🎥 “Other Mommy” New Trailer: Jessica Chastain Plays a Mother and Her Nightmarish Doppelgänger in Rob Savage’s Creepy New Horror Thriller — In Theaters October 9th
In a child’s eyes, a mother is everything. A mother is their whole world. A mother means protection and comfort. But what if “mother” meant something else? Something unfamiliar. Something frightening. Something more like a stranger.
Hmm. Sounds like the plot of a good horror story.
Count us among the many who got spooked by a pretty damn good jump scare in the previously released trailer for Jessica Chastain’s upcoming supernatural horror thriller, Other Mommy. You got us! But now we’re ready. And you should be too, as this latest trailer gives us an even better look at this creepy thriller, with Chastain playing not one but two mothers: one is the friendly and loving kind; the other, not so much.
Produced by Blumhouse and directed by Rob Savage, who gave us the much-buzzed-about horror films Host and Dashcam, Other Mommy finds the filmmaker once again playing around with the idea of something sinister invading a place that’s supposed to feel safe and secure.
In this instance, it’s the ordinary home of a young girl named Bela (Arabella Olivia Clark), whose mother (Chastain) suddenly has a very unsettling doppelgänger. She is literally the mirror image of the child’s mother and has somehow been invited inside their house, appearing seemingly out of nowhere and slowly working her way into Bela’s life.
This double can appear kind at first, but soon this strange figure begins to contort and twist herself, becoming a nightmarish version of the one person Bela is supposed to trust the most: her mother.
Also starring Jay Duplass as Bela’s father, along with Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed, and Indiana Jones legend Karen Allen, Other Mommy is based on Josh Malerman’s bestselling novel Incidents Around the House.
The film is slated to hit theaters on October 9th, making it perfect for the Halloween season. Just maybe don’t watch it with your mother. ‘Cuz you never know which version might be sitting next to you.

In Sacrifice, Evans’s Mike Tyler has been invited to attend a celebrity-filled charity gala on a Greek island, where he gets to earn some easy goodwill points by rubbing elbows with celebrities, billionaires, and other very important people supposedly trying to save the planet.
But the night takes a very strange turn when a group of radical eco-terrorists crashes the party, takes over the event, and holds many of its guests hostage.
Their plan? To save the planet from an extinction-level catastrophe. How? By serving up three celebrities as human sacrifices to an active volcano to prevent it from erupting.
Now Mike Tyler, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, will finally get the chance to prove what he’s really made of. Because saving the world sounds great when you’re reading it from a script. It’s a little different when you might be the one getting tossed into a volcano.
Anya Taylor-Joy joins in the fun as Joan, the young leader of the radical group who is absolutely convinced that a few human sacrifices are a small price to pay for saving the planet.
Meanwhile, Vincent Cassel, Salma Hayek Pinault, John Malkovich, Sam Richardson, and Charli XCX round out the cast as party guests who suddenly find themselves caught up in the madness.
French-Greek filmmaker and acclaimed music-video director Romain Gavras, who previously helmed the visually explosive one-shot riot thriller Athena, is teaming up with Netflix again for Sacrifice, which arrives on the streaming platform October 16th.

In How to Rob a Bank, Hoult leads a crew of social media-savvy thieves who have come up with the brilliant idea of broadcasting their bank robberies online. And while that might be great for building a following, it’s probably not the smartest move when you’re trying to avoid the FBI.
Their growing viral fame eventually puts veteran FBI agent John C. Reilly and hacker Zoë Kravitz on their trail, setting up a very modern game of cops and robbers.
With Pete Davidson, Anna Sawai, Rhenzy Feliz, and Christian Slater joining in on the fun, this looks less like a straight-up shoot-’em-up and more like a social media-powered game of cat and mouse. Only the cheese isn’t necessarily the money. These guys seem more interested in showing the world that maybe the real criminals are the ones wearing nice suits and quietly taking your money one bank fee at a time.

Wait, Zach Braff... an action star?
The Scrubs star has made us laugh for years. And while films he wrote and directed, like Garden State and A Good Person, gave him the chance to explore darker, more dramatic material, his latest role in Clean Hands has him stepping into very different territory: playing a hard-nosed narcotics officer fighting to clean the streets of heroin and other opioids flooding his city.
Here’s the thing: he ain’t playing the wisecracking cut-up who has a snarky comment every time the chief barks an order. No. Braff is playing Sergeant Kevin Simmers, a chest-pounding, hard-charging cop whose reputation was built on kicking down doors, making busts, and putting drug dealers behind bars.
But all that tough-guy bravado suddenly means very little when Simmers learns that his 19-year-old daughter Brooke (Esther McGregor, from Babygirl and We Were Liars) has found herself caught in the very same drug crisis he’s spent his career fighting.
And what starts out as a street-level depiction of the war on drugs soon becomes a sobering story about a law-and-order father desperately trying to save his heroin-addicted daughter from a life he knows full well will end in either prison or an early grave.
Written and directed by actor/filmmaker Jake Allyn (Ride), and inspired by the real-life story of Kevin and Brooke Simmers, the film also stars Abigail Spencer, Holt McCallany, Lucas Till, and E. Roger Mitchell.
Clean Hands is set to open in select theaters and arrive on VOD and Digital on October 16th.
🎥 “Animals” Trailer: Ben Affleck Is a Mayoral Candidate Facing a Politically Charged Kidnapping in This Twisty Political Thriller With Kerry Washington, Steven Yeun and Gillian Anderson — Arriving in Select Theaters and on Netflix October 9th
Politics, crime, and a moral dilemma at the center. Yup, that sounds about right for Ben Affleck, who returns to the director’s chair for another morally complicated thriller—this time involving a tense mayoral campaign and a frightening kidnapping that turns one family’s life upside down.
Here, Affleck wears three hats as director, producer, and star, playing Mark Kimball, an ambitious Los Angeles mayoral candidate whose life is shattered when his son is mysteriously kidnapped. Alongside his wife Abigail (Kerry Washington), Mark scrambles to come up with the ransom, but finding the money may mean exposing secrets that could not only tear apart their marriage, but also his political ambitions.
Steven Yeun, who recently co-starred with Affleck in the cop thriller The Rip, once again joins him here, this time playing his top political consultant, who sees an opportunity to shape the public narrative around the kidnapping to their advantage. They’re joined by Gillian Anderson as a slick corporate negotiator with some interesting ways of handling these kinds of situations, especially when the kidnapping turns into something none of them quite expected.
With Adriana Paz and Luis Gerardo Méndez rounding out the cast, Affleck directs his seventh feature, following 2023’s Air, while returning to the crime-thriller territory that gave us Gone Baby Gone and The Town. Here, Affleck gets some space to explore the morality of political ambition and what happens when doing the right thing comes into direct conflict with protecting your career, your family, and yourself.
In nature, animals usually tear each other apart for relatively good reasons. But in the human world? The reasons are a little more questionable.

Pop quiz! Who were the first climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest? Don’t know, not sure? Well, why read a history book when there’s a movie about that historic achievement coming our way? Yes, it’s a lazy way of learning history, but that doesn’t mean it ain’t effective. In Apple’s new film, Genden Phuntsok stars as legendary Himalayan climber Tenzing Norgay, who, alongside New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary (Tom Hiddleston), became the first climbers confirmed to reach the summit of Everest in 1953. Of course, getting there meant surviving brutal terrain, extreme weather, and all the dangers that come with climbing the world’s highest mountain. But Tenzing also had another battle on his hands: convincing the British expedition that he belonged on the team as an equal rather than simply serving the Western climbers. Also starring Willem Dafoe, Caitríona Balfe, and Thinley Lhamo, and directed by Sherpa filmmaker Jennifer Peedom, this epic adventure reminds us that sometimes history doesn’t give everyone the credit they deserve.

Now it’s LAIKA’s turn to take that idea and make it darker, stranger, and wonderfully weird. In other words, it’s simply LAIKA being LAIKA. When her baby brother is kidnapped and taken deep into the mysterious forest outside Portland, Prue (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) goes after him, crossing into Wildwood, a secret realm filled with talking animals, strange mystics, warring armies, and some very dangerous characters. And much like Alice and Dorothy before her, Prue quickly discovers that finding her way back home won’t be easy. Featuring a stacked voice cast that includes Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Angela Bassett, Awkwafina, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Richard E. Grant, and Tom Waits, the film is directed by Travis Knight, who returns to LAIKA stop-motion a decade after Kubo and the Two Strings.

If there’s any doubt that Guy Ritchie is one of the busiest filmmakers working today, consider this: he has yet another movie coming our way, marking his sixth feature in five years. And that doesn’t even include all the episodes he’s directed across three different TV shows during that same stretch. Seriously, does this guy ever take a day off? This time around, he’s working with two actors who seem almost tailor-made for Ritchie’s particular brand of stylish backstabbing and bad behavior: Benedict Cumberbatch and Rosamund Pike. The two star alongside Anthony Hopkins in this darkly comic thriller about the ridiculously wealthy Fairbank family, whose fight over money, power, and who gets what soon turns into a nasty little game of betrayal and murder. Because apparently nothing brings a wealthy family together quite like a massive inheritance.
🎥 “Primetime” New Trailer: Robert Pattinson Channels the Creepy Side of Chris Hansen in A24’s “To Catch a Predator” Drama — In Theaters September 25th
Have you ever thought Chris Hansen came across as a little creepier than he probably should have while hosting To Catch a Predator? After all, we’re talking about online predators getting caught red-handed. Yet Hansen had this strangely calm, almost theatrical way of confronting them. Sometimes, he could come across like he was performing a carefully staged act, as if the whole thing had become more of an entertaining spectacle than a serious investigation. Well, from the looks of things, Robert Pattinson might be leaning into that very persona in director Lance Oppenheim’s dramatization of the rise of To Catch a Predator. The buzz has been strong for this one. And with Pattinson already having one hell of a year, this could very well continue that streak. At the very least, it could further cement Pattinson’s reputation as an actor who isn’t afraid to take chances and tackle some seriously unconventional roles.

In this new Christmastime horror comedy, Ron Livingston and Rachel Bilson star as a couple who move into a quiet suburban neighborhood and soon find themselves invited to Christmas dinner by their new Christmas-obsessed neighbors, the Kringles (Thomas Lennon and Arden Myrin). But what starts as a friendly welcome to the neighborhood quickly turns into something far more ominous than yellow snow. It seems the Kringles have other plans, involving a blood-stained chainsaw, a little holiday indoctrination, and a whole lot of Christmas cheer nobody asked for. Throw a badass rogue Santa (Rob Riggle) into the mix, and this is one holiday gathering they won’t soon forget.

And this time, he’s throwing in a little Christmas cheer, a strip-club robbery, and one very desperate married couple. Ashley Benson stars as a small-town stripper who decides robbing the club where she works might be the answer to her family’s money problems. Of course, things don’t exactly go according to plan. Jake Lacy, Justin Long, Elle King, David Arquette, and Ron Perlman also join the fun as an assortment of oddball characters who get caught up in the chaos when a supposedly simple robbery turns into something much bigger... and a hell of a lot more dangerous.

Every family has their fair share of unresolved issues just stewing beneath the surface, waiting to boil back up. Playwright Eugene O’Neill had a knack for turning those deep family wounds into something actors could really sink their teeth into. In this film adaptation of perhaps his greatest play, Jessica Lange gets the rare opportunity to revisit (and once again chew the scenery in) a role she already mastered onstage. Nearly a decade after winning a Tony for playing Mary Tyrone, Lange returns as a woman whose ongoing battle with morphine addiction has left her family trapped in a seemingly endless cycle of resentment, blame, and regret. Lange is joined by a stellar cast, including Ed Harris, Ben Foster, and Colin Morgan, who round out the deeply dysfunctional Tyrone family. Directed by Jonathan Kent, who also directed Lange in the acclaimed 2016 Broadway revival, the film marks his feature-film directing debut.

This time, they’re bringing the ghosts of Button House to the big screen. When a group of meddling teens breaks into the abandoned estate, they get the surprise of a lifetime. After breaking out a Ouija board, one of the teenage boys is suddenly possessed by Julian (Simon Farnaby), the cranky old spirit who sees an opportunity to reunite with his family. The problem is, while Julian is running around in his body, the boy himself is stuck in the spirit world—and the longer he stays there, the harder it becomes for him to get back. That leaves the rest of the Button House ghosts, including Thomas (Mathew Baynton), Kitty (Lolly Adefope), the Captain (Ben Willbond), Pat (Jim Howick), Fanny (Martha Howe-Douglas), and Robin (Laurence Rickard), to do something they’re not exactly known for: work together and solve the problem themselves.

That’s pretty much the idea behind Netflix’s new animated comedy, which gives the classic fairy tale a fun little twist by telling it from the perspective of Lilith (Wong), one of Cinderella’s supposedly “evil” stepsisters. And Lilith is pretty damn tired of living in Cinderella’s shadow. So she decides to do something about it. She steals the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand, grabs her sister Margot (Stephanie Hsu), and crashes the Royal Ball. Because, hey, who’s to say Cinderella was all that innocent in the first place?

Acclaimed Russian filmmaker Andrey Zvyagintsev has made a career out of thought-provoking films, including the Oscar-nominated Leviathan and Loveless, that often criticize Russia’s political system through layered stories about ordinary people caught within it. He returns after a nearly decade-long break with a new film, using the onset of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as the backdrop for another deeply personal story about power, complicity, denial, and moral responsibility. Starring Steven Ogg, Josh Hamilton, and Ivory Aquino, and featuring one of the final onscreen performances from the late Michael Madsen, this hangout throwback revolves around the theater’s jaded employees, eccentric regulars, movie-obsessed oddballs, and increasingly desperate owner as they deal with busted dreams, bad popcorn, and the reality that their favorite little corner of the moviegoing world is about to disappear.

We’ve all had bad mornings. But waking up in a trashed hotel room with no memory of who you are and a dead body waiting for you in the bathtub? Yeah, that probably qualifies as a particularly crappy one. That’s how John Hannah starts his day in this new action thriller, playing a guy who wakes up with absolutely no clue who he is, how he got there, or why there’s a corpse in his bathroom. And before he can figure any of that out, the cops show up and things go from bad to considerably worse. Soon, he and a hotel maid (Radha Mitchell) are running for their lives as seemingly half the city comes after them. Oh, and one more thing: the entire film is shot in first person, putting us right in the middle of every punch, chase, and explosion. Directed by Chee Keong Cheung, this basically looks like a first-person shooter brought to life, with a little Crank and Hardcore Henry thrown in for good measure.
🎥 “Orfeo” Trailer: An Ancient Greek Love Story Becomes a Wonderfully Strange Handmade Journey Into the Underworld in Virgilio Villoresi’s Visually Wild Fantasy — Coming Soon
The story of Orpheus traveling into the Underworld to bring back the woman he loves has been around for a few thousand years. So how the hell do you make it feel new again? Apparently, you build the Underworld yourself. That’s what Italian filmmaker Virgilio Villoresi has done with his visually wild feature debut, inspired by Dino Buzzati’s 1969 graphic novel Poema a fumetti. Luca Vergoni stars as Orfeo, a solitary pianist who follows the mysterious Eura (Giulia Maenza) through a strange doorway and into a surreal afterlife filled with ghosts, demons, skeletons, and wonderfully bizarre creatures. Shot on 16mm and created with handcrafted sets, miniatures, stop-motion, and optical illusions, the whole thing looks less like a conventional fantasy movie and more like some wonderfully strange dream captured on film.

And they’re meaner and hungrier than ever. This time around, a dangerous pathogen sends a young scientist (Renaye Tamati) back to a rural New Zealand town and into an isolated area known as the Zone, where some very nasty creatures are waiting for her. So, yeah, apparently New Zealand still hasn’t figured out how to solve its killer sheep problem.

Heavy metal and dark fantasy have always made pretty good bedfellows. So Swedish metalcore band Imminence figured, why stop at making a few cool music videos when you can make an entire damn movie? And that’s exactly what they’ve done with this feature-length companion to the band’s new album, taking the mythology they’ve been building through their music videos and turning it into one big dark fantasy adventure. Directed by Pavel Trebukhin, the film follows an immortal knight cursed to wander through a fractured world of memory and myth, searching for the one thing he can’t seem to have: an ending. Hmm... sounds spooky. And very, very metal.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature has other plans. A violent storm rolls in, trapping everyone inside with nowhere to go. And as the booze keeps flowing and the night drags on, all those carefully maintained friendships start falling apart as old grudges and a whole lot of uncomfortable feelings finally come spilling out. So, yeah, maybe the best way to keep your friends is to never invite them over during a storm.

And honestly, it’s hard to believe it’s already been two decades since Hugo Weaving first slipped behind that now-iconic Guy Fawkes mask and Natalie Portman shaved her head as Evey Hammond. But here we are, 20 years later. And between you and me, the ideas and themes behind the film and comic seem to resonate even more today than they did back then. So the timing feels pretty damn appropriate for it to return to theaters for two nights only, giving fans another chance to experience V’s revolution on the big screen.

To be honest, when this Tony Scott-directed action-crime flick starring Bruce Willis as a burned-out P.I. who teams up with Damon Wayans’ washed-up football star was first released in theaters 35 years ago, it was considered a bona fide misfire. And for years, it remained one of the director’s less popular films. But something happened within the last 10 years or so. Stories about its difficult production became podcast fodder, and slowly but surely, the movie found a new audience. The problems involving Scott, Willis, and producer Joel Silver became part of its history, while Shane Black’s pitch-black humor and relentlessly cynical attitude suddenly felt more like features than liabilities. Now the 1991 action flick, with its pretty out-there plot involving conspiracy, murder, and football gambling, is finally getting the 4K treatment courtesy of Arrow Video. Just another reminder that some films can find an audience with enough time and enough people willing to give them another look.
