Paul Bettany is very talented, but making Mozart Asian is just more cultural appropriation. The original movie was near flawless, why is this being remade. It will be about as memorable as an attempt to remake Casablanca. Marines looks like a much more realistic portrayal than Boots.
To be fair, Will Sharpe is a British actor and filmmaker whose mother is Japanese, whereas Mozart was an Austrian composer. Does that mean Tom Hulce, an American actor, didn’t deliver an outstanding performance in Amadeus because he wasn’t from Austria?
I see this new Mozart miniseries as being more in the style of Bridgerton or perhaps closer to the Hamilton effect, where historical figures have become open to more varied interpretations. I’ll wait to see before judging whether Will Sharpe was right for the role. I agree, however, Bettany is always great.
