📺 “Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85” New Trailer: The Duffer Brothers Rewind to Winter 1985 With an All-New Animated Spinoff Packed With Monsters, Mystery, and a Lot of ’80s Vibes — Premiering Thurs, April 23rd on Netflix
Just when we thought Netflix was done with Stranger Things, along come the inevitable spinoffs. This time, it’s an all-new animated series that returns to the town of Hawkins and unfolds during the winter break between Seasons 2 and 3. And if the show’s finale was set in November 1987, this rewinds the clock back two years to when the Hawkins gang were still a bit younger and a lot more naive about the Upside Down.
Harkening to the style and energy of classic ’80s Saturday morning cartoons, this animated throwback finds Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, and Max still balancing friendship, D&D, and the illusion of normalcy. But of course, this is Hawkins, and normal never lasts long. Just beneath the frozen surface, something new is stirring… something that suggests the danger never really left.
With showrunner Eric Robles (of Nickelodeon’s Fanboy & Chum Chum and Glitch Techs) at the helm and the Duffer Brothers producing, the animated series seems to be leaning into ’80s nostalgia while also hinting at a darker undercurrent as the kids get pulled into another monster-filled mystery that feels smaller in scale but just as unsettling.
Between snowball fights and winter hijinks, the Hawkins crew may think they’re catching a break. But in this town, even a quiet season comes with a chilling catch.
Produced by Flying Bark Studios and featuring an all-new voice cast of young actors taking on the lead roles, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is slated to premiere Thursday, April 23rd on Netflix.
📺 “Running Point: Season 2” Trailer: Kate Hudson Returns to Face Family Power Plays and Championship Pressure in Netflix’s Basketball Comedy Series — Premiering Thurs, April 23rd on Netflix
Fresh off her Oscar nomination for her lead performance in the musical drama Song Sung Blue, Kate Hudson returns to more familiar territory, reprising her role as the ever-driven Isla Gordon in Season 2 of Netflix’s Running Point.
Executive produced by Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, the comedy series is a wildly exaggerated fictional take on Buss’s life as a woman raised in a basketball dynasty who had to prove she was more than capable of taking over the family’s business as the team’s new president.
In Season One, Hudson’s Isla Gordon, a reformed socialite, found herself thrust into the top job of the professional basketball team, the Los Angeles Waves, after her older brother was pushed out following a public scandal. Stuck in the shadow of her famous father and second-guessed by her own brothers, Isla pushed past public skepticism to prove she was more than just a temporary fix.
Now heading into Season Two, Isla is no longer the surprise choice. She’s the one firmly under the spotlight. With the franchise finally steadying after last season’s fallout, she’s determined to prove she deserves the job, even as her brother Cam (Justin Theroux) quietly begins maneuvering for a comeback behind the scenes.
As power struggles heat up within both the organization and her own family, Isla must juggle boardroom politics, locker room egos, and the pressure of chasing a championship, all while navigating a family dynamic where loyalty rarely lasts and winning tends to smooth over everything.
Scott MacArthur, Drew Tarver, and Fabrizio Guido return as the Gordon siblings, while Brenda Song’s Ali, Isla’s best friend and the team’s chief of staff, may be eyeing ambitions of her own this time around. Meanwhile, players like Toby Sandeman’s Marcus Winfield and Chet Hanks’ unpredictable Travis Bugg keep the on-court drama just as volatile.
From executive producers and co-creators Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, Running Point: Season 2 premieres Thursday, April 23rd on Netflix.
📺 “Unchosen” Trailer: A Devoted Wife Faces a Crisis of Faith When a Fugitive Outsider Disrupts Her Religious Community in This British Psychological Thriller Starring Molly Windsor, Asa Butterfield, Fra Fee & Christopher Eccleston — Premiering Tues, April 21st on Netflix
Community is something one might take for granted, until you realize just how much it can shape your entire world. Sure, a community can offer safety, belonging, even a sense of purpose. But it can also come at the cost of freedom and self-autonomy. And sometimes, it takes an outsider to show you just how much you’ve given up to stay within it. Add religion to the mix, and what once felt like a simple circle of friends and family can become something far more complicated… maybe even a psychological cage you don’t realize you’re living in.
That’s exactly the space Unchosen operates in, a new British thriller series from creator Julie Gearey (Intergalactic, Prisoners Wives) that drops us inside a cloistered religious sect where faith isn’t just a way of life… it’s the rulebook.
At the center is Rosie, played by Molly Windsor (Three Girls), a devoted wife and mother whose world begins to quietly unravel when an outsider arrives, asking for help and salvation. What begins as a portrait of structured devotion soon shifts into something far more uneasy. Rosie’s marriage to her husband Adam (played by Sex Education’s Asa Butterfield) is already showing signs of strain, but the arrival of a mysterious stranger named Sam (Fra Fee, from Hawkeye and Rebel Moon) throws everything into sharper focus. As Rosie starts to notice the cracks in the system she once trusted, her growing connection to Sam begins to complicate everything she thought she believed. But when it’s revealed that Sam is a wanted fugitive on the run, Rosie spirals into a deeply personal crisis of faith that threatens to unravel everything she thought she knew.
The six-episode series is directed by British TV helmers Jim Loach (Criminal Record, Save Me) and Philippa Langdale (A Discovery of Witches, Dickensian), each taking on three episodes, with Gearey writing and executive producing. The series leans into a growing sense of control slipping away, both within the community and behind closed doors at home.
Acclaimed actor Christopher Eccleston (The Leftovers, Doctor Who) also stars as the community’s authoritative preacher, with Happy Valley alum Siobhan Finneran rounding out the cast as his wife. If the trailer is any indication, this isn’t an indictment on religion per se, but rather a look at how faith can be weaponized to control... and how fragile some communities can be when that control is challenged.
Unchosen debuts Tuesday, April 21st on Netflix.
