🎥 “Ink” Teaser Trailer: Jack O’Connell, Guy Pearce, and Claire Foy Chronicle the Rise of The Sun and the Birth of Tabloid-Driven Journalism in Danny Boyle’s New Newsroom Drama — In Select Theaters December 11th, Streaming January 8th on Netflix
They often say, “If it bleeds, it leads.” It’s the idea that the most salacious stories get the front page of the newspaper. But what if all the stories were gossip-fueled sensationalism designed to grab your attention rather than actually inform you?
Well, you have a world where most of society is more interested in being entertained than informed. And what is supposed to be news starts sounding more like trashy blather dressed up as actual journalism.
Sounds awfully familiar, doesn’t it?
Well, Oscar-winning filmmaker Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting, 28 Days Later) is exploring the possible moment when news started turning into tabloid-driven entertainment (at least on the UK side of things) with his latest film, Ink.
Starring Jack O’Connell, Guy Pearce, and Claire Foy, the drama dramatizes the birth of The Sun, one of the UK’s most controversial (and also best-selling) newspapers, considered one of the first to bring a more sensationalized style of journalism into the mainstream. Sex, scandal, and spectacle become just as important as the news itself. And it may have helped pave the way for the kind of tabloid-driven news culture we still see today.
Set in the late 1960s and based on James Graham’s acclaimed stage play, the story follows the team behind The Sun as they set out to reinvent the newspaper and, in the process, change the face of British journalism.
O’Connell plays chief editor Larry Lamb, tasked with turning the struggling paper into something people actually want to read. Foy plays one of the reporters helping drive that change, becoming part of a newsroom that’s more interested in grabbing readers than playing by the old rules. Pearce plays a young Rupert Murdoch, the Australian tycoon who became the new owner of The Sun and would eventually bring that same aggressive, attention-driven approach to the U.S. years later with the launch of Fox News.
Ink is set to make its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival this month. It’s also set to open in select theaters on December 11th before arriving on Netflix in the U.S. and Latin America on January 8th.
🎥 “Atonement” Trailer: One Fatal Decision During the Iraq War Leads to a Decades-Later Search for Forgiveness in This Powerful True-Story War Drama Starring Kenneth Branagh, Boyd Holbrook and Hiam Abbass — Hitting Theaters October 2nd
The hardest part isn’t saying you’re sorry. It’s having the other person hear your apology and then deciding whether they can ever forgive you. That’s the agonizing process behind genuine atonement. And it’s something that feels increasingly rare these days, when so many people would rather dig in, double down, and refuse to admit they were wrong. Or worse yet, blame the other side.
Based on true events, this powerful war drama tells the story of a U.S. Marine whose split-second decision during the Iraq War devastated an innocent Iraqi family. The decision to open fire on an approaching car becomes the worst decision this soldier will ever make. Years later, still haunted by what happened, he makes the difficult choice to confront the people whose lives were forever changed by his actions.
Written and directed by Reed Van Dyk, who makes his feature-film debut after receiving an Academy Award nomination for his 2017 live-action short DeKalb Elementary, Atonement stars Kenneth Branagh as the New Yorker journalist helping uncover the untold story behind the case and interviewing those involved.
Boyd Holbrook (Narcos, A Complete Unknown) takes on the role of the Marine struggling with the consequences of what he did, while Palestinian-French actress Hiam Abbass (Succession) plays the Iraqi family matriarch who is asked to confront the American soldier whose decision to open fire during a Baghdad firefight devastated her family forever.
Told through both a reconstruction of those events and their painful aftermath, the film ultimately asks a difficult question: when the damage is this profound and can never truly be undone, is forgiveness even possible?
Atonement is coming to theaters October 2nd.
🎥 “Fortitude” Trailer: Ed Skrein, Matthew Goode, Nicolas Cage, and Michael Sheen Wage World War II with Fake Tanks, Double Agents, and One of History’s Most Audacious Deceptions in Director Simon West’s New WWII Action Flick — Coming Soon to Theaters
There was a time when World War II films were considered almost blasphemous if they weren’t treated with the utmost seriousness. For a filmmaker to make even the slightest joke about that particular war would have been considered in poor taste.
Well, times have changed. Enough time has passed that filmmakers can now take a more revisionist approach to the era, and maybe have a little fun with it. So, with that in mind, here is Fortitude, an action-driven, darkly comic historical drama about one of the greatest deceptions of World War II.
Based on the real-life World War II operation where Allied intelligence created an elaborate deception to fool the Nazis in the lead-up to D-Day, complete with fake, blow-up rubber tanks and misleading radio messages, the film takes a look at some of the ridiculous lengths the Allied forces went to in order to win the war.
Boasting an all-star cast that includes Nicolas Cage, Matthew Goode, Ed Skrein, Alice Eve, Ron Perlman, Ben Kingsley, Jordi Mollà, Lukas Haas and Art Malik with Michael Sheen as Winston Churchill, the film follows British spy-soldiers Dudley Clarke (Skrein) and Thomas Argyll “TAR” Robertson (Goode) as they recruit a motley team of spies, double agents, and intelligence operatives to pull off one of the greatest operations of World War II... which also happens to be one of its most absurd.
Directed by Simon West, best known for helming the equally bonkers ’90s action flick Con Air, the film also marks something of a reunion with Nicolas Cage. The film, itself, follows a recent trend of World War II actioners that are less interested in treating the era with solemn reverence and more willing to lean into its stranger, more outrageous true stories.
Fortitude will be coming soon to theaters.
🎥 “Street Fighter” New Trailer: Noah Centineo and Andrew Koji Enter the World Warrior Tournament as Ken and Ryu in a New Action Film Based on Capcom’s Iconic ’90s Fighting Game — Arriving In Theaters October 16th
How do you adapt a video game built around a global fight tournament and a roster of larger-than-life fighters? Well, you make sure every punch is personal, and the fight is about more than winning a title. But when you’re talking about one of the most iconic fighting video games of the ’90s, you’d better make sure it delivers something fans recognize. Get the look right. Get the vibe right. And don’t forget the callbacks and nods that made the game memorable in the first place.
Directed by Kitao Sakurai, who seems to understand the assignment, this latest attempt to bring the Street Fighter games to the big screen looks like it’s trying to give fans the characters, attitude, and that famous arcade energy they’re hoping for.
Here, Noah Centineo (soon to play John Rambo in the new Rambo reboot) and Andrew Koji (from Snake Eyes and Warrior) star as fighters Ken Masters and Ryu, who are thrown back into combat when Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the World Warrior Tournament. Once as close as brothers, Ken and Ryu enter the tournament carrying a fractured past, but they’ll soon learn they need to rely on each other again if they’re going to survive.
With each round comes a new opponent, crazier than the last, and these so-called street fighters aren’t only battling for the title... they’re fighting to settle old scores, old rivalries, and prove the one left standing isn’t just the best, but perhaps the most dangerous fighter of them all.
Also starring Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoai as Akuma, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Orville Peck as Vega, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, Alexander Volkanovski as Joe, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, and Jason Momoa as Blanka, this isn’t just a video game adaptation. It’s a throwback to the kind of action films where the heroes were larger than life, the villains chewed the scenery, and every fight ended with someone crashing through a wall... or worse yet, a few broken bones and cracked jaws.
Street Fighter arrives in theaters October 16th.
🎥 “The Last Photograph” Trailer: Filmmaker Zack Snyder Goes More Intimate and Surreal with Fra Fee and Stuart Martin in His Haunting New Drama-Thriller — World Premiere at TIFF September 13th
Zack Snyder is a filmmaker known for his big, operatic visual spectacles. And that style has worked well for him, as he’s mostly tackled larger-than-life action movies (300, Sucker Punch), comic book adaptations (Watchmen, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), and genre films (Dawn of the Dead, Army of the Dead). But with his latest feature, The Last Photograph, Snyder is going a little more intimate and, dare we say, a little more artsy.
Set to make its debut at TIFF this month, Fra Fee stars as a washed-up war photographer who agrees to help an ex-DEA operative (Stuart Martin) search for his missing niece and nephew. As they travel deeper into the mountains of South America, the two men find themselves moving farther from civilization and closer to something increasingly surreal. The journey may have started as a search for two missing children, but the deeper they travel, the more it becomes a reckoning with the ghosts they’ve both been carrying.
In typical Zack Snyder fashion, the film appears to lean into high-resolution digital imagery, giving it a stark, almost photographic look, like something out of a Life magazine photo spread. It’s a mix of high-contrast, deep-focus photography and haunting, music video-like imagery, which is pretty much what you’d expect from a filmmaker like Snyder.
Snyder has recently worked with Netflix on his Rebel Moon sci-fi films and the zombie actioner Army of the Dead. This film, however, appears to be independently produced by Snyder alongside his longtime producing partner and wife, Deborah Snyder. As of now, it doesn’t have a distributor, and we don’t know whether it will eventually make its way to Netflix, as we believe he may still have an overall deal with the streamer.
The Last Photograph is currently scheduled to make its world premiere at TIFF next week, where we’ll likely learn more about its potential distribution.
🎥 “You Can See Everything” Teaser: Comedian Nathan Fielder Asks Convicted Theranos Founder Elizabeth Holmes If She’s “Being Real” in A24’s Secretly Filmed Documentary — In U.S. Theaters This October
Wait, what?
So, Nathan Fielder made a documentary about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes... and Holmes actually agreed to be in it? Wait, what’s going on here? Is this real, or another elaborate Nathan Fielder prank where we, the audience, are led to believe we’re watching one thing while something else is happening?
That’s right: Nathan Fielder, the deadpan comedian and star of hit semi-scripted shows like Nathan for You and The Rehearsal, has teamed up with documentarian Lance Oppenheim (Some Kind of Heaven, HBO’s Ren Faire and the upcoming Primetime) for a new project that not only features convicted tech fraudster Elizabeth Holmes, but lets us hear her in what appears to be her own natural voice.
In what might be the most bizarre wrinkle of all, Holmes is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence, and the project reportedly began filming 34 days before she reported to prison in 2023.
In true Nathan Fielder form, the first teaser for the upcoming feature-length documentary has Fielder speaking directly to Holmes and asking if she is “being real right now.”
A dewy-eyed Holmes responds, “I’m always being real,” before the camera pulls back to reveal a quiet domestic scene with a small baby at her feet.
Well, something tells us this is exactly the image she wants us to see. Or perhaps this is exactly what Fielder wants us to see, since the whole project seems designed to make us question what’s real, what’s performed, and who is controlling the image.
Despite numerous exposés and dramatizations of her life, Holmes has remained one of the most elusive figures in the recent history of Silicon Valley scandal. Which again makes us question how and why Fielder wanted to tackle a subject like this in the first place. But who knows, perhaps he is the perfect person to cover such a slippery, mysterious figure like Holmes.
From A24 and co-directed by Fielder and Oppenheim, You Can See Everything is coming to U.S. theaters this October. Just imagine the popcorn bucket for this one... hmm.

In this David-versus-Goliath true story, Judy is a young disabled woman and activist who, in 1977, leads a nationwide protest to occupy federal buildings in what would become known as the Section 504 sit-ins. Refusing to leave, the protesters begin what would become a nearly month-long sit-in, hoping to pressure the government into enforcing disability rights legislation. Judy and her fellow protesters are able to organize support from multiple activist groups, including the Black Panther Party and antiwar activists, in a rare show of solidarity for the era. Mark Ruffalo, Dylan O’Brien, Rob Delaney, Ray Fisher, and Daniel Durant round out the cast in this unbelievable true story about how one person fought against the odds... and won.
🎥 “Mouse” Trailer: Katherine Mallen Kupferer and Sophie Okonedo Form an Unexpected Bond Through Shared Grief in Kelly O’Sullivan and Alex Thompson’s Heart-Wrenching Family Drama — In Theaters November 6th
What do you do when someone you love passes away unexpectedly? Perhaps it’s not about what you do, but who you turn to for support and understanding. In this new emotionally wrought family drama from Kelly O’Sullivan and Alex Thompson, the directors of the equally heart-wrenching Ghostlight, the story begins in the aftermath of an unexpected death. For Minnie (Katherine Mallen Kupferer), it was her close high school friend, Callie (Chloe Coleman). For Helen (Sophie Okonedo), it was her teenage daughter. But as these two women grieve in their own way, they find themselves turning to each other, forming an unexpected bond through their shared loss and leading them down a path neither expected to take. Also starring David Hyde Pierce and Tara Mallen, the film could certainly be seen as a tear-jerker, but it might also be that emotional hug we sometimes need when life hits us the hardest.

🎥 “Mum, I’m Alien Pregnant” International Trailer: A Very Bizarre Alien Encounter Leads to One Seriously Twisted Pregnancy in This New Zealand Sci-Fi Horror-Comedy Starring Hannah Lynch — Coming Soon
Pregnancy horror is a subgenre that taps into the anxieties of bodily change and the fear that something unfamiliar may be growing inside you. New Zealand horror, however, tends to bring a very different flavor, often mixing the grotesque with twisted humor and a distinctly deadpan delivery. Keep that in mind, because this sci-fi-tinged pregnancy horror comes from New Zealand-based filmmaking duo Sean Wallace and Jordan Mark Windsor, who go by the collective name ... (wait for it) THUNDERLIPS. Hannah Lynch stars as a young woman whose life is turned upside down after she accidentally becomes pregnant following a bizarre encounter with a suspected humanoid alien (Arlo Green) sporting a tentacle-like penis. Not sure what to do... or how to even begin explaining it, the would-be mother must navigate skeptical doctors, a useless baby daddy, an oversharing mum, and a pregnancy that is anything but normal.

As martial law descends on Poland, she inadvertently captures photographic evidence of a student’s murder by the secret police, putting herself directly in their crosshairs and turning her visit into a desperate fight to escape the country. Inspired by Olga Tokarczuk’s short story, this tense political thriller, directed by Polish filmmaker Kasia Adamik, is a reminder that sometimes the most gripping stories are the ones rooted in history.

🎥 “Tyler Perry’s Doing Life” Trailer: A Former Correctional Officer and an Ex-Con Reconnect Years After a Prison Riot in Tyler Perry’s New Heartfelt Romantic Drama Starring Naomi Baker and Jay Reeves — Streams October 2nd on Netflix
Somehow Tyler Perry has squeezed yet another feature film onto his already crowded slate of movies and television projects. This time, the writer-director-producer mogul gets a little more intimate with this urban drama about two people finding an unexpected connection while struggling through very different hardships. Naomi Baker stars as a former correctional officer who was pregnant when her life was spared during a brutal prison riot by an inmate (Jay Reeves), who protected her and helped get her to safety. Years later, after staying in touch through letters, the two reunite and begin an unexpected relationship. But now it’s not prison bars keeping them apart, it’s suspicious family members questioning whether they truly belong together. Perry, not exactly a filmmaker known for subtlety, seems to be leaning hard into the emotional stakes of a single mother looking for love, companionship, and support, and a good-hearted ex-convict searching for redemption, purpose, and a second chance.

🎥 “Angel’s Egg: 4K Restoration” Trailer: Mamoru Oshii and Yoshitaka Amano’s Haunting 1985 Anime Classic Restored in Stunning 4K — Collector’s Edition Arrives September 22nd
Sometimes anime gets put into a box, labeled as belonging to only certain genres or audiences. But this anime classic is proof of just how far the medium can stretch. Mamoru Oshii, director of Ghost in the Shell, and legendary illustrator Yoshitaka Amano joined forces in the mid-1980s for an experimental post-apocalyptic science fantasy that became a groundbreaking anime classic and inspired generations of artists and animators. Now newly restored in 4K, the atmospheric film returns with its haunting underwater city, surreal Gothic imagery, and dreamlike fantasy intact. At the center is a young girl protecting a mysterious egg she believes holds an angel, while a boy carrying a gun searches for a bird he once saw in a dream. Strange, beautiful, and deeply enigmatic, this remains a powerful reminder that anime has never belonged inside a neat little box.
🎥 “Begotten: 4K Restoration” Trailer: E. Elias Merhige’s Underground Experimental Horror Oddity Returns to Theaters with Its Grain, Shadows, and Black-and-White Creepiness Intact — In Theaters October 1st
There are rare films that can truly shock you just by how strange and deeply bizarre they are. This is one of them. Filmmaker E. Elias Merhige made one of the most disturbing and uncompromising underground films in history with this black-and-white, mostly dialogue-free experimental horror film. It lived for decades as an underground oddity, passed around by horror fans and experimental-film obsessives like some forbidden artifact. Merhige would later direct music videos for Marilyn Manson and earn acclaim for his cult horror film Shadow of the Vampire, which brought Willem Dafoe an Oscar nomination for playing Nosferatu actor Max Schreck as if he really were a vampire. But Merhige may end up being best remembered for his first experimental horror film, a work that still continues to creep people out even now. It’s receiving the 4K restoration treatment, but just remember: some of that grain is part of the experience. It was creepypasta before creepypasta had a name.
🎥 “Dracula: 4K Restoration” Trailer: Hammer’s 1958 Horror Classic Returns With Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and Long-Missing Footage Restored in 4K — Back in Theaters This October and Out on Limited Collector’s Edition October 26th
If there’s one performance that comes close to rivaling Bela Lugosi’s classic take on Dracula, it’s Christopher Lee’s. Sixty-eight years after its original release, this iconic Hammer classic is returning in a newly restored 4K presentation, bringing Lee’s towering version of Dracula back to the screen in all its blood-soaked Gothic glory. Also includes long-missing footage from the original Japanese cut. As one of the films that helped define the Hammer horror era, its influence still looms large over the genre. With Peter Cushing (aka Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars) playing Doctor Van Helsing, the film pits two screen legends against each other in a classic battle of good versus evil. And as we inch closer to Halloween, there’s no better time to revisit some true horror classics... preferably in 4K! If you’re going back to the classics, you might as well see them in the highest definition possible, am I right?

Filmmakers Itab Azzam and Jack MacInnes follow Israa and her family across borders and through a decade of upheaval, capturing her journey from an 11-year-old refugee to a young woman in Germany trying to understand where she truly belongs. Ambitious, heartbreaking, and deeply personal, the documentary turns one family’s experience into a moving portrait of what it truly means to be a refugee and asylum seeker.

🎥 “The Librarians” Trailer: A New Documentary Goes Inside America’s Heated Battle Over Book Bans, LGBTQIA+ Stories and the Freedom to Read — Available on VOD/Digital October 6th
Everybody seems to be triggered these days. But how many would imagine that books, or perhaps simply the existence of certain books, could trigger such vitriol? This new documentary explores the nationwide battle over censorship, education, and who gets to decide what people are allowed to read, while focusing on the unlikely people bearing the brunt of the fight: librarians. Caught between following the rules and defending the freedom to read, librarians have somehow become symbols in a much larger cultural battle over LGBTQIA+ representation, educational access, and First Amendment rights. Documentary filmmaker Kim A. Snyder takes a particular look at Texas, where a list targeting hundreds of books dealing with race and LGBTQIA+ stories helped ignite a much broader fight over what belongs on library shelves... and who ultimately gets to make that decision.

🎥 “Gone with the Wind” Trailer: Producer David O. Selznick’s 1939 American Epic Returns to the Big Screen for Fathom Entertainment’s Big Screen Classics Event — In Theaters October 10th–14th
“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.”
That line remains one of the most iconic movie quotes in cinema history. The film has also had its fair share of controversies, along with some undeniable triumphs: notably Hattie McDaniel’s historic Academy Award-winning performance, which made her the first African American to win an Oscar. But whatever you think about this David O. Selznick-produced epic, it has become one of the most influential and debated films in American cinema history. With its sweeping storytelling, larger-than-life characters, and depiction of the Civil War and Reconstruction-era American South through a decidedly rose-colored lens, the film remains as culturally complicated as it is cinematically iconic. Now, the 1939 classic is returning to theaters this October as part of Fathom Entertainment’s Big Screen Classics event, giving audiences another chance to experience the epic on the big screen... and perhaps debate its significance all over again.
