š„ āBeam Me Up, Suluā Trailer: Indie Documentary Chronicles The Decades-long Completion of A Long Forgotten āStar Trekā Fan Film Featuring George Takei ā On VOD/Digital This February
To most Star Trek fans, watching the shows and knowing the lore are enough to call yourself a Trekkie. But then there are those who take things a step further, turning their love of the franchise into something far more personal and creative.
Take Stan Woo. He was just an ā80s kid with a big dream of making his own Star Trek fan film. With a limited budget and barely any resources, he set out to make that dream a reality alongside his close friends. Against all odds, he got a production going, shooting bits of footage on weekends with buddies. Stan even managed to convince Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu himself, Star Trek icon George Takei, to appear in the project in his legendary role. The story followed an Enterprise side mission, with Sulu taking the lead.
What Stan didnāt know at the time was that the footage would eventually be lost, only to be rediscovered decades later. Now, heās more determined than ever to finally finish what he started, not as some grand masterpiece, but as proof that where thereās a will, thereās a way. And where thereās a Trekkie with a dream, anything is possible.
In the vein of something like Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made, this upcoming indie documentary Beam Me Up, Sulu tells the improbable, deeply heartfelt story of a Star Trek superfan who refuses to let a dream die. Back in 1985, a group of students trekked deep into the California forest to shoot a short fan film with George Takei reprising his iconic role as Sulu. Then the footage vanished. No final edit. No premiere. Just a mystery and a massive āwhat if.ā
But nearly forty years later, this documentary goes searching for that lost film... and finds something far bigger than missing reels. What unfolds is part cinematic detective story, part love letter to fandom, and part reflection on representation and perseverance. Stanās unfinished short film becomes a jumping-off point to explore why Star Trek still matters so deeply to generations of fans, especially those who rarely saw themselves reflected on screen.
Beam Me Up, Sulu is a reminder that fandom isnāt just about rose-colored nostalgia or silly canon debates. Sometimes, itās about community. And sometimes, itās about finishing a story simply because it deserves to be finished, no matter how amateur it may be.
Prepare to live long and prosper when Beam Me Up, Sulu arrives on VOD and digital platforms this February.
š„ āWastemanā International Trailer: David Jonsson Faces One Last Test Behind Bars in This Brutal British Prison Drama with Tom Blyth ā In UK Cinemas February 20th
You might not know David Jonssonās name quite yet, but youāve certainly taken note of his standout performances in films like Rye Lane (2023), Alien: Romulus (2024), and, most recently, The Long Walk (2025). Since popping onscreen as a stressed financial broker in the hit HBO series Industry, Jonsson has been making moves to further cement himself as one of the most exciting young talents working today. His streak of jumping from one wildly different role to the next continues as he disappears into the role of a young prisoner trapped inside one of Englandās most merciless penitentiaries, where keeping up the status of āgood behaviorā feels nearly impossible.
In Wasteman, Jonsson stars as Taylor, a young convict whoās done the time and can finally see parole within reach. Years behind bars have already cost him a relationship with his son, and release represents something fragile and rare: a second chance. But just as the door starts to crack open, a violent new cellmate named Dee arrives, played by The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes actor Tom Blyth with feral unpredictability, and pulls Taylor straight back into the prisonās ruthless internal wars.
What follows is an uncompromising portrait of a prison ecosystem where survival often demands moral compromise. Deeās appetite for chaos threatens to derail everything Taylor has worked toward, forcing him to choose between self-preservation and redemption. And the promise of freedom comes with one final, brutal test of endurance and mental fortitude.
Marking the feature film debut of director Cal McMau, the upcoming gritty British prison thriller aims to hit hard enough that audiences will likely leave feeling as battered and rattled as Jonssonās character, with tensions spiraling into a suffocating, claustrophobic mess. Sometimes, in a prison system like this, the hope of freedom can be snatched away without warning... or dangled unmercifully out of reach.
Wasteman is slated to open in UK cinemas on February 20th. As of yet, thereās no official U.S. release date.

š„ āAnimal Farm: A Cautionary Taleā Trailer: Andy Serkis Directs This Animated Fantasy Comedy Based on George Orwellās Classic Dystopian Fable, Featuring the Voices of Seth Rogen and Glenn Close ā Hitting Theaters May 1st
Some stories never stop feeling pressing, or more relevant. George Orwellās classic 1945 novel Animal Farm remains one of those works that never truly ages and, sadly, feels just as timely now as it did upon its original publication. Itās also that rare story that can be translated across a variety of mediums and still retain its razor-sharp allegory about power, propaganda, and how revolutions can rot from the inside out. After all, a farm full of cute animals might seem harmless at first. Until a closer look reveals how quickly noble ideals can be bent, broken, and consumed by the hunger for power.
Actor, filmmaker, and motion-performance innovator Andy Serkis directs this animated fantasy comedy inspired by Orwellās dystopian fable, where a group of farm animals rise up against their human masters to build their own society founded on equality, where all animals on the farm are now viewed and treated as equal partners... until they arenāt.
Comedian Seth Rogen voices Napoleon, the Saddleback boar who rises to dominate Animal Farm through manipulation and tyrannical rule. Stranger Thingsā Gaten Matarazzo plays Lucky, a young piglet torn between the farmās original ideals and the distorted reality unfolding around him. Successionās Kieran Culkin plays the oily menace Squealer, Napoleonās propaganda-spinning right hand.
Meanwhile, eight-time Oscar nominee Glenn Close lends her voice to Freida Pilkington, a billionaire human neighbor scheming to seize control of the animal farm through exploitation and backroom power plays. After all, an equal society is only as fair as those in power allow it to be. And if Freida can pay off the right people... or rather, the right pigs, the rules will likely bend in her favor.
Other voices in the cast include Laverne Cox as Snowball, a sow and Napoleonās rival; Woody Harrelson as Boxer, the horse; Jim Parsons as Carl the sheep; Kathleen Turner as Benjamin the donkey; along with Steve Buscemi as Mr. Whymper, Pilkingtonās loyal fixer; Iman Vellani as piglets Puff and Tammy; while Serkis himself pulls double duty as Mr. Jones, the original owner of the farm, and Randolph the Rooster.
Written by filmmaker Nicholas Stoller (The Five-Year Engagement, Neighbors, Storks), Animal Farm: A Cautionary Tale will be arriving in theaters May 1st.
š„ āSolo Mioā Trailer: Kevin James Gets Left at the Altar, Only to Find Love Through Italy In This New Feelgood Rom-Com with Nicole Grimaudo ā In Theaters February 6th
Okay, raise your hand if you loved the Will Smith rom-com Hitch. Yes, we can all admit it now, without any hesitation, the movie simply rocks. A big part of its success was comedian Kevin James playing a lovesick schlub who just needed a push in the right direction to get the girl of his dreams. Now fast-forward 20 years later, and Kevin James has a new movie where heās kind of playing that same type of lovesick schlub who just needs a little nudge to turn his luck around.
Solo Mio is a new romantic comedy that proves the best way to get over heartbreak is to change the scenery. Preferably to Italy. Here, James co-writes and stars as Matt Taylor, a groom whose dream Italian wedding collapses spectacularly when his fiancƩe leaves him at the altar in Rome. With flights booked, hotels paid for, and no real plan B, Matt makes a bold decision to go on the honeymoon anyway. Alone. What follows is a solo trek across Italy filled with incredible food, scenic detours, awkward encounters, and the slow realization that sometimes the wrong ending leads to the right beginning.
Co-written and directed by Chuck Kinnane and Dan Kinnane (aka the Kinnane Brothers), who previously worked with James on a series of viral shorts and the Netflix kids football comedy Home Team, Solo Mio leans into Italyās natural romantic setting while letting Jamesās Matt stumble, reflect, and rediscover himself amid cobblestone streets, sun-drenched coastlines, and moments of unexpected connection. Along the way, heās encouraged by a couple of fellow travelers to pursue love again, this time in the form of a local Italian woman, played by Nicole Grimaudo.
Sons of Anarchyās Kim Coates and The Chosenās Jonathan Roumie round out the ensemble, joined by Buffy the Vampire Slayerās Alyson Hannigan, Blindspotās Julee Cerda, and Preacherās Julie Ann Emery.
Equal parts travelogue, romantic comedy, and gentle self-discovery story, Solo Mio is a reminder that sometimes going solo is exactly what you need. The film lands in theaters February 6th.
