifer Lim, Madison Hu, and James Chen—the film shines a light on the internal struggles within the Asian American community surrounding mental health and the difficulty of seeking help for such deeply personal issues.
Following its world premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, where critics hailed Liu’s performance as career-redefining, Rosemead is now set to arrive in theaters and on VOD December 5th.
🎥 “Atropia” Trailer: Alia Shawkat Blurs the Line Between Acting and Reality in Hailey Gates’ Absurdist War Drama with Callum Turner — In Select Theaters December 12th
Two decades ago, America’s war on terror was something that people took extremely seriously—to the extent that few stopped to consider the long-term consequences such a campaign would have on the country. Now, with enough distance, this subject can be viewed with both a more critical eye and a sharper sense of satire.
So, with that in mind, welcome to Atropia—where war is theater, love is unscripted, and reality has a terrible sense of humor.
Written and directed by Hailey Gates in her feature debut and produced by Luca Guadagnino, this razor-sharp satire targets the American military’s obsession with preparedness through elaborate simulations and reenactments, all while never pausing to question the true purpose behind such tactics of urban warfare.
In the film, Arrested Development alum Alia Shawkat stars as Fayruz, an aspiring actress hired to perform in a bizarre military role-playing facility designed to mimic life in a fictional Middle Eastern nation called Atropia. Her job? To sell the illusion of war to soldiers in training. But when Fayruz, acting as a local insurgent, falls for an American soldier (played by Callum Turner, Masters of the Air), the lines between acting and authenticity begin to blur—and their off-script emotions ignite something dangerously real.
Drawing from the surreal true-to-life concept of U.S. military mock cities—complete with civilians, markets, and orchestrated chaos staged for combat drills, Atropia transforms this strange machinery of make-believe into biting social commentary. Perhaps in the fabrication of war, the only thing more bizarre than the performance itself is believing one can ever be truly prepared for it.
Writer-director Hailey Gates, who previously explored this world in her 2019 short film Shako Mako (also starring Shawkat), expands her vision into a full-scale absurdist portrait of modern warfare’s theater of the absurd.
With a stellar supporting cast including Zahra Alzubaidi, Jane Levy, Tim Heidecker, Lola Kirke, and Chloë Sevigny, Atropia is slated to open in select theaters December 12th.
🎥 “H Is for Hawk” Trailer: Claire Foy Finds Healing in Nature in “The Crown” Director Philippa Lowthorpe’s Soulful Adaptation of Helen MacDonald’s Beloved Memoir — Opening in Theaters January 23rd
Grief takes flight in H Is for Hawk, a quietly powerful adaptation of Helen MacDonald’s bestselling 2014 memoir that turns loss into something achingly beautiful.
Directed by Philippa Lowthorpe (Misbehaviour, The Crown), the film reunites her with The Crown alum Claire Foy, who delivers a deeply felt performance as Helen, a woman navigating heartbreak through the fierce, unpredictable bond between human and bird.
After the sudden death of her father (played by The Banshees of Inisherin’s Brendan Gleeson), Helen retreats into solitude, haunted by memories of their shared love for the natural world. In her grief, she turns to falconry (the ancient art of training birds of prey) and begins working with a wild goshawk she names Mabel. What starts as an act of endurance slowly evolves into something more profound: a lesson in patience, surrender, and letting go; all things she must learn to apply to her own process of grief.
As Helen teaches Mabel to hunt and fly free, she’s forced to confront her own need for release—from pain, from isolation, from the impossible task of holding on to the past. Through this process, she rediscovers her strength and capacity for life beyond loss.
Co-starring Denise Gough, Sam Spruell, and Lindsay Duncan, H Is for Hawk is a meditative story where nature mirrors emotion, soaring as an intimate portrait of anguish and rebirth.
H Is for Hawk opens in theaters January 23rd.
