đș âCriminalâ Teaser: Charlie Hunnam, Luke Evans, Emilia Clarke, and Adria Arjona Lead Amazonâs Gritty Crime Thriller Based on Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillipsâ Acclaimed Comics â Part One: âCowardâ Premieres Wednesday, January 13th, Followed by Part Two: âLawlessâ on January 27th
Weâre not gonna lie. For a while there, it seemed like Charlie Hunnam might never top the success he had with Sons of Anarchy, let alone recover from the box-office bomb that was King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.
But after recent Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his work on Monster: The Ed Gein Story, it certainly seems like Hunnam is back in full force. And now heâs returning to the world of outlaw crime thrillers with his latest series, Criminal, an adaptation of the acclaimed graphic novels by comic book writer Ed Brubaker and artist Sean Phillips.
Hunnam is also part of a pretty impressive ensemble cast that includes Adria Arjona, Emilia Clarke, Luke Evans, Richard Jenkins, Logan Browning, John Hawkes, Patrick J. Adams, Kadeem Hardison and Garrett Hedlund, making this one series to definitely keep an eye on.
Brubaker himself is serving as co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer alongside crime novelist Jordan Harper (She Rides Shotgun), bringing his gritty crime comics to life in an eight-episode series split into two parts, subtitled Coward and Lawless.
Each part consists of four episodes, with directing duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Captain Marvel, Freaky Tales) helming Coward, while Dee Rees (Mudbound) takes over the directing reins for Lawless.
Set to be released just two weeks apart in January, Criminal: Coward will see Hunnam playing Leo Patterson, a cautious thief whoâs spent his life trying to stay one step ahead of trouble, only to find himself pulled into a dangerous heist involving his childhood friend and fellow criminal Ricky Lawless, played by Gus Halper (Unabomber, The Shards).
Meanwhile, Part Two, Lawless, will have Luke Evans taking center stage as Tracy Lawless, Rickyâs older brother, who returns from the Army only to find himself pulled right back into the criminal underworld he left behind when his brother gets caught up in a dangerous situation.
Both storylines will be interconnected, and knowing Ed Brubaker, a writer whoâs earned quite a reputation for his gritty noir storytelling, we can probably expect plenty of double-crosses, morally questionable characters, and more than a few twists by the end of it all.

đș âBad Monkey: Season 2â Trailer: Vince Vaughn Returns as the Wisecracking Florida Gumshoe, Facing Off Against John Malkovich and a Whole New Cast of Criminal Oddballs in Apple TVâs Offbeat Crime Comedy â Premiering Wednesday, December 2nd on Apple TV
What makes someone lucky? Is it someone whoâs never had to deal with any real hardship, or someone whoâs managed to survive every obstacle life has thrown at them?
Just something to think about as Vince Vaughn returns as Andrew Yancy, the perpetually unlucky (or extremely lucky, depending on how you look at it) former Miami detective turned health inspector turned laid-back gumshoe who constantly finds himself in a whole lot of trouble. And even more so in season two of Apple TVâs Bad Monkey, from Scrubs, Ted Lasso, and Shrinking creator Bill Lawrence.
Based on the bestselling novel by Carl Hiaasen, the series follows Vaughnâs Andrew Yancy, a lowly Florida health inspector who just canât seem to stay out of murder investigations, especially when thereâs a chance he might finally get his detective badge back.
This time around, Yancy finds himself caught up in another dangerous case, one that puts him in the crosshairs of a powerful and ruthless mob boss played by none other than John Malkovich.
And as Yancy tries to talk his way out of just about every bad situation he finds himself in, mostly failing miserably, he ends up being targeted by Malkovich and his goons, even finding himself held at gunpoint on a rooftop with little hope of getting out of it unscathed.
But somehow, Yancy always finds a way to smooth-talk his way off the ledge and live to see another day, proving it never hurts to have the gift of gab.
With returning cast members Natalie Martinez and John Ortiz, alongside newcomers John Malkovich, Yvonne Strahovski, Sofia Boutella, Charlotte Lawrence, Caleb Landry Jones, Dax Shepard, Mo Amer, and Keyla Monterroso Mejia, season two is shaping up to be another wild and crazy ride through Floridaâs wonderfully weird criminal underbelly when it premieres this December on Apple TV.

So cue the â90s grunge music, surprise murders, sinister mind games, and enough buried secrets to make you wonder if these girls ever really escaped the wilderness, or if they just brought the horrors of it back home with them.

đș âPercy Jackson and the Olympians: Season 3â Trailer: Walker Scobell Returns for Another Dangerous Quest Alongside Tamara Smart, Dafne Keen, and More â Premiering Friday, November 20th on Disney+
Disney has taken an interesting approach to promoting its small-screen adaptation of Rick Riordanâs Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Now heading into its third season, the fantasy adventure series has also found a wider audience thanks to Disneyâs deal with Netflix. And so far, that gamble appears to have paid off, with the first two seasons proving popular on Netflix and helping build an even bigger fan base. With excitement growing for the upcoming season, it looks like weâre in for the showâs most action-packed adventure yet.
Walker Scobell once again returns as Percy Jackson, the young demigod who finds himself on another dangerous quest, this time to rescue his friend Annabeth Chase (Leah Savaâ Jeffries) from the forces of Kronos. Percy, the son of Poseidon, will be joining forces with Thalia Grace (Tamara Smart), the daughter of Zeus, as they set out to rescue Annabeth and confront a dangerous prophecy that threatens the future of Olympus.
Also joining the cast this season are a few familiar faces, including Logan star Dafne Keen as Artemis, alongside Kate McKinnon as Aphrodite, Ming-Na Wen as Hera, and Andra Day as Athena. With showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz also returning, this third season will adapt The Titanâs Curse, the third book in Riordanâs popular fantasy series.
Set to premiere in just a couple of weeks, thereâs still time to catch up on the first two seasons, now streaming on Disney+ and Netflix.

đș âTrinityâ Trailer: Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Richard Madden Star in Netflixâs Nuclear Conspiracy Thriller Series from âBodyguardâ Creator Jed Mercurio, Also Starring Marcia Gay Harden and Bruce Greenwood â Premiering Tuesday, December 1st on Netflix
Cold War-era nuclear threats have inspired some pretty tightly wound thrillers over the years. We can all think of a few classics involving government conspiracies, nuclear missiles, and the possibility of Armageddon. But nowadays, does that kind of thriller still work? Or does it feel a little too old-fashioned?
Hereâs the thing. What makes these thrillers timeless is usually the acting. Give us a stellar ensemble playing out some incredibly tense scenarios, and youâve got yourself some good, old-fashioned entertainment.
And that seems to be the case with this new Netflix thriller, Trinity starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Richard Madden, alongside Kirk Acevedo, James Remar, Mark OâBrien, Anthony Edwards, Bruce Greenwood, and Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden.
Created by Jed Mercurio, the man behind Line of Duty and Bodyguard, this Netflix original series (out in Dec.) follows a Navy commander (Mbatha-Raw) whose close encounter with a nuclear catastrophe brings her into the inner circle of the U.S. secretary of defense (Madden). Soon, she uncovers a dangerous web of political conspiracies and classified secrets that could push the country toward nuclear disaster.
So expect plenty of clenched faces, people screaming âFire the missiles!â and folks in suits talking out of the sides of their mouths in secret rooms. Because when it comes to a political thriller like this, the most entertaining part is trying to figure out whoâs telling the truth, whoâs pulling the strings, and whoâs about to stab someone in the back... and, more importantly, who the hell is pushing us toward nuclear war? Perhaps someone who needs to be impeached ASAP.

đș âBlue Eye Samurai: Season 2â Teaser: Maya Erskine Returns as Mizu, Taking Her Bloody Quest for Revenge to 17th-Century London â Premiering Tuesday, January 19th on Netflix
So, youâre not a big anime fan? Well, maybe this Netflix series could be your gateway into the genre. And sure, some hardcore anime fans out there might argue that itâs a bastardized Hollywood version of the art form, but chill out and relax. It could be that starter show for someone looking to break into the wider world of anime.
After all, Blue Eye Samurai is coming back in January for a second season following its Emmy-winning debut in 2023. And yes, itâs been a few years, and fans have been patiently waiting for its return. Well, the wait is almost over.
For the uninitiated, the show features the voices of Maya Erskine as Mizu, a mixed-race swordmaster on a relentless quest for revenge, alongside Brenda Song as Akemi, Darren Barnet as Taigen, and Masi Oka as Ringo.
Mixing Japanese samurai traditions with the Western archetype of the lone hero, the Netflix series, created by Amber Noizumi and screenwriter Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049), follows Mizu on a bloody quest that takes her from the streets of feudal Japan to the unfamiliar world of 17th-century London. There, she seeks to track down the two remaining men who may hold the key to her parentage.
The first season was hailed by critics as one of the best animated series of 2023. So, naturally, Season 2 comes with plenty of anticipation and some pretty high expectations. Itâs set to premiere January 19th on Netflix.

đș âUnaccustomed Earthâ Trailer: Freida Pinto and Siddharth Star in Netflixâs Multigenerational Family Drama About Love and Regret, Based on Jhumpa Lahiriâs Bestselling Short-Story Collection â Premieres Thursday, December 17th on Netflix
Jhumpa Lahiriâs bestselling short-story collection, which tells a multigenerational story of love, family, and cultural identity, provides the basis for this new Netflix drama series from producers John Wells (ER, The Pitt) and Madhuri Shekar (3 Body Problem). Featuring a large ensemble cast of mostly South Asian actors, including Slumdog Millionaireâs Freida Pinto, Siddharth, Indraneil Sengupta, Never Have I Everâs Sarayu Blue, and Manifestâs Parveen Kaur along with The Hangoverâs Justin Bartha, the drama revolves around an Indian American family whose lives are turned upside down when a life-changing cancer diagnosis forces a wife and mother (Pinto) to confront the choices she made years ago, including giving up her first love (Siddharth) to satisfy her fatherâs wishes. Jumping between timelines, the story explores just how those choices ripple across generations, affecting marriages, relationships, and family loyalties, proving that when it comes to past regrets and roads not taken, the decisions we make (and the consequences we live with) are pretty much universal.
đș âThe Rockford Filesâ Promo Teaser: David Boreanaz Steps Into James Garnerâs Shoes as the Wisecracking Private Eye in NBCâs Reboot of the Classic â70s Detective Series â Premieres Saturday, January 2nd on NBC and Streaming the Next Day on Peacock
Anyone over 50 might remember watching, or at least know about, that classic â70s private-eye series The Rockford Files, starring James Garner. And anyone who grew up watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Bones probably already knows that David Boreanaz has a certain je ne sais quoi about him, not unlike what Garner brought to the original role. Which makes this a pretty perfect pairing, with Boreanaz stepping into the role of laid-back P.I. Jim Rockford in this upcoming reboot from producer and showrunner Mike Daniels, whose previous credits include Sons of Anarchy and Shades of Blue. And with Superbad and Adventureland helmer Greg Mottola directing the pilot episode, this new take looks to bring back that old-school charm and wisecracking detective work that made the original series such a TV classic.
đș âOther Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventureâ Promo Teaser: Netflix Takes Us Back to 1955 for a New Live-Action Prequel, with a New Town, New Characters, and a Fresh Batch of Supernatural Mysteries â Coming in 2028
Netflix ainât ready to let go of one of its biggest franchises. The streaming giant has released the first video announcement for a new spin-off series set within the Stranger Things universe. Yup, the Upside Down is making a comeback, only this time weâre heading back to the 1950s, long before the strange happenings in Hawkins, Indiana. This live-action prequel will take us to an entirely different town and state: Marion, Nevada, in 1955. Kate Trefry, the playwright and writer best known for her work on Stranger Things and its stage prequel, The First Shadow, will serve as showrunner, co-creating the series alongside the Duffer brothers. But will this new series have any connections to the characters from the original show? As of now, we donât know. What we do know is that the prequel will introduce a whole new cast of heroes and villains, along with a fresh batch of supernatural mysteries. So, donât put away those D&D dice just yet. You never know when they might come in handy.
đș âSecret Serviceâ Trailer: Gemma Arterton Uncovers a Russian Conspiracy in a British Political Spy Thriller Co-Starring Rafe Spall, Alex Kingston, and Roger Allam â Premieres Sunday, November 22nd on MGM+
Hereâs a wild hot take: British spy stories are better than American ones, and it might just come down to the accents. Thereâs something about a British accent that makes an already tense situation feel even more intense. Maybe itâs the way characters huddle in a corner, whispering in a way that somehow sounds both distinguished and deceitful. Itâs just a theory... something to think about. And perhaps one of the reasons British espionage thrillers seem to be thriving right now. Gemma Arterton (who, yes, has a British accent) can be seen huddling in corners, taking secret phone calls, and looking rather tense as she navigates a dangerous political conspiracy involving the Russians in this new espionage thriller series, which also boasts a stellar ensemble that includes Rafe Spall, Mark Stanley, Amaka Okafor, Alex Kingston, and Roger Allam. Created by Tom Bradby and Jemma Kennedy and based on Bradbyâs novel of the same name, this five-part political espionage thriller might just lend further support to our theory about why British spy stories have such a knack for making even the quietest conversations feel dangerous.

What the hell is looksmaxxing? Is that just some silly slang the kids are throwing around these days? Well, itâs actually a term used to describe a new lifestyle that has emerged in the age of social media. They used to say âsex sells,â but these days, itâs become much more than that. Itâs an entire lifestyle built around looks, physical appearance, and creating an almost fictional version of yourself, one that has become increasingly shocking and twisted. In this new three-episode docuseries from executive producer Adam McKay and director Stacey Lee, the world of looksmaxxing comes under the microscope as a group of influencers pushes the limits of physical transformation, with dangerous experiments, bitter rivalries, and a mysterious death raising troubling questions about just how far some are willing to go to look as physically perfect as possible.

Historically, Korea and Japan havenât exactly been on the best of terms. You know, that whole Japanese occupation of Korea that ended after World War II. So, yeah, thereâs some long-standing resentment there. We get it. But that history makes for an interesting setup for this new Korean series, which brings both cultures together in what looks to be a deliciously twisty crime thriller. Starring Son Sukku and Eita Nagayama, the series follows two detectives from South Korea and Japan who are forced to work together when a string of brutal murders leaves behind cryptic messages written in each otherâs languages. As they try to put aside their cultural differences, they begin to suspect that the murders are connected by something a lot more pernicious than either initially imagined. And catching the killer might require them to confront their own prejudices and learn to trust one another, at least long enough to bring the real culprit to justice.

đș âHigh Country: Season 2â Trailer: Leah Purcell Returns as Detective Andie Whitford to Investigate a Twisty Double Murder in This Australian Crime Thriller Series â Now Streaming on Hulu
One of the big reasons U.S. audiences should give foreign imports a chance is the opportunity to discover new talent from around the world. And thatâs certainly the case with this Australian crime thriller, where Leah Purcell finds herself at the center of a twisty murder mystery, playing Detective Andie Whitford, who is called in to investigate a double murder aboard a houseboat on drought-stricken Lake Eildon. Now, Purcell might not be a well-known name here in the States, but she certainly brings a certain gravitas to the role, leading what looks to be a tightly wound crime thriller where her character finds herself caught in an investigation that becomes increasingly personal the deeper she digs into the buried secrets of a small community. And who doesnât like a good murder mystery where the hero is constantly underestimated, yet only grows more determined to uncover the truth? Crikey!
