Being stuck in a house for the weekend with your fuddy-duddy parents might just be the worst thing imaginable. But throw in a 400-year-old poltergeist into the mix, and suddenly your weekend is no longer just an annoyance—it’s your scariest nightmare coming true.
In the new horror send-up The Parenting, a seemingly perfect getaway takes a demonic turn when a malicious spirit shows up uninvited—turns out, a couple and their respective parents are the real intruders in this haunted house.
Starring Nik Dodani and Brandon Flynn as a loving couple trying to introduce their strong-willed parents (played by Brian Cox, Edie Falco, Lisa Kudrow, and Dean Norris) under one roof, things get awkward and scary fast when the family’s weekend is interrupted by an ancient demon who’s not in the mood for pleasantries. Even the dog isn’t safe from the ghost’s wrath!
Directed by Craig Johnson (The Skeleton Twins), this horror comedy aims to bring together the perfect mix of scares and laughs, with Parker Posey and Vivian Bang rounding out the cast. The Parenting is set to stream on MAX starting March 13.
“The Ballad of Wallis Island” New Trailer: Former Bandmates Reunite for a Private Island Concert in This Heartfelt British Dramedy Starring Tom Basden, Carey Mulligan, and Tim Key – In Theaters March 28th
Do you like second chances? Of course, you do! How about super awkward reunions? Well, maybe not so much. But if you’re looking for a film that has both—plus a story about people simply trying to be decent to each other—look no further than The Ballad of Wallis Island. This charming British dramedy is about music, memories, and one superfan’s oddly elaborate plan to reunite his favorite band.
As one of the standout critical darlings to come out of Sundance this year, The Ballad of Wallis Island just might be one of the most heartwarming films of the year.
Comedian Tom Basden stars as Herb McGwyer, a once-promising indie singer-songwriter who never quite made it to the big leagues. Down on his luck, he accepts an invitation to perform at a private concert on a remote island—only to find out the audience consists of exactly one person: Charles (played by Basden's comedy partner Tim Key), a well-meaning but eccentric superfan who just won the lottery and apparently decided this was the best way to spend his winnings.
But Charles has one more surprise in store—he’s invited Herb’s former bandmate and ex-girlfriend, Nell (played by the esteemed Carey Mulligan). What starts as an awkward reunion gradually transforms into something more: a chance for these two former musical partners to remember why they fell in love with performing together—even if it's just for one fan.
Co-written by Basden and Key, the film is directed by James Griffiths (Bad Sisters, Cuban Fury).
Early buzz suggests it’s a mix of Misery — if Annie Wilkes just wanted to help, and Once — if Glen Hansard had only one devoted fan. And that’s exactly the kind of combo we’re here for.
The Ballad of Wallis Island will hit theaters on March 28th.
“Control Freak” Trailer: Kelly Marie Tran Battles a Parasitic Demon in New Body Horror Thriller – Streaming on Hulu March 13th
Have you ever had an itch you just can’t seem to scratch? That unrelenting sensation that lingers, gnawing at you all day, every day? Now, imagine if that itch wasn’t just an annoyance—but a sign of something far more sinister… something downright terrifying.
Control Freak, a new body horror thriller streaming on Hulu March 13th, stars Kelly Marie Tran (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) as a professional motivational speaker who discovers that an itch on the back of her head is actually the work of a parasitic demon from her ancestral homeland. What starts as a mild irritation quickly spirals into a waking nightmare as she experiences horrifying visions and is forced to confront dark, supernatural forces threatening to consume her—body and soul.
Written and directed by Shal Ngo, Control Freak is inspired by Ngo’s own horror short Control, which was featured in Season 2 of Hulu’s horror anthology series Bite Size Halloween. Also starring Miles Robbins, Toan Le, and Kieu Chinh, this unsettling psychological horror promises to get under your skin—literally!
“Darkest Miriam” Trailer: Severance’s Britt Lower Stars as a Librarian Unraveling a Mysterious Puzzle in This Charlie Kaufman-Produced Indie Drama — In Select Theaters on March 28
Have you ever wondered about your local librarian? What kind of life they lead when they close up for the day? The mind wanders. It’s possible there’s a quirky, weird world that librarians inhabit, one that only a few lucky souls get to glimpse.
Darkest Miriam, a new quirky indie drama starring Britt Lower and executive produced by Charlie Kaufman, explores this idea—how sometimes the people we deem to have the simplest lives are actually living in their own magical worlds, filled with mysteries and odd characters.
Lower, known for her breakout role in the hit Apple series Severance, stars as Miriam Gordon, a downtown public librarian who embarks on an existential odyssey after discovering oddly threatening letters tucked inside a returned book.
Based on the novel The Incident Report by Martha Baillie, Darkest Miriam is written and directed by Naomi Jaye, who won the Best Director Award at last year’s Fantasia Fest. Set to open in select theaters on March 28th, the film aims to prove that life’s simplest jobs might just hide the most surprising stories.

Horror author R.L. Stine (Goosebumps), whose book series the Fear Street films are based on, recently announced the new project as Netflix dropped this announcement teaser.

“Eureka” Trailer: Viggo Mortensen Stars as a Cowboy in Lisandro Alonso’s Metaphysical Drama Spanning Time and Space – Now Streaming on MUBI in the U.S. and Canada.
Sometimes, non-linear narratives make for the most stunning films, tapping into a degree of magical realism that feels almost poetic. And it certainly helps to have an actor like Viggo Mortensen dressed in period cowboy garb for a black-and-white western throwback.
So, it’s hard to describe Argentine filmmaker Lisandro Alonso’s new metaphysical drama Eureka. It weaves through space and time, exploring how people are connected to their land, animals, and even different eras.
Spanning from 1870 to 2019, with settings ranging from the American West to the Amazon rainforest, the film features a black-and-white storyline about an old west cowboy (Mortensen) searching for his kidnapped daughter, taken by an outlaw. But the story doesn’t end there; it’s intricately tied to other timelines and characters, making for what seems like a truly hypnotic experience.
Eureka is now streaming exclusively on MUBI—though, sadly, only in the United States and Canada.

“Number One on the Call Sheet” Trailer: Two-Part Documentary Explores the Rise of Black Leading Men and Women in Hollywood – Premiering on Apple TV+ March 28th
For most African American actors, having their name at the top of a call sheet—the coveted position of being the main actor starring in a production—was a privilege that took years, if not decades, to achieve. Acclaimed filmmakers Reginald Hudlin (Marshall, House Party) and Shola Lynch (Free Angela and All Political Prisoners) team up with producers Jamie Foxx, Kevin Hart, Datari Turner, and Dan Cogan to profile several African American movie stars and hear their stories about their first time being "Number One on the Call Sheet."
This two-part documentary event, Number One on the Call Sheet, takes audiences on a journey with some of the most extraordinary leading Black men and women in Hollywood today, exploring the joys and challenges of being a movie star in an industry that has historically excluded them.
Hudlin directs the first segment, Black Leading Men in Hollywood, while Lynch directs the second, Black Leading Women in Hollywood.
Number One on the Call Sheet will premiere on March 28th, exclusively on Apple TV+.
