🎥 “Wicker” Trailer: Olivia Colman Finds an Unconventional Romance With Alexander Skarsgård’s Woven Husband in This Darkly Comic Fantasy Fable with Peter Dinklage and Elizabeth Debicki — In Select Theaters October 23rd, Expanding Nationwide October 30th
Here’s a serious question: Does one have to be married to be considered happy? Does one need to find a partner to somehow feel that their life is complete?
Now, here’s a completely unserious question: If we could somehow construct a romantic partner out of wood fiber and wicker, would you want one?
Well, Oscar-winner Olivia Colman gets to explore this bizarre scenario in the wildly off-kilter fairy tale Wicker, where one woman’s desire for companionship leads her to commission a husband woven entirely from wood. Talk about finding someone who’s willing to “bend” over backward for you.
Set in a conservative seaside village, this darkly comic fantasy fable follows an ostracized fisherwoman (Colman) who has grown tired of being mocked for living alone. So, she approaches the local basketmaker, played by the always wonderful Peter Dinklage, with an unusual request: build her a husband.
The result is Alexander Skarsgård as the Wicker Husband. He’s a soulful, spectacular creation whose mere presence awakens not only desire and fascination throughout the village but also heated jealousy among some residents.
Sure, the fisherwoman’s newfound happiness may be unconventional, as her husband is made out of woven wood. But that also means her nights are no longer lonely. And what he lacks in flesh and blood, he more than makes up for in nighttime stamina. If you catch our drift.
But this unconventional couple soon exposes just how fragile the community’s ideas about marriage, respectability, and belonging really are, especially once some residents begin questioning whether their own partners measure up.
Elizabeth Debicki, Marli Siu, and Nabhaan Rizwan round out the cast of this comic fantasy from married writer-directors Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson, who previously made 2020’s indie alien-invasion comedy Save Yourselves!
Adapted from Ursula Wills-Jones’s short story “The Wicker Husband,” filmmakers Fischer and Wilson made the wise decision not to turn Skarsgård’s character into a fully CGI creation. Instead, they went to Weta Workshop to develop a makeup and suit design tailored to the actor’s face and expressions. The results, judging from this trailer, are pretty astonishing, if you ask us.
Following a world premiere earlier this year at Sundance, where it received strong reviews, Wicker is now set to open in select theaters October 23rd before expanding nationwide on October 30th.
🎥 “Victorian Psycho” Trailer: Maika Monroe Plays a Demon-Possessed Governess With Murder on Her Mind in Zachary Wigon’s Twisted Gothic Horror with Jason Isaacs, Thomasin McKenzie, and Ruth Wilson — Coming to Theaters This Fall
Maika Monroe has played a variety of strong women chased by evil in horror hits such as It Follows, Watcher, and Longlegs. Now she gets to revel in villainy as a woman possessed by a gleefully sadistic and homicidal presence. And, strangely enough, she seems to enjoy every moment of it.
Set in Victorian England, Victorian Psycho follows Monroe’s Winifred Notty, an eccentric governess who arrives at a remote Gothic manor to care for its children. Beneath her proper manners and dutiful routine, however, lurks something far more sinister than she is letting on. There’s a demon living inside her, and whenever it comes out, terrible things tend to follow.
As strange events unsettle the household and members of the staff begin disappearing, the manor’s owners slowly realize their new governess may not be an innocent witness to the danger. She may very well be... the danger.
Jason Isaacs, Thomasin McKenzie, and Ruth Wilson round out the cast of this psychological period thriller, adapted from Virginia Feito’s horror novel.
Zachary Wigon, the director behind the Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbott–starring BDSM dark comedy Sanctuary, calls the shots, seemingly bringing a twisted sense of humor to this world of Victorian hierarchy, repressed desires, and polite domestic suspicion.
With every role she takes, Monroe continues to reveal new layers as a performer. This time, she appears ready to trade survival instincts for murderous impulses, killing her way into a family she wants to call her own. Slay, queen!
Victorian Psycho will be slashing its way into theaters this fall. Come for the Gothic atmosphere, but stay for Maika Monroe’s murderous grin. That is, assuming you’re not too busy covering your eyes.

Only a handful of true comic-book geniuses can say they’ve changed the entire landscape of the medium; artists whose work not only broke the rules but shattered the boundaries of comic-book art. Bill Sienkiewicz is, without question, one of them: an artist’s artist whose expressive paintings, collages, and mixed-media experiments helped transform Moon Knight, The New Mutants, and Elektra: Assassin into visual landmarks. Directed by Remsy Atassi, this indie documentary traces Sienkiewicz’s Polish-American immigrant story, creative evolution, and work across comics, film, television, posters, and music. He may be “that Polish guy” to some, but his fingerprints are all over the way modern comics look.

There are cult filmmakers, and then there’s Alejandro Jodorowsky, who is one of the defining figures behind the midnight-movie movement of the 1960s and ’70s. This fourteen-disc collector’s edition gathers ten of Jodorowsky’s films spanning more than five decades, from the spiritual provocations of El Topo and The Holy Mountain to the autobiographical visions of The Dance of Reality and Endless Poetry. Alongside Fando y Lis, Santa Sangre, Tusk, The Rainbow Thief, Psychomagic, A Healing Art, and Frank Pavich’s documentary Jodorowsky’s Dune, the set includes Jodorowsky-supervised restorations, four Dolby Vision presentations, commentaries, interviews, featurettes, and a hardbound book. It’s a lavish tour through surrealism, mysticism, personal mythology, and artistic rebellion, but with Jodorowsky, even a collector’s edition can feel like a portal. Unfortunately, this collection is being released outside the U.S., but if you already consider yourself a Jodorowsky fan, you likely already have a similar collection or a region-free player.
🎥 “Street Fighter” Special Look Clip: Jason Momoa Goes Green as Blanka Opposite Andrew Koji’s Ryu in Kitao Sakurai’s Live-Action Video-Game Reboot — Hitting Theaters October 16th
After playing Lobo in Supergirl this summer, Jason Momoa is heading back to the big screen for another larger-than-life role: Blanka. This special look offers a better glimpse at Momoa’s green-skinned, orange-haired take on the fan-favorite beast, who brings plenty of ferocity to the World Warrior Tournament. Starring opposite Andrew Koji as Ryu, Momoa joins Noah Centineo’s Ken and Callina Liang’s Chun-Li in director Kitao Sakurai’s live-action reboot, where a global fighting competition hides a much bigger conspiracy. The tournament may belong to Ryu and Ken, but Blanka already looks ready to steal the show.

Some summers teach you who you are; this one teaches Sid how painful it can be to stop pretending.

Real-life sisters Kate Mara and Rooney Mara have built respected acting careers of their own, but now they finally get to share the screen together. And we do mean share. In this first-look clip, the Mara sisters play Jean and Joan Holbrooke, two inseparable sisters who speak in unison, love the same man (Orlando Bloom), and seem to move through life as if they’re living inside the same dream. Written and directed by legendary auteur Werner Herzog, this strange sibling drama, loosely inspired by British identical twin sisters Freda and Greta Chaplin, follows the world’s attempt to understand a bond that refuses to fit ordinary explanation. Courts, reporters, helpers, and opportunists may all try to define the Holbrooke sisters, but Herzog seems more interested in the mystery of two tightly bound people who have already created their own private reality.
