With the Fourth of July weekend mere days away, you can bet some folks will have a little more room in their schedule to watch a few extra things. So, as we look at what’s coming to our screens this week—both big and small—there’s plenty to choose from. Surprisingly, the bigger summer movies are still a week or two out. That’s not to say a certain dino sequel hitting theaters this Wednesday ain’t nothing.
But if you're planning to sit this weekend out, because of the holiday or the hot weather—well, we’re getting a trove of new movies on VOD and streaming.
New TV shows are a bit lighter this week, yet that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few worth checking out. Especially if the plan is to kick back with the family and enjoy some firework action.

Directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, the twisted minds and brothers behind the hit thriller Talk to Me, this new horror film explores the haunting idea of resurrection. Sally Hawkins stars as a foster mother, still haunted by the tragic death of her daughter, who may have resorted to dark magic to “bring her back.” When she brings home two foster children, a brother and sister (Billy Barratt and Sora Wong), Hawkins introduces them to her first foster child, Oliver (Jonah Wren Phillips). Scottish filmmaker John Maclean (Slow West) returns with this gritty East-meets-West revenge thriller set in 1790s Britain. Following the murder of her Samurai father by a ruthless gang of English thieves, young Japanese woman “Tornado” (played by Japanese model Kōki) embarks on a brutal quest for vengeance. Armed with her father’s Samurai sword and the lethal skills he taught her, she’s determined to take down the men responsible. With Tim Roth playing the despicable gang leader, this film channels the spirit of classic Japanese films like Lady Snowblood and Yojimbo, but with a nod to 1970s female revenge Spaghetti Westerns. So, when vengeance calls, sometimes the best way to answer is to let your sword do all the talking.
