Time to catch up on this week's movie trailers! Here's a list of films coming to screens soon!
“Freakier Friday” Trailer: Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan Return for a Multi-Generational Body-Swap Sequel – In Theaters August 8th
Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back as mother and daughter Tess and Anna Coleman in Freakier Friday, the long-awaited sequel to the 2003 body-swap comedy. Now, if they thought swapping bodies was wild before, just wait until strange forces strike this family again in ways they never saw coming.
It’s been more than 20 years since we last saw Anna and Tess finally learn the value of their daughter-mother relationship. But Anna (Lohan) is now a mother with her own teenage daughter, while Tess (Curtis) is a grandmother. Now, if you think this sequel simply involves Anna supernaturally exchanging bodies with her teenage daughter Harper (Julia Butters, of The Fabelmans and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) ... well, you’d be half right.
It seems the body-swapping baton is getting passed down a generation…and sideways. Anna magically trades places with Harper, and Tess finds herself zapped into the body of Lily (Sophia Hammons, from the Hulu musical series Up Here), the teenage daughter of Anna’s new fiancé, Eric (played by Manny Jacinto, of The Acolyte). Awkward doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Lily and Harper aren’t necessarily the best of friends, nor overjoyed about becoming stepsisters... nor thrilled about inheriting this damn family curse, but they spot an opportunity to put their differences aside to torpedo their parents' wedding plans.
All they have to do is: reunite Anna with her former school crush, Jake (a returning Chad Michael Murray). Now that they are posing as Anna and Tess, they can make it happen. So, what could possibly go wrong? Other than making total fools of themselves—though, to be fair, who would ever know.
Directed by Nisha Ganatra (Late Night, The High Note), Freakier Friday cranks body-swap buffoonery to eleven, serving up a hefty dose of early-aughts nostalgia. Check out the official trailer now (above), and catch the family mayhem in theaters August 8th.
“Ebony & Ivory” Red Band Trailer: Cult Filmmaker Jim Hosking’s New Bizarre Comedy Explores the Worst Collaboration in Music History... And the Accidental Birth of the Greatest Song Ever – In Theaters and on VOD August 8th
Get ready for a music collaboration that hits all the wrong notes... in perhaps the most bizarre, yet hysterical way possible!
Feast your eyes on the red band trailer for Ebony & Ivory, the latest dark absurdist comedy from cult British filmmaker Jim Hosking, who gave us the equally batshit-crazy surrealist comedies The Greasy Strangler and An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn.
Set in a remote Scottish cottage, the film follows two totally-not-based-on-anyone-famous music legends—Paul (Sky Elobar) and Stevie (Gil Gex)—as they attempt to create a world-changing anthem. Or at least not kill each other trying.
What begins as a creative summit soon spirals into a whisky-soaked fever dream of synth solos, philosophical meltdowns, and some very aggressive interpretive dance. There’s clashing egos, clashing genres, and clashing wardrobes (tight corduroy and flashy sequins are not their friends). And somewhere in the madness, a song is born... whether the world wants it or not.
This is NOT the behind-the-music tale of the real “Ebony and Ivory” smash '80s song. In fact, the film is legally required to remind you that any resemblance to Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, or their actual collaboration is ... "purely coincidental and is in no way intentional."
So, forget everything you think you know. 'Cuz this is a story of how two washed-up rockers created the greatest song ever made... made in perfect harmony.
Ebony & Ivory is the oddest musical you'll never be able to unsee, nor unhear. The film will be arriving in theaters and on VOD August 8th.
“The Man in My Basement” Trailer: Willem Dafoe Gives Corey Hawkins an Offer He Can't Refuse in This Chilling Morality Tale Based on Walter Mosley’s Acclaimed Novel – Coming This Fall
What would you do if a strange man offered you money to rent out your basement? You’d probably say “no thanks” and shut the door. But what if he offered $1,000 a day for 65 days—with the one catch that you can’t tell anyone about the arrangement? Would you let him use your basement and do whatever he wants in exchange for a small fortune? Now the offer gets a lot more interesting... and a whole lot more unnerving.
Well, that’s the thought-provoking question being raised in this new thriller The Man in My Basement. It’s a morality test of how far you’d go for money. Some might stick to their guns and ask the man to leave and never come back. But then there are those who justify agreeing to such an arrangement.
In the film, Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton, In the Heights) stars as Charles Blakey, a man who finds himself conflicted by the offer. While down-on-his-luck, drowning in debt and disillusionment, Charles is looking for anything to lift him from this hole. Enter Willem Dafoe as Anniston Bennet. He's a cryptic, cash-loaded stranger with a proposition so bizarre, it sounds made for horror: rent him the basement, no questions asked. Spoiler alert: questions will be asked. And the answers? Not for the faint of heart.
Directed by Nadia Latif (making her feature directorial debut) and based on the provocative novel by acclaimed author Walter Mosley (Devil in a Blue Dress, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey), this psychological thriller burrows deep into the cracks of personal principles, moral ambiguity, and racial reckoning.
As Charles accepts the deal, what begins as a bizarre arrangement devolves into a claustrophobic mind game—one that forces both men to confront the monsters they’ve buried. Perhaps it’s always wise to keep in mind that when the devil knocks… maybe don’t answer.
Co-starring Anna Diop, Jonathan Ajayi, Gershwyn Eustache Jnr., Pamela Nomvete, and Tamara Lawrance, The Man in My Basement will be coming to theaters in the fall, followed by an exclusive streaming release on Hulu.
“Lurker” Trailer: Parasocial Obsession Turns Sinister in Alex Russell’s Slow-Burn Thriller Starring Théodore Pellerin and Archie Madekwe – In U.S. Theaters August 22nd, Canada August 29th via MUBI
Word to the wise: sometimes the people you least suspect are the ones you need to keep the closest eye on. Because you never know how someone's obsession might quietly spiral into something far more dangerous.
In the new slow-burning thriller Lurker, stan culture takes a dark, unsettling turn as a pop star’s fan goes from a friendly-faced wallflower to an ominous weirdo.
Marking the razor-sharp feature debut from The Bear and Dave writer Alex Russell, Théodore Pellerin (from the Netflix horror thriller There’s Someone Inside Your House) stars as Matthew, a retail worker with dreams bigger than his paycheck. When a chance encounter puts him in the orbit of rising British recording artist Oliver (Archie Madekwe, from Gran Turismo and Saltburn), Matthew’s starstruck admiration quickly gets him the opportunity of a lifetime.
Hired as Oliver’s new behind-the-scenes content guy, Matthew becomes a ghost with a video camera—snapping, filming, and silently feeding Oliver’s socials while quietly slipping into full-blown delusion. Is it friendship? Fame by proximity? Or is Matthew just a dangerously devoted fan whose parasocial relationship with a pop star is destined to lead him down a dangerous path?
It’s Single White Female meets Chuck & Buck meets One Hour Photo! Meaning, get ready for an increasingly unnerving look at how, in this new age of curated intimacy, some followers need to stay their distance.
Written and directed by Alex Russell and co-starring Havana Rose Liu, Daniel Zolghadri and Sunny Suljic, Lurker is set to open in U.S. theaters August 22nd and Canada August 29th, via a MUBI release.
“In Vitro” Trailer: New Aussie Biotech Horror Thriller Stars Talia Zucker and Ashley Zukerman as a Troubled Couple on a Remote Cattle Farm – In Theaters and on VOD June 27th
The new advancements in biotechnology might be the next frontier in science, giving way to breakthroughs in medicine, agriculture, and even how we understand life itself. In turn, it becomes a breeding ground for new science-fiction stories to explore. After all, the fear of science rewriting the rules of nature has always been the foundation for some of the genre’s most compelling cautionary tales.
And so, In Vitro, a new eerie Aussie biotech thriller, seems to be hitting the ground running as it blends paranoia with psychological tension—making viewers deeply uncomfortable about both livestock enhancements and how love can dangerously cloud judgment.
Set in the near future on a remote Australian cattle farm far from civilization, In Vitro follows Layla (Talia Zucker, from the Aussie horror Lake Mungo) and her husband Jack (Ashley Zukerman, from HBO’s Succession and Apple TV’s Silo) as they struggle to make ends meet, despite using new biotech tools to reproduce their livestock over and over again.
But as a climate disaster has wrecked their region, their marriage also begins fraying, hanging by only a thread. Layla’s loyalties are tested as she soon discovers that there is something far more troubling than their broken marriage. It seems Jack’s obsession with genetic engineering might just be going a little too over the line... to Frankenstein levels. Because there’s something definitely strange growing on the farm... and it’s not the cattle.
Directed by the filmmaking team of Will Howarth and Tom McKeith (Beast), who also co-wrote the script with star Talia Zucker, In Vitro appears to be a chilling deep dive into biotech gone mad, and how some once-strong marriages can mutate into something monstrous. The film will drop on Friday, June 27th, both in theaters and on VOD.
“The Occupant” Teaser Trailer: Ella Balinska Battles Frigid Elements (and Her Sanity) in This Twisty Survival Thriller with a Sci-Fi Edge – On VOD September 1st
This new survival thriller asks: can you truly trust your instincts even if the chances of survival are slim… and getting slimmer with every passing hour?
In The Occupant, British actress Ella Balinska (of the Charlie's Angels remake and the short-lived Netflix series Resident Evil) stars as Abby, a desperate geologist who takes a high-paying, high-risk mining job in the remote wilds of Northern Georgia to fund her sister’s experimental cancer treatment. But when her chopper goes down and her radio becomes her only lifeline, Abby finds herself in a survival scenario that’s equal parts icy terrain and psychological warfare.
Enter John (Rob Delaney), a mysterious voice on the other end of her walkie-talkie. He’s charming, he’s helpful... and he might not be real. As Abby’s oxygen thins and her doubts rise, the real question isn’t how she’ll get out, but who she’s talking to... and what he wants. Is she really talking to someone who can help her, someone who claims to “know exactly how she feels right now”? Scared, alone, and no idea how to get to safety.
Directed by first-time feature filmmaker Hugo Keijzer, The Occupant is an icy survival tale with twists sharp enough to cut through frozen rock, as there seems to be a sci-fi twist waiting in the wings.
Also starring Stuart Graham, Vanessa Ifediora, and Armin Karima, the film was just screened this past week at the SXSW London Film Festival, but will be arriving on VOD September 1st.
“Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale” Teaser Trailer: The Crawleys Return for One Last Elegant Farewell in Julian Fellowes’ Final Chapter – In Theaters September 12th
The tea is piping hot, the gowns are firmly pressed, and the butlers are back to ring their bells... maybe for the last time. So, raise your glasses for a farewell toast as Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, the final installment of the Julian Fellowes-created saga, is ready to close its curtain with some pomp, some pageantry, and just the right amount of polite courtesy.
Set in the 1930s, the Crawleys and their ever-faithful staff face the biggest challenge yet: the future! So, can Downton keep its chin up and its silver polished in a rapidly changing world? Perhaps the traditions of old might be ready to relinquish themselves into retirement as the modern world arrives before they know it.
Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, Jim Carter, and the whole aristocratic ensemble return for one last hurrah, joined by familiar faces (Paul Giamatti!) and intriguing newcomers like Joely Richardson and Alessandro Nivola. With series creator Julian Fellowes back penning the final chapter and director Simon Curtis (Downton Abbey: A New Era, Goodbye Christopher Robin) behind the camera, expect a bit of British wit, some weeping from the backrooms, and one or two eyebrow-raising plot turns just to keep things interesting.
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale arrives in theaters September 12 to bid a fond, fabulous farewell. So toot toot, pip pip, and cheerio!
“Trust” Trailer: Sophie Turner Fights For Her Life in This Tense Home-Invasion Thriller – In Select Theaters August 22nd

In the upcoming thriller Trust, Turner trades red carpets for red flags as she demonstrates that even Hollywood’s brightest stars can’t outrun their darkest moments.
