Going by what we see in movies and television, undercover spies have complicated lives, as their jobs are extremely dangerous and they’re prone to unquestionable violence. They serve for a greater good, and for their loyalty they often pay the ultimate price. Even James Bond has suffered multiple personal tragedies throughout the franchise, and hell, he is probably the best British spy of all.
However, what spies don’t have are private lives or the freedom to enter into relationships with genuine emotional attachments. And in no way have we learned from any James Bond movie that a spy can get this close to the Prime Minister, let alone be married to one.
Keira Knightley returns as Helen Webb in Season 2 of the acclaimed British espionage thriller Black Doves. She’s an ass-kicking undercover spy. And she’s also the wife of the Prime Minister. Which makes for some pretty interesting pillow talk. That is, when they’re not questioning each other’s loyalties.
Hailing from creator Joe Barton (Giri/Haji, The Lazarus Project), Season 1 of this Netflix series saw Knightley’s Helen Webb living a double life as an elite “Black Dove” agent and the partner of a rising politician (played by Andrew Buchan). She is then pushed deeper into the world of espionage when her secret lover, a fellow spy, is suddenly murdered, putting her on the same trajectory of double-crosses and betrayal.
Season 2 finds Helen living in even more dangerous territory, as her husband is now the UK Prime Minister. With her husband now doubting her real intentions and questioning where her loyalties truly lie, Helen is finding that being a spy is a lot easier when your private life is actually private and your spouse isn’t a public figure.
Ben Whishaw is back as Sam Young, Helen’s longtime friend and fellow Black Dove operative, who once again finds himself helping her out as Season 2 pulls them into another dangerous conspiracy.
If you’re looking for a spy show where Whishaw gets to act all snarky while Knightley is kicking, punching, and shooting bad dudes, this is the one you’ve been looking for.

Well, here’s a new Canadian series set in a small coastal town. But something tells us this show is anything but polite and safe. Are you prepared to get a little witchy with some Canucks?
In the upcoming darkly comic procedural mystery series YAGA, the case of a missing young man from a powerful local family unravels a web of suspicion and witchy folklore as investigators get pulled deeper into the town’s secrets.
Schitt’s Creek actor Noah Reid stars as Rapp, a private investigator who arrives in the coastal town of Whittock to investigate the disappearance of the heir (Hudson Williams) of a powerful local tuna family, only to be met with some resistance from the local detective handling the case. Reluctantly paired up with Whittock’s own Detective Carson (Clark Backo), Rapp soon discovers this is no ordinary missing-person case, nor is this an ordinary Canadian town.
With rumors swirling about a local witch legend, the two investigators find themselves knocking on the door of an enigmatic university professor, played by Matrix icon Carrie-Anne Moss, who is rumored to have multiple “relationships” with younger students.
Does she know the whereabouts of the missing heir? Or worse yet, is it true she’s a witch known as Baba Yaga who seduces and preys upon young men?
Created by acclaimed playwright Kat Sandler and also starring Canadian vets Sheila McCarthy and Megan Follows, along with genre vet Katharine Isabelle, Patrick Gilmore, and Hiro Kanagawa, this is one Canadian witch-themed series that knows Halloween is near and plans to cast a spell on us just in time.
YAGA is set to debut with a two-episode premiere on Friday, October 23rd on AMC+.

Whatever happened to the pirate genre? It seemed to be thriving after the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. You would’ve thought it would have lasted a little longer. Well, maybe it’s finally time for a resurgence.
And maybe all we needed was the right actor to bring it all back again. To bring back the swashbuckling, seafaring mayhem, sword battles, and battle cries.
David Oyelowo certainly has enough swagger to push the genre back from the depths as he takes on the infamous pirate character of Long John Silver in this latest reinvention of the classic tale of Treasure Island.
Oyelowo is joined by a strong ensemble cast that includes Hayley Atwell (MCU, Mission: Impossible), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Tom Sweet (Gunpowder), and Tomer Capone (The Boys).
Created by Robert Murphy (Vera, Shetland), the series follows teenager Jim Hawkins, who comes into possession of Captain Flint’s legendary treasure map and is pulled into a dangerous race to find the fortune.
Soon, Jim (Tom Sweet) and his mother, Bess (Hayley Atwell), find themselves caught in a deadly pursuit for the treasure, with Long John Silver and a revolutionary spy each determined to get their hands on it... and each willing to do whatever it takes to get that booty.
While expanding on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure, Treasure Island aims to remind viewers why pirate stories were so damn fun in the first place. It’s not just the drunken chaos and attitude, but the thrill of hunting for treasure, even if you have to cross an ocean and cut through a few enemies to get it.
Treasure Island premieres Sunday, October 11th on MGM+.
