People have dreams they know they’ll probably never achieve in their lifetime. Hell, some dream of making it to the NFL one day, while others dream of becoming Superman.
David Corenswet is the rare guy who somehow got to do both. The DC superhero trades his red cape for a pair of shoulder pads as he tackles the true story of football underdog John Tuggle.
In the upcoming inspirational sports drama Mr. Irrelevant, John Tuggle is the last player selected in the 1983 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. His odds of making the team are slim to none. But much like Rudy and other great underdog stories before him, John never quits and never lets the odds define what he’s capable of on the football field. T
hrough grit and sheer determination, Tuggle earns his place on the Giants roster, only to be dealt the biggest blow of his life: a shocking cancer diagnosis. Now the real fight begins.
Directed by Jonathan Levine, who previously tackled a similarly themed real-life cancer dramedy with 50/50, Mr. Irrelevant gives Corenswet his first leading role since becoming Superman in James Gunn’s DC Universe. And the buzz so far suggests Corenswet could find himself in the awards-season conversation.
He is joined by Isabel May as John Tuggle’s girlfriend, Katie, who helps him through his cancer battle, while Michael Shannon portrays legendary Giants coach Bill Parcells.
David Krumholtz, Takudzwa Matsatsa, and Ella Newton round out the cast.
Mr. Irrelevant is coming to theaters on December 25th, a sweet spot for crowd-pleasing tearjerkers looking to make a run during awards season.

Godzilla Minus One wasn’t just a global phenomenon; it likely singlehandedly reinvigorated the world’s enduring love for Godzilla.
(And yes, we know Legendary’s MonsterVerse was also making Godzilla films at the same time, but let’s be real here, okay?)
The 2023 kaiju epic offered a surprisingly more grounded, emotionally weighted approach to the franchise, setting the story in the immediate aftermath of World War II. With the country in total disarray, struggling to recover from a nuclear attack, Godzilla wasn’t just an atomic-age monster, but also a symbolic manifestation of the devastation and trauma left behind.
And for filmmaker and visual-effects artist Takashi Yamazaki, the effort was more than just bringing Godzilla back to the screen, but bringing him back to his roots. Yamazaki and his visual-effects team were eventually rewarded with an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, making the original a bona fide international success.
Now, with a sequel on the horizon, it’s quickly becoming one of the most anticipated films of the year. People are simply going ga-ga for Godzilla.
(And once again, yes, we know Legendary’s MonsterVerse films have been huge box-office hits... but c’mon, okay?)
Anyhoo,Godzilla Minus Zero is set two years after the events of the original film, bringing back Ryunosuke Kamiki as Koichi and Minami Hamabe as Noriko to once again face the return of Godzilla.
This time, there’s a new plan. An alternative plan. Yeah, so, plot details have been kept under wraps, and the filmmakers have been very coy about revealing what comes next. But something tells us this “Plan B” involves waking up a new kaiju monster to take on Godzilla. Because the best way to fight a monster is to have a bigger monster in your corner.
Of course, which monster could it be... Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah? So many usual suspects. As of right now, your guess is as good as any.
Also starring Hidetaka Yoshioka, Yuki Yamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Sakura Ando, Miou Tanaka, Min Tanaka, Masami Nagasawa, and Jun Kunimura, with Takashi Yamazaki returning as writer, director, and lead visual-effects supervisor, Godzilla Minus Zero is set to make its world premiere later this month at the New York Film Festival before opening in Japan on November 3rd and U.S. theaters on November 6th.
The film will also mark the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX, with selected sequences presented in the expanded 1.43:1 format. So, Godzilla... just a little bigger.
🎥 “Artificial” Teaser Trailer: Andrew Garfield Plays OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in Luca Guadagnino’s Silicon Valley Drama — In Select Theaters December 25th
It’s interesting that this feels a lot more like a sequel to The Social Network than Aaron Sorkin’s actual companion piece. And it doesn’t hurt that Andrew Garfield stars in both pictures, but clearly filmmaker Luca Guadagnino is tapping into a similar Silicon Valley vibe, where some of the smartest guys in the room also happen to be the creepiest.
Artificial isn’t coming out until the end of the year, but it has already had a fascinating journey getting there. Originally produced by Amazon MGM Studios, the film was nearly completed before being dropped by Amazon earlier this year. The reason? The official word was little more than a professional parting of ways.
But one could surmise it had something to do with the subject matter. It’s a not-too-flattering portrait of Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI (better known as the company behind ChatGPT) with Andrew Garfield playing him during the company’s early days, just as it’s on the verge of becoming one of the most powerful forces in tech. And given that Amazon had just signed a multimillion-dollar deal with OpenAI only days before dropping the film altogether, many were left to wonder whether the timing was more than coincidental.
Anyway, NEON Films is now behind the film and is set to distribute it in theaters this December. It’s a little scary that a star-studded film like this can be dropped at a moment’s notice. A little less scary knowing there are still distributors out there willing to take the risk.
Written by former SNL writer and novelist Simon Rich (Miracle Workers), the film seemingly will cover Sam Altman’s rise at OpenAI and the internal power struggle that eventually led to his brief ousting as CEO.
Other notable cast members include Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk, while Oscar nominees Yura Borisov and Monica Barbaro play OpenAI executives, along with Cooper Hoffman as board chairman Greg Brockman. Rounding out the cast are Chris O’Dowd, Jason Schwartzman, and Mark Rylance.
Artificial is set to make its world premiere next month at the New York Film Festival before landing in select theaters on December 25th.
🎥 “Remain” Teaser Trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal Falls for a Mysterious Phoebe Dynevor in M. Night Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks’ New Mystery Thriller — In Theaters February 5th, 2027
Author Nicholas Sparks is known for his sultry Southern love stories, where romance often comes wrapped in heartbreak and loss. Filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan, meanwhile, is famous for his twisty mystery thrillers, usually ending with a shocking reveal in the third act.
So, how the hell did these two get together in the first place? And better yet, what kind of story did they come up with?
Well, M. Night Shyamalan and Nicholas Sparks are certainly not a pairing we had on our bingo card. But they did collaborate on the story for a new thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor.
And it seems to have a little bit of both of their qualities: it’s an atmospheric mystery thriller with a romance at its center, but it’s not quite as straightforward as that, as the story appears to lean into the supernatural. Perhaps even a ghost story.
In Remain, Gyllenhaal stars as Tate Gordon, a reclusive architect who moves to a small coastal town to complete his latest project. While grappling with a devastating personal loss, Tate soon finds himself drawn to Wren (Dynevor), an alluring young woman who has a mysterious air about her.
As she begins pulling him out of his shell, a mystery surrounding Tate’s new home reveals something a bit on the supernatural side, which might explain why Wren seems to be a little more mystifying than most women.
Is she a ghost? Maybe a figment of his imagination? Or something else entirely? Well, knowing Shyamalan and Sparks, the answer probably won’t be quite as simple as the girl next door.
Written and directed by Shyamalan, based on a story he created with The Notebook author, Remain co-stars Ashley Walters, Julie Hagerty, and Jay O. Sanders, and is set to hit theaters next year, on February 5th, 2027.

Known in the history books as the Mosquito Bowl, several of the country’s best college football players, who had volunteered to fight in the war, organized one last game before heading back into combat. Director Peter Berg, of Friday Night Lights fame, brings this nearly forgotten piece of history to the screen with a rousing war drama starring Nicholas Galitzine, Bill Skarsgård, Ray Nicholson, and Tom Francis as four celebrated college football players who enlisted in the U.S. Marines, but still got one last chance to return to the game they loved before preparing for the invasion of Okinawa.

Times are strange. And we can admit that sometimes it feels like we’re living through some of the most surreal times imaginable. And everything just seems to get stranger by the day. So coming up with a political satire that somehow reflects our current reality might be harder than it sounds. In fact, you may have to go to bizarre lengths just to capture how absurd everything has become. Well. Enter Tom Cruise in a cowboy hat, boots, and old-man prosthetic makeup. This isn’t just one of the broadest, most over-the-top characters he’s ever played; it just might go down as one of the strangest performances of his career. Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, a wealthy and powerful Texas tycoon who might be humanity’s last hope of saving the planet from a serious ecological disaster. Problem is, he’s also the one who caused it. Oscar-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu goes full Dr. Strangelove as he tackles the idea that the most powerful people in the room are often the very ones making the biggest mess for everyone else to clean up.

He’s a skilled young scuba diver, and the whale is hungry. Boom! The diver suddenly finds himself trapped inside the whale’s stomach with less than an hour of oxygen. Just imagine the popcorn bucket sales alone. Directed by Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You, Spontaneous) and co-starring Josh Brolin as Abrams’ recently departed father, whose survival lessons may hold the key to his escape, the film turns one seriously bizarre premise into a race against time, and just might be the surprise hit of the fall season.

Veteran filmmaker Roland Joffé (The Killing Fields, The Mission) directs this historical conspiracy thriller that takes a look at one of the most disputed theories surrounding the Kennedy assassination: the alleged involvement of the Italian American Mafia, specifically the Chicago Outfit. John Travolta stars as mobster Johnny Roselli, one of the figures the film places inside that conspiracy. Joining him are Robert Carlyle as Jack Ruby, the mob-connected nightclub owner who killed Oswald; Dermot Mulroney as mob hitman Chuckie Nicoletti; Mandy Patinkin as mob boss Anthony Accardo; and Yellowstone’s Jefferson White as Lee Harvey Oswald himself.

With Tenzing’s guidance and deep knowledge of the terrain, the group was able to navigate the mountain’s brutal conditions, but only two would make it to the top... with Tenzing being one of them. Co-starring Caitríona Balfe, Thinley Lhamo, and Tenzin Dalha, the film is helmed by documentarian Jennifer Peedom, whose award-winning doc Sherpa chronicled the deadly 2014 Mount Everest ice avalanche and explored how Sherpa climbers helped make many of the mountain’s most ambitious expeditions possible.

This story is rooted in grief, asking whether it’s possible to fall in love again after losing the person you thought you’d spend your life with. Directed by Rachel Morrison, the Oscar-nominated cinematographer behind Black Panther and Mudbound, from a script by Julia Cox, the film sees Qualley as Maya, a young woman trying to rebuild her life after the death of her first love, Charlie (Gabriel Basso). While traveling through Portugal on a journey of self-healing, Maya meets Felix (Aaron Pierre), who slowly opens the door to love again. With his latest, it looks like we might be getting a little bit of everything. Starring Leonardo Sbaraglia, Bárbara Lennie, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Patrick Criado, and Rossy de Palma, the Spanish film follows two intertwined stories separated by more than two decades. In one, a screenwriter and filmmaker finds himself wallowing in a creative drought and writer’s block, while in the other, an advertising director from a different era struggles through a long December weekend that slowly becomes the story he is trying to write. A story within a story... possibly with another story buried inside. Well, if that doesn’t sound like peak Almodóvar, what does?

Brought to you by Angel Studios, best known for its faith-based films, this looks like one of the studio’s biggest swings yet.

It’s another life-affirming, heartfelt British comedy-drama starring Rhys Ifans as a British schoolteacher whose unexpected Parkinson’s diagnosis leads him into a new chapter of his life. Grappling with the emotional weight of the diagnosis and the possibility of future heartache and uncertainty, he soon crosses paths with an American woman (Laura Linney) who not only shares his condition but has recently joined a support group where people with Parkinson’s learn ballet as a way of coping with their illness. When it comes to heart-tugging melodrama, the Brits have become masters at threading that needle between sentimentality and genuine emotional honesty. This looks to be no exception.

Bennani and Barki are multimedia artists as well as New York-based filmmakers who have conjured up an experimental animated film that tells the wildly imaginative autobiographical story of Bennani, a Moroccan filmmaker living in New York, and her complicated relationship with her mother in Casablanca. The twist here is that all the characters are depicted as dog-like anthropomorphic animals. It’s a bittersweet story about the complicated bond between a daughter and her mother, who just happen to be a little furrier than most.

Written and directed by Kevin Schreck (Persistence of Vision), the documentary charts the rise, fall, and lasting influence of United Productions of America, better known as UPA. It was an independently run animation studio from the 1940s whose artists created some of the most distinctive and influential cartoons of their era. UPA wasn’t just another studio trying to follow Disney’s lead; it broke new ground, creating cartoons, commercials, and independent short films in a style all its own. The documentary is slated to make a festival run in 2027.
