📺 “VisionQuest” Trailer: Paul Bettany’s Vision Questions What It Means to Be Human as James Spader’s Ultron Returns in Marvel’s Mind-Bending MCU Series — Premiering Wednesday, October 14th on Disney+
Have you ever copied a digital file on your desktop? Sure you have. But have you ever wondered if anything was lost in the process? Is the copy really the same as the original? Here’s the bigger question: if you copied a person, would they still be the same person?
That’s essentially the dilemma facing Vision as he grapples with his own identity, knowing full well that he ain’t the original Vision, but a copy with his exact memories and experiences. Whoa! That’s a lot to take in.
Which is perhaps why this new MCU series will focus on that existential quandary, as this version of Vision tries to come to terms with who he is, who he used to be, and whether there’s really a difference between the two. More human than human.
Paul Bettany returns as the rebuilt synthezoid in VisionQuest, an MCU spinoff that concludes the trilogy that began with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along.
Here, Vision is living in isolation, searching for some sense of purpose and truth within his own mind—a digital mainframe filled with remnants of his past. But that soul-searching gets interrupted when a bounty is placed on his head, forcing him on the run.
Along for the ride is Thomas Shepard (Ruaridh Mollica), a mysterious young man who may somehow be his son reborn. But how could that be possible? Well, in a world of superheroes and supervillains, pretty much anything is possible.
And if that wasn’t complicated enough, James Spader’s Ultron is back and lurking somewhere inside Vision’s programming. He’s part Jiminy Cricket-like subconscious, part greatest fear: a constant reminder of what an artificial intelligence can become when it loses sight of its humanity.
For a synthezoid trying to figure out who (or what) he really is, being a son and a father, let alone a hero, may turn out to be the most complicated part of the equation.
Surprisingly, the series arrives at just about the perfect time, with Avengers: Doomsday set for December and Marvel coming off a recent box-office win with its Avengers: Endgame encore.
Executive produced by showrunner Terry Matalas (12 Monkeys, Star Trek: Picard), VisionQuest is coming to Disney+ on Wednesday, October 14th.
📺 “The Lowdown: Season 2” Trailer: Ethan Hawke Is Back to Dig Up More Trouble in Tulsa in Sterlin Harjo’s Offbeat Crime Series, with Tommy Lee Jones and Betty Gilpin Joining the Fun — Premiering Wednesday, October 14th on FX and Hulu / Disney+
Ethan Hawke just might have found the perfect role for him. As he enters his, dare we say, Harry Dean Stanton phase of his career, Hawke seems right at home playing the scruffy, eccentric, slightly worn-around-the-edges Lee Raybon.
Hawke returns for Season 2 of FX’s The Lowdown, a neo-noir shaggy-dog crime comedy about a local Oklahoma historian and street journalist who constantly finds himself getting into trouble while digging for the truth.
Season 1 introduced us to this dusty, lived-in world where every corner feels worn down by time, every local oddball has a story, and there always seems to be a little something brewing beneath the surface. Season 2 continues Lee’s arc as a loving dad, a devoted keeper of the truth, and perhaps the last honest troublemaker left in Tulsa.
Created, written, and partly directed by Oklahoma native Sterlin Harjo, of FX’s Reservation Dogs fame, The Lowdown adds a couple of heavyweights to the cast this season. Legendary Texan actor Tommy Lee Jones joins in the fun as Lee Raybon Senior, Lee’s estranged grifter father, who suddenly rolls back into town after Lee spent years telling his daughter that her grandfather was dead. So yeah, that should make for an interesting family reunion.
Recent Emmy winner Betty Gilpin, of Widow’s Bay, also joins the cast this year as Ginger, a brash public defender and fellow crusader for the truth who pulls Lee into his latest investigation after one of her clients mysteriously disappears from state prison.
With Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Keith David, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Tim Blake Nelson, and Scott Shepherd returning, The Lowdown: Season 2 will once again take us through the eccentric, seedy side of Tulsa as Lee pokes around where he probably shouldn’t, asks questions people would rather he didn’t, and inevitably finds himself knee-deep in trouble, yet again.
The series returns Wednesday, October 14th on FX and Hulu.
📺 “Nocturne” Trailer: Stephen Graham Plays a Serial Killer Who Loves Playing Mind Games in Apple’s Twisty New Thriller Series with Liev Schreiber and Zazie Beetz — Premiering Friday, October 30th on Apple TV
The truly terrifying thing about facing true evil is that if you get too close, there’s no way you won’t be changed by it. But when it’s your job to hunt down some of the most evil criminals in the country, keeping your distance isn’t exactly an option.
In the new Apple Original series Nocturne, a currently jailed serial killer finds himself at the center of an FBI investigation, where agents believe there are more of his victims who have yet to be accounted for. It’s their job to identify them and save any who may still be alive. Now, this notorious killer can help them and be cooperative. Or he can play games, manipulate the investigation, and make them work for every answer.
He chooses the latter.
Emmy Award-winning actor Stephen Graham, of Adolescence, stars as Jurek Walter, an infamous serial killer whose manipulation and mind games make getting the truth out of him nearly impossible. He is joined by Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan) as Jonah Lynn, the veteran homicide detective who has spent years trying to catch Walter and has a long, complicated history with his case.
With a new FBI investigation emerging after one of Walter’s missing victims suddenly turns up alive, Lynn’s history with Walter becomes somewhat compromised. His protégé, tenacious FBI agent Saga Bauer (Zazie Beetz), volunteers to go undercover, posing as a death-row inmate newly relocated to the cell next to Walter.
It’s a plan that might just work. The only problem? If you stare into the sun long enough, eventually you’re going to get burned. So how long will it take before Agent Bauer gets too close to Walter and starts getting burned herself?
Created by Rowan Joffé, the screenwriter of 28 Weeks Later and creator of Amazon’s Tin Star, the series also stars The Night Of’s Bill Camp, Castle Rock’s Rory Culkin, Lanterns’ Poorna Jagannathan, and This Is Us’ Chrissy Metz.
The upcoming drama appears to be a ticking-clock thriller where the killer is already caught, yet his victims are still out there... and time is running out to find them. Now it’s up to the good guys to get close to a monster without losing themselves in the process.
Nocturne is set to premiere Friday, October 30th on Apple TV.
📺 “Phony” Trailer: Connie Britton May Not Be the Mother She Claims to Be in Hulu’s Unsettling New Thriller Series with Sam Nivola — Premiering Tuesday, October 20th on Hulu / Disney+
There’s nothing quite like a mother’s love. It can feel like a warm blanket of comfort and security. But what happens when the woman you believe to be your mother suddenly starts feeling like a complete stranger? And those feelings turn into incredibly deep suspicion. And here’s a terrifying thought: What if she really isn’t your mother?
In the upcoming psychological thriller series Phony, Connie Britton and Sam Nivola (of The White Lotus: Season 3) star as mother and son, Ellen and Sonny. It’s always been just the two of them. They’ve been nearly inseparable... best friends, even.
But when Sonny wakes up badly injured in the hospital after a horrible car accident, he begins to notice something different about his mother... something completely off about her. Is this even the same woman? This can’t be my mother, he starts thinking, even as everyone around him insists otherwise.
His suspicion and paranoia set off an increasingly desperate search for the truth, as Sonny slowly becomes convinced that this woman isn’t the person she says she is. And if that’s true... where is his mother? What happened to her? And why has she seemingly been replaced by someone who looks exactly like her, yet feels completely different?
Created, written, and directed by Nick Paley (Broad City, Nathan Fielder’s The Curse) and co-starring Meera Syal, Grace Brennan, Mahaela Park, Maliq Johnson, and Colter Lee, this eyebrow-raising mother-son thriller asks: What do you do when everything in your body says the person you love most isn’t who they say they are? And that intuition is becoming frighteningly hard to ignore.
Just in time for Halloween to give you the willies, Phony arrives on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ on Tuesday, October 20th.
📺 “Tulsa King: Season 4” Trailer: Sylvester Stallone Is Back and Ready to Crack Some Skulls as New Enemies Come to Tulsa — Premiering Friday, October 16th on Paramount+
Sylvester Stallone may have started his career as a big Hollywood action hero. But now, at 80, the Rocky and Rambo star has found a whole different kind of success on television with his mob drama, Tulsa King, which returns this month for its fourth season. Stallone is still the tough guy you don’t want to mess with, but with a little more age, wisdom, and swagger behind him.
As mobster Dwight “The General” Manfredi, this Taylor Sheridan-created series has Stallone returning to his dramatic roots, while still giving him plenty of opportunities to crack some skulls. After all, Sly’s gotta be Sly.
In the show, Dwight is a made man sent to live out his days in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after spending a long stretch in prison. It’s a city where not much happens. That is, until Dwight figures out there’s plenty of opportunity to build an empire of his own. It’s an untapped resource for the mob to move in, and Dwight is just the guy to do it.
After three seasons of Dwight and his local crew building and protecting a criminal empire from rivals, enemies, and anyone else looking to muscle in on their territory, Season 4 doesn’t seem to be all that different. This year will see new enemies (including one local Tulsa gangster rapper), power-hungry politicians (one played by Gretchen Mol), and old rivals (James Russo, Frank Grillo, and Neal McDonough) once again come knocking at Dwight’s door. All of them looking for a piece of the action.
With Martin Starr, Garrett Hedlund, Jay Will, Dana Delany, and Annabella Sciorra returning, as well as showrunner Terence Winter back at the helm, Season 4 promises even more trouble for Dwight and his ever-growing Tulsa empire.
Tulsa King: Season 4 is slated to premiere Friday, October 16th, exclusively on Paramount+.

It’s the idea that, with the right combination of alchemy and a little patience, you might just be able to create your own tiny human-like creature. Now imagine that happening in modern-day England, inside the garden shed of a lonely man looking for answers... and maybe even a new friend. Created, written, and directed by British actor Mackenzie Crook (Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, the UK’s The Office), the series stars comedian Pearce Quigley as Michael Sleep, an eccentric man whose life has been stuck in place ever since his beloved Clea mysteriously disappeared seven years ago. But when his father gives him an old alchemical recipe for creating homunculi (tiny magical creatures said to predict the future), Michael figures, why not give it a try? Also starring Michael Palin, Lauren Patel, and Crook himself, this heartfelt six-part comedy turns one man’s strange backyard experiment into a story about holding on to hope, and maybe finding a little unexpected friendship along the way.
