🎥 “Werwulf” New Trailer: Aaron Taylor-Johnson Is Cursed by the Full Moon in Robert Eggers’ Medieval Werewolf Horror With Willem Dafoe and Lily-Rose Depp — Hitting Theaters December 25th
Robert Eggers is one of the most fascinating filmmakers working today. His films are visually striking, often creating some of the most sumptuous and richly detailed imagery we’ve seen in recent years. But Eggers has also built a reputation for being deeply committed to research and historical accuracy. Just look at his last two films, The Northman and Nosferatu, as examples of how extensively he relies on research to create worlds that feel rooted in their respective periods.
He isn’t simply creating images that evoke a certain sense of folklore and authentic atmosphere; he’s building entire environments around that history, almost like a visual time machine that his actors get to step inside and inhabit.
Werwulf, his latest folklore-steeped horror, isn’t just another example of what Eggers has been building toward, but seems to push that obsession with historical authenticity even further, complete with old-world dialogue and syntax steeped in “thee,” “thou,” “thy,” and “shall.”
It’s a werewolf movie for sure, but it’s also Eggers’ interpretation of an era where religion, faith, damnation, persecution, famine, and catastrophe all shaped how people understood the world around them... and perhaps how they tried to explain the terrible things that happened to them.
“One more moon.” The latest Werwulf trailer begins with this warning that immediately sets up a possible ticking-clock scenario. Perhaps the villagers have only one more chance to hunt down and kill the “beast” before the next full moon.
And who just might be this beast?
Aaron Taylor-Johnson, we presume. Here he plays a mud-covered peasant living with his family in England in 1305, trapped in a harsh existence, struggling to provide for his children and wife. Eggers renders this world in muted, dull, nearly monochromatic tones. Everything looks drained of color.
Judging from the trailer, Taylor-Johnson’s character might be cursed in more ways than one. We often see him shaking violently, looking sick and frightened, caked in muck and blood, and almost possessed, as whatever is inside him appears ready to take over.
Willem Dafoe, another frequent acting collaborator of Eggers, joins the hunt as what appears to be a king-appointed hunter sent to rid the countryside of “beasts.” And judging by his declaration that “Every wolf shall die,” he doesn’t seem particularly interested in leaving any survivors.
Lily-Rose Depp, who just recently played the damsel at the center of Nosferatu, reunites with Eggers once more, appearing here as Taylor-Johnson’s wife. She seems to be stuck between two terrifying realities: the growing threat surrounding her family and the possibility that the man she loves may be the very beast everyone is hunting.
After tackling witches, lighthouse keepers, Vikings, vampires, and now werewolves, Robert Eggers might just be that filmmaker who was put on this earth to gleefully drag us back into the darkest corners of folklore and superstition. And believe us, we happily go along for the ride... every DAMN time.
Werwulf scratches its way into theaters on Christmas Day, December 25th.
🎥 “Clayface” Final Trailer: DC Goes Full Body Horror as Tom Rhys Harries Begins to Lose His Face... and His Identity in This New Supervillain Origin Story With Naomi Ackie — Coming to Theaters October 23rd
Since the launch of this new DC cinematic universe a few years ago, there’s been a lot of pressure on James Gunn and his ability to mold this franchise into the shape he sees fit. Of all things, Clayface just might tell us what the new DC Universe really is at this point. Almost accidentally, it mirrors how we see the DCU these days, with its constantly shifting tones and genres. If Superman is earnest superhero myth and Lanterns is a grounded, socially conscious detective procedural, then Clayface is perhaps a signal that this universe isn’t fixed yet. Like clay itself, it can be molded and shaped into something different with each new project.
Which would mean this movie comes along at the perfect time. After this summer’s box-office misfire of Supergirl, the DCU could certainly use a quick pick-me-up. And Clayface just might be exactly the change of shape it needs. It’s a body-horror movie that also happens to be based on a comic-book supervillain. And judging by the early buzz and online discourse, people seem to be digging that DC is, once again, willing to shift genres and tones.
Directed by James Watkins, the British filmmaker behind horror films like Eden Lake, The Woman in Black, and Speak No Evil, DC’s Clayface casts British actor Tom Rhys Harries in one of his most prominent roles to date. His previous credits include The Gentlemen, White Lines, Suspicion, Kandahar, and Doctor Who.
Here, he takes on the lead role of Matt Hagen, a rising Hollywood actor whose career is brutally cut short after he’s horribly disfigured. Through an experimental scientific breakthrough, Matt is able to restore his appearance, but the treatment comes with an unexpected side effect: he can now mold and transform his face into seemingly anyone. But it’s an ability he’ll need to learn to control before he loses control of himself.
Naomi Ackie (of Blink Twice and Mickey 17) co-stars as Caitlyn Corr, a scientist who appears to have some connection to the experimental treatment that reconstructs Matt’s face. She also seems to be the moral compass of the story, warning Matt to control his newfound abilities even though she knows that it’s slowly turning him into something unrecognizable.
So, what exactly is Matt turning into? Well, considering this is based on a Gotham supervillain, it’s not anything good... or anything close to heroic.
And if you ask us, there’s more than a little bit of the Sam Raimi cult classic Darkman in all of this: a horribly disfigured man living in the shadows who suddenly has the ability to wear someone else’s face. But the more he transforms, the more he seems to lose whatever is left of himself. Color us intrigued.
Also co-starring David Dencik, Max Minghella, and Eddie Marsan, Clayface is melting its way into theaters.

Brad Pitt is back as Cliff Booth! But here’s the million-dollar question: back to what? Back to his old tricks? Back to being a stuntman? Back to riding around Hollywood with Rick Dalton? Well, no... not exactly.
In a rare move for Quentin Tarantino, he has passed an original screenplay off to another director to call the shots. It’s a sequel to Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood, Tarantino’s love letter to the Hollywood he was raised on.
Now, if that movie was a nostalgia-laced fairy tale about the final days of 1960s Hollywood, this one looks like what happens after the fairy tale ends, with Los Angeles itself beginning to decay into a shell of its former self. It’s a decade later, the ’70s, and it seems the only things left are rumors and Hollywood legends, including the stories people still tell about Cliff Booth. So that begs the question: how does he fit into all this?
Well, who better than director David Fincher to be handed the rather unusual task of taking Tarantino’s character and dropping him into a much darker and murkier era of Hollywood? The bloom is off the rose, yet Cliff is still hanging around, scraping by on the fringes of a town that seems to have moved on without him.
The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth can be seen as a standalone sequel, where Cliff has gone from Rick Dalton’s stuntman and right-hand man to the center of his own story. Gone are the fairy-tale aspects, wish-fulfillment fantasies and callbacks to the golden age of Hollywood that defined the first film. Now we’re getting a much grungier crime tale, where Cliff is barely getting by working odd jobs as a bartender at a local dive bar and a film projectionist at a rundown movie house, only to find himself getting involved with local ruffians and being pulled into the city’s underbelly.
That’s not to say the film looks like your typical David Fincher dark crime thriller. If anything, the trailer suggests Fincher may be having a little more fun this time around, playing with the growing mythology surrounding Cliff himself.
“Let’s just say I know what it’s like to kill someone with a knife,” Cliff tells Charlie Peters, a Hollywood actor (played by Scott Caan) who seems fascinated by Cliff’s real-life experiences with violence.
“Wow,” Charlie responds in the new trailer, like a starstruck fan who just met one of his heroes.
And while the city has become grittier and more unforgiving, Cliff appears to be more stoic than ever. Daily life is beating him down. At one point in the trailer, we see him sitting alone on a chair inside a freezer, bags of frozen peas wrapped around his knee and hip. Cliff may still carry himself like the same cool bastard we remember, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel the pain.
Co-starring Elizabeth Debicki, Carla Gugino, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth is set to open in IMAX theaters on November 25th before debuting a month later on Netflix on December 23rd.
It’s one of the rare Netflix movies to get a theatrical release before hitting the streaming service, which could mark a new trend for the streaming giant. It certainly adds more fuel to the ongoing discussion over whether Netflix should give more of its original movies a proper theatrical run.
🎥 “Ray Gunn” Trailer: Private Eyes, Femme Fatales, One-Eyed Aliens, and Flying Cars Populate the Future in Brad Bird’s Retro-Futuristic Noir Starring Sam Rockwell, Tom Waits and Scarlett Johansson — In Select Theaters December 4th, Streaming December 18th on Netflix
It has been a long and arduous road for Brad Bird, but after more than 30 years, he finally got the chance to complete his passion project. And wouldn’t you know it, it’s an animated retro-noir filled with aliens, private eyes, femme fatales, jetpacks, flying cars, and just about everything you’d expect from the guy who gave us The Incredibles, The Iron Giant, Ratatouille, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and Tomorrowland (okay, we can forgive him for that one).
Ray Gunn features the voice of Sam Rockwell as Raymond Gunn, an old-school private eye trying to make a living in Metropia, a gigantic retro-futuristic city where 1930s and ’40s aesthetics still dominate the architecture and design.
Musician and actor Tom Waits provides the voice of Eye-Ra, Ray’s one-eyed alien partner, who joins him in doing detective work the old-fashioned way: with a lot of gut intuition and a nose for trouble.
Scarlett Johansson steps in as the voice of Venus Nova, Metropia’s controversial multimedia superstar and the femme fatale at the center of Ray’s latest case involving murder and conspiracy. His job is to keep an eye on her and keep her out of any more trouble. But this wouldn’t be a noir tale if it were that easy.
Dripping with old-school Dashiell Hammett atmosphere mixed in with Bird’s distinctive flair for retro-futurism, Ray Gunn has been a long time in the works, as Bird had wanted to make the film even before The Iron Giant. But after a couple of false starts and years spent trying to get the project off the ground, Skydance Animation and Netflix finally gave Bird the opportunity to bring his long-gestating passion project to fruition.
Also featuring voices from Alan Tudyk, Kathryn Hunter, Patton Oswalt, Matt Berry, Bobby Cannavale, Michelle Rodriguez, and John Ratzenberger, Ray Gunn is scheduled to hit select theaters on December 4th (likely for an Oscar-qualifying run) before arriving on Netflix December 18th.

You gotta ask yourself one thing: Can you suspend your disbelief long enough to buy Nicolas Cage as NFL icon John Madden? If so, then you’re golden. If that’s a problem, well, there probably aren’t enough prosthetics or fat suits in Hollywood to make it any easier.
Nicolas Cage, in what has to be one of the more unexpected swings of his career—and that’s saying something—takes on the task of portraying the larger-than-life football coach, broadcaster, and eventual video game icon in this football biopic from director David O. Russell, who returns to the sports world for the first time since The Fighter.
Once again teaming up with Oscar-winner Christian Bale, this time as legendary Raiders owner Al Davis, O. Russell tells the story of the friendship and partnership that helped turn John Madden and the Raiders into one of football’s most recognizable institutions.
As a beloved coach and wildly entertaining broadcaster, Madden broke new ground in sports broadcasting with his deep knowledge of the game and uncanny ability to explain it to just about anyone, even if his telestrator scribblings sometimes seemed indecipherable.
In some ways, the movie is also the origin story of how Madden became one of the most recognizable figures in NFL history, eventually lending his name and expertise to what would become one of the biggest sports video game franchises of all time, simply known as Madden.
Also starring Kathryn Hahn, John Mulaney, Sienna Miller, and Shane Gillis, Madden hits select theaters November 11th before streaming globally on Prime Video November 18th. And with Thanksgiving football game becoming an annual tradition, expect the streamer to give this one a pretty big promotional push heading into the holiday.
🎥 “You Can See Everything” Trailer: Comedian Nathan Fielder and Co-Director Lance Oppenheim’s Elizabeth Holmes Documentary Asks, How the Hell Did They Get Her to Agree to This? — In Theaters October 16th
It was the surprise hit of Telluride, shown in a secret screening earlier this month to rave reviews. Since then, it’s become a major headline, with everyone asking the same question: How the hell did comedian Nathan Fielder land infamous tech fraudster Elizabeth Holmes for a documentary about the days leading up to her imprisonment?
More importantly, why the hell did Holmes agree to let Fielder, co-director Lance Oppenheim (Primetime), and an entire documentary crew into her home just 34 days before she was sent to prison? They were apparently given extraordinary access: allowed to shoot wherever they wanted and ask pretty much any question they wanted.
And this wasn’t just a handful of interviews. What started during those final weeks before Holmes went to prison somehow turned into a secret three-year project, with Fielder and Oppenheim making a documentary that seems to get stranger and harder to define the deeper they go.
Is it part performance piece, part documentary exposé, part elaborate Nathan Fielder prank? Is Holmes somehow in on the whole thing? Or is that uncertainty exactly the point? Because when you put Nathan Fielder in a room with Elizabeth Holmes, two people who, in very different ways, understand the power of controlling what other people see and believe, how the hell do you know what’s actually real?
You Can See Everything is slated to open in theaters October 16th. And it’s slowly but surely become one of the most talked-about new films (let alone new documentaries) coming out this fall.
🎥 “The Rescue” Trailer: Brandon Sklenar and the Family Dog Head Down a Violent Path to Save His Kidnapped Daughter in Potsy Ponciroli’s Gonzo Neo-Western with Hassie Harrison and Josh Lucas — Hitting Theaters January 29th
They took his daughter and thought they could get away with it. What they didn’t count on was a father willing to go to the ends of the earth to bring her back home. And, of course, no one expected the secret weapon helping him track her down: the family dog. And you thought your dog was something because he learned to sit on command.
In this neo-Western revenge thriller, The Rescue, Brandon Sklenar (1923, It Ends with Us) stars as a rugged former rodeo cowboy who takes matters into his own hands when his daughter is kidnapped and held for ransom. Instead of following police orders to stay put, he heads deep into the wilderness, convinced his daughter is being held somewhere on a remote mountain.
Just how does he know?
The family dog has picked up her scent and led him to the bottom of a mountain trail. And when you’re that desperate, that’s a good enough clue to send you down a violent path where anyone standing between you and your daughter had better get out of the way. ’Cuz this cowboy ain’t just mad... he’s packing some serious heat.
Co-starring Hassie Harrison, Josh Lucas, Nick Searcy, Austin Amelio, Tim Blake Nelson, and Josh Duhamel, the film is directed by Potsy Ponciroli, the cult filmmaker behind the acclaimed Western Old Henry and the ’70s-style Alan Ritchson revenge thriller Motor City. Which should give you a pretty good idea of what kind of movie we’re dealing with here: a gonzo revenge thriller that looks like it’s part spoof and part completely earnest.
The Rescue comes to theaters January 29th.

Hmm, let’s count all the ways we’ve seen the President of the United States in peril on the big screen. Air Force One had the president trapped on a hijacked plane. White House Down and Olympus Has Fallen brought the fight straight to the White House. Now we can add another one to the list, with Samuel L. Jackson playing a president forced to fight for his life inside his own presidential limousine, commonly known as Cadillac One... or, more appropriately, “The Beast.” This time, the Pres teams up with his injured Secret Service agent (Joel Kinnaman) as they fend off a militia attempting to overthrow the U.S. government. Directed by Die Hard 2 and Deep Blue Sea helmer Renny Harlin, this looks like the kind of gloriously over-the-top action movie that knows exactly what we want: Samuel L. Jackson screaming f-bombs while blowing shit up with machine guns mounted to his presidential limo. All hail the chief... motherf-cker!

Unhappy with your life? Well, would things be any better if there were two of you? Hmm. Maybe not. Elizabeth Banks stars in this not-too-distant-future thriller about a dissatisfied mother and housewife named Carol who checks into a virtual wellness retreat hoping to get her life back on track, only to return home and discover that a robotic version of herself has taken her place. John C. Reilly plays her husband, Gary, who has grown increasingly disconnected from his wife and soon finds himself living with a seemingly improved robotic version of her. While the family seems to love this new Carol, the real Carol quickly realizes her robotic replacement may have no intention of giving her old life back. Hailing from acclaimed photographer and artist Alex Prager, who makes her feature directorial debut, this visually gripping dark comedy-thriller suggests that in the future, being replaced by technology isn’t just a figure of speech... it might become a little too literal.

Here’s a little fun fact: Before Chris Columbus became known as the director of Mrs. Doubtfire, Home Alone, and the first two Harry Potter films, he got his start as a screenwriter, with one of his earliest major screenwriting credits being the original Gremlins. Well, it seems he’s been working his way back to the director’s chair for the third installment in the Gremlins film series, which has officially been greenlit for production. Set for release in October 2028, the film will bring Gizmo and those mischievous little creatures back to the big screen for the first time in nearly four decades. The announcement also came with this little teaser promo, giving us our first glimpse of Gizmo’s return.
🎥 “Paper Tiger” New Trailer: Adam Driver and Miles Teller Chase the American Dream Straight Into the Russian Mafia in James Gray’s New York Crime Drama with Scarlett Johansson — In Select Theaters November 13th
Acclaimed filmmaker James Gray returns to explore the fragile bond between two brothers: one a devoted family man and the other, a mob-tied middleman. When a promising business opportunity suddenly arises, Adam Driver’s Gary and Miles Teller’s Irwin see a chance to finally grab their piece of the American Dream. You might know Martin Mull as an actor, a comedian, a musician, or even an accomplished painter. The simple truth is, he really was all of those things. Mull was something of a Hollywood Renaissance man, a true jack (or “jerk,” as Mull would joke) of-all-trades who could make you laugh on shows like Roseanne, Arrested Development, and Two and a Half Men, or pop up in movies you’ve probably seen countless times, including Clue, Mr. Mom, and Mrs. Doubtfire. But acting was only one part of a much bigger creative life. This new retrospective documentary was started by Mull’s friend and fellow comedian Bob Saget before his death, then completed by filmmaker Neil Berkeley (Beauty Is Embarrassing). Mull sadly died just a few years after Saget. Through Mull’s own words and stories from friends and colleagues, the film celebrates a guy who spent his life doing a little bit of everything... and never seemed particularly interested in being defined by any one thing.

With archival footage and never-before-seen interviews with Wilder, it feels like one more opportunity to spend some time with him... and a reminder of just how much we still miss the guy.
