📺 “Landman: Season 2” Trailer: Billy Bob Thornton Returns in Taylor Sheridan’s Hit High-Stakes Texas Oil Drama with Demi Moore and Sam Elliott — Premiering Sun, November 16th on Paramount+
In the oil industry, there are two golden rules: keep the oil flowing no matter what, and never let anything get in the way of that happening. So, anyone stuck dealing with the fallout usually finds themselves caught between their company’s constant demands and the harsh realities on the ground. Seeing this play out is one of the reasons why Landman became one of last year’s surprise TV hits, as the tense drama captured both the high-stakes corporate maneuvering and the human cost behind America’s relentless oil boom.
Oh! And there’s another major reason why the show has clicked with audiences: Billy Bob Freakin’ Thornton! With his natural Southern, no-frills attitude—whether he’s negotiating with dangerous figures, squaring off with corporate climbers, or wrangling his screwed-up family members—Thornton proves he was born to play this role. He once again leads the charge as grizzled oilman fixer Tommy Norris in Season 2 of the hit Paramount+ series from creator Taylor Sheridan.
The oil fields are burning hotter than ever as Tommy finds himself yet again knee-deep in backroom deals, bloody feuds, and the kind of combustible chaos only West Texas can deliver.
Last season, Tommy was stuck between cartel threats and corporate greed. This time, he’s leveled up—standing beside Demi Moore’s Cami Miller, who now owns the company after the untimely passing of her CEO husband. With Tommy’s loyalty being tested, power is up for grabs and everyone is looking for an edge to take their own piece of the booming oil empire.
The series digs into Texas boomtowns where fortunes are made and destroyed overnight. It’s a world of billionaire boardrooms colliding with roughneck rigs, where every barrel fuels ambition, betrayal, and survival. And Tommy is not only in the mud of it all but trying to survive it with his soul still intact.
The new season expands the cast with Sam Elliott joining as Tommy’s hard-bitten father, alongside returning players Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chavez, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Colm Feore, and Andy Garcia.
Landman: Season 2 premieres Sunday, November 16th on Paramount+.
📺 “Down Cemetery Road” Trailer: Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson Tackle Murder, Secrets, and a Bombing Plot in Apple’s Darkly Comic Mystery Series Based on Mick Herron’s Novel — Premieres Wed, October 29th
There was a time when Emma Thompson was synonymous with her work in period costume dramas like Howards End, The Remains of the Day, Sense and Sensibility, and Much Ado About Nothing. Fast forward to today, and after about 45 years in the business, Thompson has proved to be a wonderfully skilled actress who can seamlessly reinvent herself and adjust to any role given. So, it’s nice that she can still surprise with each new choice as she takes on the role of a hard-boiled private eye with enough grit and wit to light up this Apple original series.
While donning a shaggy pixie cut and leather black jacket, Emma Thompson stars as Zoe Boehm, a sharp and sardonic private investigator in Down Cemetery Road, a darkly comic mystery series from the producing team behind Slow Horses. Zoe finds herself teaming up with Sarah Tucker (played by The Affair’s Ruth Wilson), a restless neighbor who believes she has stumbled onto a secret bombing plot but isn’t sure what to do about it. But when her darkest fears come true—a bomb explosion shatters a sleepy Oxford neighborhood, leaving behind two murders and the disappearance of a young girl—Sarah and Zoe are thrust into the case. Together, this unlikely duo unravels a tangled web of secrets and lies, taking on a twisty conspiracy with dark wit and plenty of British moxie.
Adapted from Slough House author Mick Herron’s novel of the same name and written by Morwenna Banks, the eight-episode series boasts a strong supporting cast including Adeel Akhtar, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Tom Goodman-Hill, Darren Boyd, Tom Riley, Adam Godley, Sinead Matthews, Ken Nwosu, Fehinti Balogun, and Aiysha Hart.
Produced by 60Forty Films, with Natalie Bailey directing, Down Cemetery Road premieres globally on Apple TV+ October 29 with its first two episodes, followed by new installments every Wednesday through December 10th.
📺 “Hal & Harper” Trailer: Cooper Raiff and Lili Reinhart Explore Messy Sibling Bonds with Mark Ruffalo and Betty Gilpin in New Indie Series — Premieres Sun, October 19th on MUBI
With his acclaimed indie dramas Shithouse and Cha Cha Real Smooth, filmmaker and actor Cooper Raiff has become a creative voice of his generation—one where emotions are worn on the sleeve, vulnerability is strength, and messy human connections are the heart of every story. He also directs in a style reminiscent of the early films of Richard Linklater, Noah Baumbach, and the Duplass brothers, meaning his work is often centered on relationships and the struggle of everyday life, captured with intimacy, humor, and raw honesty.
But here’s a question: how would Cooper Raiff fare with long-form storytelling, where he’d have to stretch his intimate, character-driven style across, say, eight episodes? Well, the answer is... Hal & Harper! It’s a new lo-fi limited series written, directed, and produced by Cooper Raiff, who also stars alongside Lili Reinhart (Riverdale) in the title roles.
In this eight-episode series streaming on MUBI later this month, Hal (Raiff) and Harper (Reinhart) are a brother-sister duo who have built their adult lives side by side in Los Angeles. Shaped by shared jokes, old wounds, and a bond that’s as comforting as it is suffocating, Hal and Harper must grapple with the fact they will be joined by a new sibling very soon. When their father (played by the always-talented Mark Ruffalo) announces he’s having a baby with his girlfriend (Betty Gilpin of GLOW), the siblings are forced to reexamine the past they’ve been carrying—and the versions of themselves they may need to leave behind.
Equal parts tender, messy, and painfully funny, the series dives into family ties that don’t always loosen with age, and the unique bond siblings share when they’re both forced to grow up faster than they ever wanted.
Hal & Harper is slated to premiere Sunday, October 19th on the streaming platform MUBI in the US, as well as in France and Latin America.
📺 “Mr. Scorsese” Trailer: Apple’s New Five-Part Doc Charts the Life and Legacy of Oscar-winning Filmmaker Martin Scorsese — Premieres Fri, October 17th on Apple TV+
Martin Scorsese might go down as one of the greatest American filmmakers of all time—if not the greatest—thanks to a body of work that has redefined cinema across generations. Even in his 80s, the legendary Italian American director is still working and putting out films that challenge our understanding of cinema itself. From Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, The Departed, The Wolf of Wall Street, to his most recent effort Killers of the Flower Moon, Scorsese has built a legacy matched by only a few, putting him in the rare company of filmmakers whose work has helped define the very art of filmmaking.
And while Scorsese is known for his encyclopedic knowledge of cinema history and has participated in and even spearheaded numerous documentaries about film, one might wonder: when will there be a biographical documentary on him? Well, good news! He has one coming out soon.
Directed by filmmaker Rebecca Miller (The Ballad of Jack and Rose, Maggie’s Plan), Mr. Scorsese is a five-part documentary event charting the extraordinary life and legacy of Martin Scorsese, told through his films, his family, and the New York streets that shaped his vision.
The docuseries offers unprecedented access to Scorsese’s personal archives, weaving candid conversations with the filmmaker himself alongside never-before-seen interviews with his collaborators, friends, and family. From Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio to Steven Spielberg, Sharon Stone, Mick Jagger, Jodie Foster, Thelma Schoonmaker, and Paul Schrader, the lineup of voices paints a vivid portrait of a man who redefined cinema.
The story spans his early NYU student shorts, the gritty breakthrough of Mean Streets and Taxi Driver, the operatic sweep of Goodfellas and Casino, all the way to his recent epics. Each chapter digs into the obsessions that run through his work—faith and guilt, violence and grace, corruption and redemption—revealing how Scorsese’s personal experiences became inseparable from his cinematic voice.
Mr. Scorsese is scheduled to premiere Friday, October 17th on Apple TV+.
📺 “Hazbin Hotel: Season 2” Trailer: Charlie, Vaggie, and the Radio Demon Return for More Musical Mayhem in Cult Amazon Animated Fantasy Hit — Premieres Wed, October 29th on Prime Video
When Hazbin Hotel, an animated fantasy musical hailing from animator Vivienne Medrano (widely known by her YouTube handler VivziePop), came out last year, it became an instant cult hit for Amazon. A lot of the fan frenzy came from the show’s vibrant animation style, infectious musical numbers, and lively anarchic spirit. Well, it seems the gates of Hell have swung open once again, and this new second season is promising even more chaos, charm, and devilish delights.
Following Charlie Morningstar’s victory over Heaven’s army, the hotel is packed with new guests, but not all of them are here to change their ways. As tensions rise, the overlord trio known as the Vees plots to flip the balance of power by taking the fight straight to Heaven. With resentment brewing on both sides, Charlie scrambles to protect her mission of redemption while keeping her dream alive in the face of chaos, temptation, and a whole lot of sass.
Season Two aims to deliver even bigger numbers, sharper humor, and wilder clashes as demons, angels, and schemers collide. Fans can also look forward to new songs, starting with the single “Hazbin Guarantee (Trust Us),” with the full soundtrack already up for pre-order.
Featuring Charlie (Erika Henningsen), Vaggie (Stephanie Beatriz), Angel Dust (Blake Roman), and the mischievous Radio Demon back in the spotlight, this eight-episode season drops Wednesday, October 29th on Prime Video, with two new episodes rolling out weekly through November 19th worldwide. Hell has never sounded so good!
📺 “The American Revolution” Trailer: Ken Burns Chronicles Liberty, Conflict, and Nation-Building in a Sweeping Six-Part Historical Docuseries — Premieres Sun, November 16th on PBS
For many, Ken Burns represents long hours spent on the sofa, binge-watching multiple chapters of a history dissertation or a sweeping biography of a historical figure. Burns might be that rare documentary filmmaker who has built a career on turning America’s past into must-see television, with his signature style of highly researched insight and stoic narration. Without Burns, we may have never had one of the most accessible and compelling bridges between academic history and popular culture.
Well, Ken Burns is back at it again, returning to the battlefield of history on a subject matter that gets to the heart of what shapes the DNA of America: The American Revolution. It’s a new six-part, 12-hour documentary set to air on PBS next month.
Partnering with his co-directing team of Sarah Botstein (The U.S. and the Holocaust) and David Schmidt (Benjamin Franklin), Burns charts how thirteen British colonies defied an empire, won independence, and reshaped the world with an audacious new form of government. Through the eyes of Continental soldiers, British officers, Loyalists, enslaved and free African Americans, Native allies, European backers, and ordinary civilians caught in the crossfire, the story comes alive not as myth but as lived experience.
It’s a portrait of contradictions as much as triumphs: ideals of liberty tested against slavery, democracy challenged by division, and the birth of a nation that would inspire generations of movements across the globe. Expect Burns’ trademark blend of personal narratives, archival imagery, and sweeping historical perspective as the docuseries revisits the Revolution and shows how its echoes still shape us today.
The American Revolution is due to premiere Sunday, November 16th on PBS.
