📺 “The Hawk” Trailer: Will Ferrell’s Washed-Up Golf Legend Refuses to Retire Quietly in Netflix’s New Sports Comedy Series with Jimmy Tatro and Molly Shannon — Premieres Thursday, July 16th on Netflix
They say the problem with Will Ferrell is that all he ever plays are whiny man-child characters with bloated egos, always one tantrum away from total collapse.
And we say… yeah, so what’s wrong with that? Especially when Ferrell keeps turning these man-baby characters into comedy gold. So yes, Ferrell is back doing what he does best: screaming, crying, complaining, collapsing, and somehow turning emotional instability into a comic art form.
In the upcoming Netflix sports comedy series The Hawk, Ferrell stars as Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, a former No. 1 golfer whose glory days are fading faster than his swing. Once ranked at the top of the sport back in 2004, Lonnie is now stuck on the back nine of his career, clinging to one final dream: winning the last major championship he needs to complete golf’s Grand Slam.
Of course, the problem with a comeback is that everyone else has to believe in it too. Lonnie’s body seems ready to quit. His ex-wife Stacy, played by fellow SNL alum Molly Shannon, thinks retirement might be the healthier option. And his son Lance, played by Scream 7’s Jimmy Tatro, has become golf’s new golden boy, which is probably not great for a father whose ego already needs its own caddie.
From there, the fairway starts to feel less like a path to redemption and more like a public breakdown waiting to happen as Lonnie and his son Lance duke it out for bragging rights, family pride, and possibly the last functioning piece of Lonnie’s sanity.
Comedian Fortune Feimster joins the mix as Lonnie’s new caddie Sam, with Luke Wilson as rival golfer Golden Fisk, SNL alum Chris Parnell as PGA Tour board member Anton, Ballers’ Katelyn Tarver as Lance’s fiancée Natalie, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s David Hornsby as Stacy’s new partner Radford.
Ferrell serves as co-creator alongside Ferrell’s longtime collaborator and former SNL writer Harper Steele and Funny or Die co-founder Chris Henchy, with filmmakers David Gordon Green and Rian Johnson on board as executive producers.
The Hawk premieres Thursday, July 16th on Netflix. So prepare for Ferrell to once again turn a sport into a glass case of emotions... and then smash his way out with a golf club.
📺 “Furious” Trailer: Emmy Rossum Hunts an Elusive Female Serial Killer in Liz Meriwether’s New FBI Thriller Series with Lola Petticrew and Scoot McNairy — Debuting Monday, July 27th on Hulu/Disney+
There are detective thrillers built around one question: who is the killer?
And then there are detective thrillers less interested in the whodunit and more locked into the pursuit. That seems to be the case with Furious, a new Hulu thriller where Emmy Rossum, of Shameless fame, plays an FBI agent chasing a mysterious, dangerous woman tied to a string of murders.
Rossum stars as Alice Black, a hard-charging FBI agent with a dark past who is drawn into the hunt for Catherine, a calculating and elusive female serial killer played by Irish actress Lola Petticrew (of FX’s Say Nothing). As Alice digs into Catherine’s personal history, looking for clues that might reveal where she’ll strike next, the case becomes less like a standard investigation and more like a psychological chase between two women shaped by shared trauma and competing ideas of justice.
The suspense seems to come from one dangerous question: is Catherine always one move ahead, or is the FBI simply arriving too late every time another victim turns up? Which just goes to show you that catching a serial killer before they strike again might be harder than figuring out who they are once the bodies start piling up.
Loosely inspired by the 1987 Debra Winger and Theresa Russell-starring thriller Black Widow, the series appears to rework the original premise into something more morally complicated than a man-murdering madwoman tale. As the death toll rises, Alice’s pursuit of Catherine begins to blur into something more unsettling, especially as the boundaries between justice, obsession, victimhood, and vengeance start to shift from line to line.
Rounding out the cast are Scoot McNairy, Quincy Tyler Bernstine, and Jake Lacy, with Emmy-nominated TV producer-writer Liz Meriwether (New Girl, The Dropout, Dying for Sex) executive producing. Meanwhile, acclaimed TV helmer Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones, The Day of the Jackal) directs the first two episodes.
Furious is slated to premiere Monday, July 27th on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

📺 “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” Trailer: The Big Bang Theory’s Comic Book Store Owner Accidentally Breaks Reality in This Spinoff Series Starring Brian Posehn, Kevin Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, and John Ross Bowie — Debuting Thursday, July 23rd on HBO Max
Sitcoms have a certain formula: set up a situation for the characters to stumble through, hit the jokes on time, and wait for the laughs to come roaring in.
Now what happens if you not only overhaul the sitcom formula but take it into a completely different arena, where the laughs come less from punchlines and more from watching familiar characters stumble through the absurdity of an alternate universe?
That appears to be the setup behind Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, HBO Max’s new sci-fi comedy series that brings Kevin Sussman back as Stuart Bloom, the anxious comic book store owner from The Big Bang Theory.
This time, Stuart is no longer just hovering around the edges of the sitcom world. He’s pushed into the center of a reality-threatening disaster after breaking a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally triggering a multiverse Armageddon.
So, naturally, the fate of existence now rests with Stuart. And he’s not exactly the hero for the job, which may be the joke and the problem rolled into one.
Feeling a lot like a live-action version of Rick and Morty with a dash of Bill & Ted, the upcoming series follows Stuart as he tries to repair reality with help from his girlfriend Denise, played by Lauren Lapkus, geologist friend Bert, played by Brian Posehn, and quantum physicist Barry Kripke, played by John Ross Bowie.
Their mission? Travel through alternate realities populated by different versions of characters connected to The Big Bang Theory, turning the familiar sitcom universe into a broader comic sci-fi adventure that feels a lot less like a multi-camera sitcom and more like a single-cam Mad Max spoof.
Created by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady, the comedy seems built around the joke of taking characters designed for awkward conversations and nerdy arguments, then dropping them into a cosmic crisis they are in no way emotionally prepared to handle. The multiverse may be collapsing, but at least it picked the least qualified guy possible to fix it.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe debuts Thursday, July 23rd on HBO Max.

Meanwhile, Bobby is carving out his own adult life as a Dallas chef and taking a new step with his childhood crush, Connie.
