đ„ âWild Horse Nineâ Trailer: Sam Rockwell & John Malkovich Play Bickering CIA Operatives on the Brink of Disaster in Martin McDonaghâs Darkly Comic 1970s Thriller â In Theaters November 6th
Writer-director Martin McDonagh may have perfected the anti-buddy comedy with acclaimed films like In Bruges and The Banshees of Inisherin. These stories focus on two completely mismatched yet miserable sad sacks who canât help but bicker at each other but also canât seem to function without one another. Itâs a yin and yang of resentment and co-dependency.
McDonagh, who gave us the darkly comic Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouriâwhich earned both Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell Oscar trophies for their performancesâis back with Rockwell for the third time, following their first collaboration on Seven Psychopaths. This time, the British-born Irish filmmaker pairs Rockwell with the equally compelling John Malkovich as he once again tackles his go-to theme of throwing two deeply incompatible men into a shared predicament they canât escape.
This time, the setting is Easter Island, just days before the 1973 Chilean coup that overthrew socialist President Salvador Allende; a military takeover in which the CIA was deeply involved. Rockwell and Malkovich play veteran CIA operatives Chris and Lee, longtime partners sent on what seems like a regular assignment.
Their cover: two ordinary American tourists taking in the sights, but in reality theyâre overseeing a covert operation thatâs anything but routine.
The problem: Malkovichâs Lee has a big freakinâ mouth and erratic behavior that constantly drives Rockwellâs Chris up the wall. And if Lee ainât careful, this little operation of theirs just might go from routine to catastrophic in a hurry.
Steve Buscemi co-stars as the CIA bureau chief in Washington, D.C., whoâs been getting reports that Lee may be losing control, acting increasingly unpredictable. If so, Chris will have to decide where his loyalties really lie. âCause this just might be Leeâs last assignment... period.
Joining the core cast are iconic musician-actor Tom Waits and Emmy-winner Parker Posey, with Chilean actress Mariana di Girolamo (Ema) and Argentine actress AilĂn Salas playing two rebellious Chilean students who suspect Chris and Lee arenât exactly who they claim to be. And with Lee more obnoxious than ever, already claiming their country is going to get f-cked... well, things are bound to spiral fast. Soon, car crashes and gunfights become normal occurrences on Easter Island.
Wild Horse Nine arrives in theaters November 6th. And from the looks of things, it just might be an awards contender, though itâs far too early to call.
đ„ âBalls Upâ Red Band Trailer: Mark Wahlberg & Paul Walter Hauser Get Into a World of Trouble After Pitching the Worldâs Most Ridiculous Condom in Peter Farrellyâs New Action Comedy â Premiering April 15th on Prime Video
Back in the mid-1970s, there was a marketing phenomenon known as The Pet Rock. It was a completely useless novelty toy that exploded onto the market like a rocket and became a bestseller largely due to how it was packaged and marketed. Ever since, the Pet Rock has stood as proof that with the right pitch, you can sell anything to anyone, even a literal rock in a box with fancy packaging.
Now picture this: a condom. But not just any ole condom; one that protects the entire package â testicles included. Itâs called the Balls Up, and with the right pitch man, it just might score a lucrative World Cup Brazil sponsorship deal. And who knows, it just might turn out to be the greatest marketing miracle since a rock in a box made someone a millionaire. The question now, who would be the guy to pitch it? Well, Mark Wahlberg just might be exactly that guy for the job.
At least thatâs the ridiculously funny premise behind the new raunchy action-comedy starring Mark Wahlberg and Paul Walter Hauser as Brad and Elijah, a pair of ad executives who swing for the fences with the boldest pitch of their careers. And while Hauserâs Elijah is the wizard behind the Balls Up, Wahlbergâs Brad is the magnetic pitch man who just might have landed one of the biggest deals of his career: to have the Balls Up be the official condom for one of the biggest sporting events on the planet: the upcoming World Cup in Brazil. Itâs audacious. Itâs utterly ridiculous. And somehow, they actually pull it off.
But hereâs where things get messy. After celebrating their unlikely win with a drunken night out in Brazil, Brad and Elijah accidentally ignite an international scandal that puts targets on their backs after they accidentally ruin the Brazilian soccer teamâs chances of advancing to the championship. Suddenly, these two numbskulls are forced to scramble across South America, dodging furious soccer fans, dangerous criminals, and power-hungry officials who all want a piece of them.
Their mission? Salvage their careers, fix the PR disaster, and somehow make it home in one piece. That is, if they survive their little run-in with a notorious international drug runner played by comedian Sacha Baron Cohen.
Peter Farrelly, the director who helped define the raunchy comedy genre in the â90s and early 2000s and then pivoted to win an Oscar with Green Book, returns to his comfort zone directing this gleefully unhinged comedy. The script comes from Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the duo behind the Deadpool and Zombieland franchises. So expect nothing short of gloriously bonkers shenanigans from start to finish.
Joining Wahlberg and Hauser is a stacked cast that includes Benjamin Bratt, Eva De Dominici, Daniela Melchior, Molly Shannon, and Eric André.
Balls Up premieres April 15th exclusively on Prime Video. Itâs rated R, which should surprise absolutely no one.
đ„ âOutcomeâ Trailer: Keanu Reeves Plays a Hollywood Star Facing Cancellation in Jonah Hillâs New Comedy with Cameron Diaz & Matt Bomer â Premieres April 10th on Apple TV
Keanu Reeves might go down in history as one of the most likable movie stars Hollywood has ever seen. We canât think of anyone who doesnât love Keanu Reeves. His favorability rating is through the roof, and every behind-the-scenes story that manages to sneak out only makes him more beloved.
For instance, thereâs the story of Reeves giving up a generous portion of his back-end profit points (reportedly around $75 million) to the special effects and costume design teams behind The Matrix sequels, because he believed they were more deserving and the true heroes of the franchise. Itâs a true story. What a cool guy, right?
Which brings us to Keanu Reevesâ latest comedy, where he plays someone not all that different from himself: a big, famous Hollywood star. There is one key difference, though⊠heâs on the verge of getting canceled if he doesnât get his life in order, come clean, and ask for forgiveness. The catch? Heâs not entirely sure what he did wrong, considering his memory is still a bit hazy after a five-year drug-fueled spiral.
Outcome is the latest feature film directed and co-written by actor-comedian Jonah Hill, following his previous directorial efforts, the 2022 documentary Stutz and the 2018 coming-of-age drama Mid90s. Here, Hill returns to his comedy roots, leaning into the irony of casting one of Hollywoodâs most beloved figures as one of its most problematic.
Reeves stars as Reef Hawk, a beloved Hollywood icon who, after a five-year hiatus (secretly recovering from a heroin addiction), is ready to make a comeback. But when a mysterious video surfaces, it threatens not only to derail his career but to completely destroy any chance of him ever working in the industry again.
Hill, sporting a bushy beard and a shaved head, co-stars as Reefâs crisis lawyer Ira, who has assembled a crisis-management team of top PR experts to handle the fallout. The problem is, what exactly did Reef Hawk do that was so damaging? But more importantly, is his apology even worth anything if he hasnât done the real work to truly atone for it?
Featuring an all-star supporting cast that includes Cameron Diaz and Matt Bomer as Reefâs ride-or-die friends, while Martin Scorsese, Susan Lucci, Laverne Cox, David Spade, Atsuko Okatsuka, Roy Wood Jr., Kaia Gerber, and Ivy Wolk round out the ensemble.
Outcome is slated to premiere April 10th exclusively on Apple TV.
đ„ âTom Clancyâs Jack Ryan: Ghost Warâ Teaser Trailer: John Krasinski Returns as the World Edges Toward Catastrophe in Amazonâs Upcoming Standalone Movie â Premiering May 20th on Prime Video
Thereâs a version of the Jack Ryan story that ends with him safely behind a desk, possibly after a long and distinguished career of examining and analyzing intelligence briefs and handing over the tougher assessments to someone with more field miles and fewer reasons to go looking for trouble.
Ghost War is not that version.
The CIAâs most reluctant field operative is back. And this time, itâs for âan all-new major movie event.â So, strapped in â because if Jack Ryanâs on the job, that could only mean one thing: the world is on the brink of yet another catastrophe and the CIA canât help but meddle into exactly the kind of mess Ryan swore he was done with.
John Krasinski returns as CIA Agent Jack Ryan in this upcoming standalone film, a feature-length continuation of the popular Amazon series that ran for four seasons based on the best-selling spy novels by Tom Clancy.
Here, Krasinskiâs Ryan has stumbled onto a suspicious cluster of bank transfers. What starts as an analystâs hunch quickly pulls him out of Langley and into something far more dangerous. The trail leads across Europe and the Middle East, threading toward a rising terrorist figurehead planning a massive coordinated attack on the United States, with allies already set in motion.
Ryan didnât go looking for this. He never does. But that doesnât mean trouble stops looking for him... and itâs not like walking away when lives are on the line is something heâs ever been any good at.
Wendell Pierce returns as well, again playing James Greer, the CIA deputy director and Ryanâs closest ally and handler, a man who always seems to know more than heâs saying. Michael Kelly is also back as Mike November, now operating as a private security contractor after his Venezuela days... which means heâs either the most useful person in the room or the most complicated. Betty Gabriel also reprises her role as CIA director Elizabeth Wright, with Sienna Miller joining the cast in a role yet to be detailed.
Emmy-nominated TV helmer Andrew Bernstein directs from a screenplay by Aaron Rabin and John Krasinski, based on a story Krasinski developed with producer Noah Oppenheim.
Tom Clancyâs Jack Ryan: Ghost War is set to premiere May 20th on Prime Video.
