📺 “Carrie” Trailer: Horror Filmmaker Mike Flanagan Reimagines Stephen King’s Classic for the Social Media Age with Summer H. Howell as Carrie White in New Amazon Series — Premiering Wednesday, October 7th on Prime Video
We know what you’re thinking: another Carrie remake? Haven’t we tried this before? And let’s be honest, it didn’t exactly turn out great.
And while it’s hard to argue that director Brian De Palma’s classic adaptation of Stephen King’s novel will always stand as one of the great supernatural horror films of the 1970s, that doesn’t mean this new series doesn’t have a few perks. For one, it comes from Mike Flanagan, arguably one of the biggest horror voices working today.
With popular horror miniseries like The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, not to mention his Stephen King adaptations like Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep, Flanagan has proved he has a knack for making audiences squirm while also giving them characters they actually care about. He’s also proven himself quite adept at turning King’s words into something cinematic without losing the emotional weight of the novels.
Though admittedly, this new Carrie adaptation feels like a completely different beast. Relative newcomer Summer H. Howell (Time Cut, Night of the Reaper) has been given the daunting task of stepping into Carrie White’s shoes as a socially awkward teenager struggling with relentless bullying at school and a home life that offers little escape.
Stephen King’s classic story follows a young girl who has been homeschooled by her deeply religious mother, only to be sent to public school for the first time and become the target of some extremely cruel bullying. Now set in the social media age, where online harassment is not only commonplace but also a daily reality, Carrie finds herself even more out of step with the world around her. Of course, we know the story by now: telekinetic powers begin to emerge from all that fear, anger, and humiliation, creating a powder keg just waiting to explode. And explode it does.
Amber Midthunder co-stars as the school’s P.E. teacher and Matthew Lillard as the principal, while Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Heather Graham, and Michael Trucco round out the adult cast. Meanwhile, Siena Agudong, Josie Totah, Thalia Dudek, Alison Thornton, Arthur Conti, and Joel Oulette take on the teenage roles surrounding Carrie’s increasingly volatile high-school world.
Samantha Sloyan, a frequent Mike Flanagan actress who also had a memorable guest arc appearance on The Pitt, co-stars as Margaret White, Carrie’s deeply religious and fiercely controlling mother.
Flanagan serves as showrunner and directs the first two and final two episodes, while Kate Siegel, Axelle Carolyn, Kyra Sedgwick, and Hiromi Kamata each step behind the camera for one episode.
Carrie is set to debut Wednesday, October 7th on Prime Video, just in time to make the Halloween season a little bloodier. But don’t worry... it’s only pig’s blood.
📺 “Below” Trailer: Josh Hartnett, Mackenzie Davis and Charlie Heaton Face a Mysterious Sea Creature in Netflix’s Newfoundland-Set Horror Mystery Series — Streaming Thursday, October 8th on Netflix
There’s something in the water. And if this were a normal day at the beach, it might be nothing more than a curious fish or a swimmer making waves. But this is a new sea-creature thriller starring Josh Hartnett, so if there’s something in the water, you better believe it’s not coming over to say hello. And you probably don’t want to stick around long enough to find out exactly what it is.
In Netflix’s latest supernatural thriller series, Below, Hartnett stars as Calvin Penney, a stubborn but big-hearted fisherman trying to protect his family and small Newfoundland community when a mysterious sea creature begins terrorizing the coast. Calvin already carries a strange history with the water after his father’s unexplained death, so when the town’s skepticism slowly gives way to panic and fear, he realizes the threat isn’t some drunken story told by local fishermen, but a full-blown nightmare waiting to happen.
Also starring Mackenzie Davis as marine researcher Fonda Howander, who teams up with Calvin to figure out exactly what’s lurking beneath the water before it’s too late, while Stranger Things actor Charlie Heaton plays Calvin’s son, Wade, who may have witnessed the mysterious creature emerging from beneath an enormous iceberg that suddenly appeared just outside the bay. Rounding out the cast are Willow Kean, Ruby Stokes, Rohan Campbell, Natasha Henstridge, and Mary Walsh.
Created by Jesse McKeown, whose previous producing and writing credits include The Umbrella Academy and The Sinner, the six-episode series appears to be a throwback to old-school creature features, where the mystery is just as important as the monster itself. And because it’s set in Newfoundland, a rugged Atlantic region of Canada, expect plenty of that distinct local accent that gives the story a certain seafaring charm.

American Horror Story has been terrifying audiences for 12 seasons now, giving us some of the most bizarre and twisted characters TV has ever seen. So for its 13th season, and with the number 13 carrying a little extra supernatural baggage, the series is going full greatest hits.
The new season brings back fan-favorite witches, ghosts, killers, and monsters from across the anthology’s twisted history. It’s kind of like a multiverse, with characters from different seasons crossing paths in one massive American Horror Story event. It’s like AHS: Doomsday, sort of speak.
But here’s the thing: every season usually tells a different standalone story while bringing back many of the same actors. So, if this season is pulling characters from across the anthology’s history, some cast members will be doing double duty... and even triple duty, playing multiple characters from different seasons.
So, if you thought AHS couldn’t get any weirder... well, apparently they took that as a challenge.
So, who’s coming back?
Fans can expect Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Emma Roberts, Gabourey Sidibe, Frances Conroy, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman, Jamie Brewer, and John Carroll Lynch, among plenty of other familiar faces.
And which characters are coming back?
That’s where things get really wild. Jessica Lange alone is returning as Constance Langdon, Sister Jude, Fiona Goode, and Elsa Mars, while Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will also be juggling multiple familiar roles. Fans can also expect AHS characters like Madison Montgomery, Marie Laveau, Queenie, Myrtle Snow, Twisty the Clown, Adelaide Langdon, and Winter Anderson to return.
And so, how will it all work?
Hmm. That’s a good question. It seems that’s still part of the mystery... and maybe the fun, too. Somehow, all these different characters, timelines, and nightmares are being pulled together for one massive crossover event. It’s a circus sideshow act like never before.
The number 13 has always been an omen of bad luck and things better left unexplained. So naturally, American Horror Story is treating it like an invitation.
AHS: 13 is scheduled to premiere Thursday, September 24th on FX, with streaming on Hulu / Disney+.

Prison walls have a funny way of looking the same. The same goes for prison shows. Only this time, this new series now in production is actually connected to one we already know and love: Prison Break. Set in the same world, we’re probably in for another elaborate escape plan where, somehow, secretly coded tattoos may come in handy. This time, though, the protagonist is Cassidy Collins (Emily Browning), a corrections officer working inside one of America’s deadliest prisons. Her connection to inmate Tommy (Drake Rodger) appears to be one of the big mysteries driving the story. Just how they’re tied together, and how far Cassidy is willing to go for him, remains to be seen. Also starring Lukas Gage, Sam Trammell, Chris Coy, Kerry Bishé, and Robin Weigert, the series comes from Mayans M.C. showrunner Elgin James and brings a fresh group of inmates, officers, and outsiders into the Prison Break universe.

There’s nothing like a little trauma to keep a family bonded for life. But sometimes those shared, painful memories become the very thing that tears siblings apart. The White Lotus’s Meghann Fahy and Oscar nominee Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You) star as sisters Charlie and Sam Quinn. After surviving a brutal act of violence that shattered their family and left their mother dead, the two grow up carrying the same trauma in very different ways. Charlie is now a lawyer still living in Pikeville, while Sam has built a life away from home. But when another similar act of violence rocks their small-town community, the sisters are reunited and forced to confront a past they thought they could forget. Co-starring Brendan Gleeson as their estranged lawyer father, Rusty, the mystery thriller is based on Karin Slaughter’s 2017 novel, with Slaughter herself adapting the story for television.

In order to fight for the little man, you have to be willing to take on the big guy. In this case, the big guy is Silicon Valley and all its well-funded tech bros. Mike Colter and Rachel Keller star as a pair of attorneys who take on the tech industry’s powerful elite and fight for the people getting crushed underneath them. From Robert and Michelle King, the creators of The Good Wife, Evil, and Elsbeth, the series heads straight into the heart of Silicon Valley and asks a simple question: who is courageous enough (or dumb enough) to take these people to court? It’s a David-and-Goliath story about a small law firm taking the cases no one else will touch and forcing tech giants to answer when things go wrong. Also starring Ella Stiller, Busy Philipps, and Renée Elise Goldsberry.

In the first season of this hit legal drama, based on John Grisham’s best-selling novel and the film adaptation, Rudy Baylor (Milo Callaghan) was still learning the ropes but already had little patience for playing by the rules. He returns for Season 2 with more confidence, a sharper instinct for sniffing out the BS, and two new cases waiting for him. Alongside his boss Bruiser (Lana Parrilla) and paralegal Deck (P.J. Byrne), Rudy takes on the case of a young boy in juvenile detention, only to discover the stakes are much bigger than expected. Meanwhile, Bruiser’s not-so-innocent ex-husband (played by new cast member Austin Nichols) comes back to town needing legal help after getting mixed up with some very bad people. Madison Iseman also returns as Sarah Plankmore, Rudy’s ex-girlfriend turned courtroom rival, and she appears ready to make things very personal. The pressure is on, this time both inside and outside the courtroom.

He’s the ultimate antihero. In fact, he might be the ultimate anti-villain: a psychopath who somehow manages to put his murderous impulses to good use. And now Dexter is seeing things a little clearer these days as he returns for a second season of his spinoff series. Michael C. Hall is back as everyone’s favorite serial killer, seeking out those who deserve a taste of their own medicine. Dexter hasn’t stopped running around New York. He’s again rubbing elbows with some of the most notorious serial killers in the country. Dan Stevens will be joining Season 2 as the Five Borough Killer, while Succession Emmy winner Brian Cox takes on the role of the notorious New York Ripper. They’ll be joined by Gabriel Luna as the Sleepy-Eyed Stranger, with Krysten Ritter returning as Lady Vengeance, along with Uma Thurman as Charley. It’s another season of guilty by association. Only this time, the guilt is warranted... and Dexter may have finally met his matches.

Last time we saw Daryl (Norman Reedus), he had reunited with Carol (Melissa McBride), and the two were stuck in zombie-infested Spain looking for a way back home to America. Now, as they head into the fourth and final season of this Walking Dead spinoff series, it doesn’t look like they’re getting the homecoming they were hoping for. TV legend Jimmy Smits joins the cast for the final season as Captain Alejandro Perkins, a former U.S. Navy officer and medical doctor who has found his own way to survive the apocalypse. In a series that started out in France, then slowly made its way toward home, Daryl and Carol have certainly seen it all. But we have a feeling their final journey may be the toughest road yet.

Mark Harmon had an extensive run on NCIS, playing Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs for nearly 19 seasons. But if you think they’re done with his story, think again. Harmon mainly serves as narrator as this prequel series looks back at Gibbs’s early years. It returns for a third season, with Austin Stowell back as a young Gibbs still finding his footing at Camp Pendleton. Set during the 1990s, Gibbs is still learning the job, working under Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid) while the team takes on cases that help shape the agent he’ll eventually become. No high-tech gadgets or modern-day methods to crack the case... it’s the era of analog detective work and good old-fashioned instincts. Also starring Mariel Molino, Patrick Fischler, and Bobby Moynihan, this season finds Gibbs tackling a case that will haunt him for the rest of his career, while the older Gibbs finally gets a chance to confront what happened all those years ago.

A lot of that comes down to what she no longer remembers; losing her child and the painful divorce that followed, trauma that had left her bitter and distant over the years. Molly Parker returns as Dr. Amy Larsen, a doctor whose brain injury has inadvertently made her a better person and co-worker, even as those painful memories start creeping back. A new season means new cases to solve and new memories to unlock, as Dr. Larsen proves once again that sometimes the best medicine doesn’t come from the brain, but from the heart.

It’s a four-part British docu-reality series built around a crisis-room scenario, with former politicians, military leaders, diplomats, and intelligence experts forced to respond as a simulated Russian attack on the UK unfolds in real time. Consider it an emergency exercise designed to see how experienced leaders might respond to a crisis so alarming that even a simulated one feels a little too real. What if the world is on the brink of an all-out war? Do we really want to know how our leaders would handle it? The answer might be more terrifying than the scenario itself.

You may have seen Anna Torv in countless American shows, namely Fringe, Mindhunter, and The Last of Us. But the Australian actress returns home for her latest mystery-thriller series. Torv stars as Detective Tig Pollard, who takes on a harrowing sexual-assault case that turns even darker when a key suspect is found dead. Australian producer-director Emma Freeman, who also worked with Torv on the ’80s Aussie newsroom drama series The Newsreader, directs all six episodes of this twisty crime thriller, with Kate Box, Zoe Phillips, Lila McGuire, and Juliet Stevenson rounding out the cast.

This prequel to the German crime drama 4 Blocks takes us back to 1990s Berlin and the early years of the Hamady family. Rami Fadel Khalaf stars as Malik Hamady, a father trying to build a better life for his family after fleeing Lebanon. But when his brother-in-law Ibrahim (Tariq Al-Saies) is released after eight years in prison, Malik’s plans for a fresh start begin to unravel, pulling the family deeper into Berlin’s criminal underworld.
