“Love, Death + Robots: Season 4” Trailer: Tim Miller’s Award-Winning Animated Anthology Returns with 10 New Mind-Blowing Shorts, Including a Puppet Music Video with Red Hot Chili Peppers Directed By David Fincher – Premiering May 15th on Netflix
Just when you thought there was no more room for animation to explore and push boundaries, here comes the latest season of Netflix’s award-winning animated anthology series Love, Death + Robots to blow the roof off this sucka!
Season 4 of the Emmy-winning series is just around the corner, and from the looks of things, it will once again blow our minds with awe-inspiring visuals while forcing us to rethink the possibilities of where animation can go.
Created by filmmaker, visual effects artist, and Blur Studio co-founder Tim Miller, Love, Death + Robots has become an annual showcase for some of the most daring animators and visual effects artists working today. This new season is no exception, with ten all-new standalone animated short films that push the limits of animated storytelling, featuring striking visuals and innovative methods of animation and visual effects.
Among the new animated shorts featured in this season (or rather in Volume 4) is Can’t Stop. It’s an animated, puppet music video featuring the Red Hot Chili Peppers in marionette form, directed by filmmaker David Fincher, who has been one of the executive producers on the series since its inception. The short is an animated recreation of RHCP’s 2003 performance at Slane Castle, but this time, Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith, and John Frusciante are reimagined as puppets on strings.
Animator and filmmaker Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda franchise), who serves as a supervising director for the series, has directed her own short called Spider Rose. It’s a cyberpunk tale set in the same universe as the previous episode from Volume 3, Swarm.
Acclaimed animator and illustrator Robert Valley (Agent Elvis), who has contributed a couple of shorts before, including the Emmy-winning short ICE, is back with another episode called 400 Boys. It’s a post-apocalyptic tale about warring gangs.
Tim Miller himself has participated in this new season, directing a rare live-action, effects-heavy short called Golgotha. It’s a darkly comedic sci-fi yarn featuring comedian Rhys Darby as a human mistaken by aliens to be their long-lost messiah.
And that’s not all: Miller also directs another short called The Screaming of the Tyrannosaur. It’s a fully animated episode where scientifically engineered dinosaurs fight in a brutal contest with genetically modified gladiators, with social media star MrBeast providing a voice. And the list goes on.
Viewers can watch all 10 shorts when Volume 4 of Love, Death + Robots starts streaming Thursday, May 15th, on Netflix.
“Sirens” Trailer: Meghann Fahy Fights to Save Her Sister (Milly Alcock) from a Cult in This Darkly Comic Netflix Series with Julianne Moore and Kevin Bacon – Premiering May 22nd on Netflix
Since her Emmy-nominated breakout performance in season 2 of The White Lotus, Meghann Fahy has been on a roll, recently appearing in a number of new projects, including the Netflix limited series The Perfect Couple and the recent Blumhouse horror thriller Drop. Fahy now reteams with Netflix next month, this time in the lead role, sharing the screen with Oscar-winner Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon, and soon-to-be Supergirl Milly Alcock.
Sirens is a new darkly comic series that explores how unresolved family trauma can lead to a path of cultish dependency. Fahy stars as Devon, an emotionally struggling woman who is searching for her younger sister, Simone (Alcock), only to be shocked when she discovers Simone has devoted herself to a cult-like women’s support group run by the enigmatic socialite-turned-self-help guru Michaela Kell (Moore). It seems Simone has adopted a completely new identity, one that is fully committed to Michaela’s cause.
Devon, furious that her sister hasn’t responded to the news that their father is suffering from early-onset dementia, shows up unannounced at Michaela’s Labor Day weekend gala at her beach estate, only to find Simone completely under Michaela’s spell. Over the course of one explosive weekend, Devon will try to convince Simone to leave the cult. But how do you convince someone to leave a place they've already adopted as their new home?
Bacon stars as Julianne Moore’s husband, while the cast also includes Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), alongside Josh Segarra, Felix Solis, Britne Oldford, Lauren Weedman, and Bill Camp.
Sirens is created by Molly Smith Metzler, who previously created, wrote, and produced the hit Netflix miniseries Maid, starring Margaret Qualley. This new Netflix series, however, is based on Metzler’s own acclaimed stage play Elemeno Pea.
Sirens is set to debut on Netflix Thursday, May 22nd.
“Alien: Earth” New Promo Teasers: Xenomorphs Are Coming! Earth Will Never Be the Same – Coming This Summer to FX and Hulu
This past week celebrated Earth Day, an annual reminder for all of us to appreciate the world we live in and support the preservation of nature. But it’s also the perfect time for FX to drop a couple of teasers for its upcoming Alien series, possibly to remind us that, thankfully, we don’t live on a planet inhabited by ferocious creatures like the Xenomorphs. But that doesn’t mean we won't see them invade Earth in this highly anticipated series, which will take the Alien franchise away from space and give it a more grounded setting.
Coming this summer, Alien: Earth hails from Emmy-winning Fargo creator Noah Hawley. The series stars rising actress Sydney Chandler (Pistol, Sugar), who leads a strong ensemble including Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, and Babou Ceesay, among others.
In the series, Chandler plays Wendy, a synthetic woman who joins a ragtag group of tactical soldiers as they come in contact with a mysterious space vessel that has crash-landed on Earth. They soon discover that the only thing to survive the crash are a new, lethal alien species with acid for blood. Now, they must destroy these aliens before they can escape and eradicate every human on Earth.
Alien: Earth will be set two years prior to the events of the 1979 classic. These newly released promos (watch them above) don’t reveal much about the plot but tease the idea that Xenomorphs are not only coming soon, but are coming to invade Earth, whether we like it or not.
The series doesn’t have an official air date yet, but it’s expected to arrive this summer on FX and Hulu.

“Octopus!” Trailer: Phoebe Waller-Bridge Narrates This Two-Part Documentary Special About the Giant Pacific Octopus with Tracy Morgan, That’s right, Tracy Morgan! – Streaming May 8th on Prime Video
Now here’s something you don’t see every day: a two-part documentary special about the Giant Pacific Octopus, featuring narration by Emmy-Award-winning actress and writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) and a special appearance by comedian Tracy Morgan, who apparently has been obsessed with these sea creatures for years. A fun little fact that should have surprised us more if we didn’t already know Morgan has a penchant for the quirky and unexpected. So, of course, he would show up in a documentary about the octopus.
Directed by Niharika Desai (Rainn Wilson and the Geography of Bliss, Gaycation), with Waller-Bridge also serving as one of the executive producers, this nature documentary special takes a look at the wild world of the octopus—from the scientists trying to save them, to the explorers trying to understand them, and the people who are madly obsessed with them. It’s a documentary that will try to connect all the tentacles within the mystery of this majestic sea creature.
Octopus! debuts Thursday, May 8th on Prime Video.
“Testament” Trailer: A New Biblical Drama Series Reimagines the Book of Acts in an Alternative Modern World – Streaming June 8th on Angel Studios
One of the biggest trends right now is turning a biblical story into a scripted drama with a more nuanced retelling for a contemporary audience. It seems to be the winning formula for some surprise hits, like The Chosen, which has done phenomenally both on the big screen and small.
Angel Studios, the team behind the 2023 sleeper hit Sound of Freedom and known for their slate of Christian-themed films, is offering a new biblical series that looks nothing like those old, cheap Sunday School specials. Meaning, it actually looks good and boasts high production value.
Featuring a large ensemble of mostly British actors, including Charles Beaven, Andrew Fitch, Nisha Aaliya, Alister Hawke, Tim Samuels, and Guy Robbins, Testament is a contemporary drama series based on the Book of Acts, transposing the setting to an alternative modern world from the ancient Roman Empire. The series follows a ragtag group of disciples as they must outwit ruthless authorities, survive violent persecution, and ignite a revolution that will change the world forever, following the resurrection of Jesus.
Testament is due to premiere this summer, starting June 8th, streaming exclusively on Angel Studios’ official website and app. The series is the latest original production Angel Studios will be offering on its newly minted streaming platform.
