Time to catch up on this week's movie trailers! Here's a list of films coming to screens soon!
“Abraham’s Boys: A Dracula Story” Trailer: Vampire Hunter Van Helsing (Titus Welliver) Prepares his Sons to Slay Dracula in This New Gothic Horror Film Based on Joe Hill’s Story – In Theaters July 11th
If Ryan Coogler’s Sinners got you in the mood for more vampire tales set in the early 1900s—well, look no further than this new horror thriller that reimagines the mythos of Abraham Van Helsing. This time, old Van is a seasoned vampire hunter passing his deadly craft on to his two sons in the heart of Gothic America, circa 1915.
Based on the short story by acclaimed horror novelist and comic book writer Joe Hill (NOS4A2, Locke & Key, The Black Phone), Abraham’s Boys: A Dracula Story reimagines the fate of Abraham Van Helsing after the events of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel.
Eighteen years later, Van Helsing (played by the always great Titus Welliver) is now married with teenage sons, living in rural America. Greatly paranoid and traumatically scarred, Abraham has kept his boys, Max and Rudy (played by Brady Hepner and Judah Mackey), under strict, overprotective rule as he teaches them the skills of demon slaying.
But when Abraham’s wife suddenly falls gravely ill, it becomes a sign that an ancient evil is crossing oceans to unleash new terror upon their doorstep. Now Abraham needs his boys to step up, using the skills he taught them to defend their house from the dreaded Count Dracula, who may have been resurrected.
There’s a slight problem, however. Abraham’s sons have already started to believe their father might be increasingly delusional and madly unhinged. This could all be a figment of his demented mind… unless Dracula is real, and he may already be here.
Bosch star Titus Welliver—one of those actors we could watch reading a phonebook—stars alongside genre favorite Jocelin Donahue (The Last Stop in Yuma County, The House of the Devil) as his sick wife. Others in the cast include Aurora Perrineau and Corteon Moore.
Filmmaker Natasha Kermani, whose credits include the indie horror film Lucky (2020), the psychological thriller Imitation Girl (2017), and the segment “TKNOGD” in the horror anthology V/H/S/85, directs from an adapted screenplay she wrote based on Joe Hill’s story. Hill, known as Stephen King’s son, serves as executive producer. Meanwhile, King himself has called the film “a terrific fright-fest.”
Abraham’s Boys: A Dracula Story will hit theaters on July 11, followed by a streaming release on Shudder at a later date.
“The Ick” Trailer: Brandon Routh Stars as Hapless Science Teacher Battling Vine-Like Alien Organism in Joseph Kahn’s Supernatural Horror Comedy with Malina Weissman and Mena Suvari — In theaters July 27 through 29 via Fathom Ent.
“The Ick” is a slang term that these damn kids use today to express a feeling of great disgust. But in this new supernatural horror comedy from music video director-turned-filmmaker Joseph Kahn (Bodied, Detention), The Ick has a double meaning: it’s also a vine-like alien organism that has just invaded a small American town. And the only hope lies with a humble science teacher who’s been waiting for a chance to redeem himself since losing the big high school football game 25 years ago.
Brandon Routh, of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Superman Returns fame, stars in this pulpy throwback that harks back to the cult alien-invasion horror films of the late 1990s and early 2000s, like The Faculty, Slither and, for good measure, Ivan Reitman’s Evolution.
Here, Routh plays Hank, a hapless high school science teacher who has lived in the same town since his glory days as a once-celebrated high school quarterback twenty years ago. Still unable to shake the sting of losing the big game—and of losing his high school sweetheart (American Beauty’s Mena Suvari) that very same night—Hank now spends his days lecturing students about “the Ick,” a strange alien phenomenon that turns their town into a ticking time bomb.
After years in stasis, the Ick has awakened. With its vine-like tentacles stretching into every nook and cranny, the Ick threatens to turn the town upside down. Worse yet, the prom has been called off indefinitely. And before the town succumbs to this dangerous alien species, Hank stands alone against it, earning his chance to become the hero again—and maybe, just maybe, win the heart of his former high school girlfriend, whose daughter, Grace (Malina Weissman, from Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events), may well be his own.
Featuring a nostalgia-filled soundtrack with needle drops by American Rejects, Paramore and Blink-182, The Ick is directed by Joseph Kahn, best known for helming music videos for Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey and countless others. He co-wrote the film with Dan Koontz and Samuel Laskey.
Following its world premiere at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, where it received mostly positive reviews, The Ick will open in limited engagements via Fathom Entertainment, running Sunday, July 27th through Tuesday, July 29th.
“East of Wall” Trailer: Real-life Horse Wrangler Tabatha Zimiga Stars in Kate Beecroft’s Docu-Fiction Ranch Drama with Scoot McNairy and Jennifer Ehle — In theaters August 15th
For her first feature film, filmmaker Kate Beecroft spent over five years embedding herself in the life of Tabatha Zimiga, a fiercely independent horse wrangler from South Dakota who manages a horse ranch with her teenage children. The goal was to create a heartfelt story rooted in Tabatha’s hard-scrabbled life on the prairie, where she raises her children alone after the untimely death of her husband. The result is a mixture of documentary and fictional drama, what Beecroft calls “docu-fiction.”
East of Wall debuted earlier this year at Sundance, earning rave reviews. Beecroft may have delivered one of the strongest film debuts by a female filmmaker since Chloé Zhao’s Songs My Brothers Taught Me. The film carries the authenticity of Zhao’s early work—The Rider strongly comes to mind—with Tabatha Zimiga and her real-life daughter, Porshia Zimiga, at the center of this semi-fictional story of a financially struggling mother, newly widowed and determined to keep her horse ranch from closing while raising her children.
Actors Scoot McNairy and Jennifer Ehle (perhaps the only professional actors in the film) co-star as a local cowboy and a fellow rancher who find themselves in Tabatha’s orbit. As she rescues and resells horses, Tabatha’s ranch evolves into both a family farm and a refuge for wayward neighborhood teens.
Based on Tabatha’s real-life ranch life, documented on her social media accounts, East of Wall stands as a testament to the idea that even the smallest gestures can have the biggest impact. And it seems cowgirls aren’t always measured by the size of their hat; sometimes it’s the size of their heart.
East of Wall is set to open in theaters on August 15th.
“Tin Soldier” Trailer: Jamie Foxx Leads an Extremist Cult, Scott Eastwood Seeks Vengeance, and Robert De Niro Pulls the Strings in Brad Furman’s New Action Thriller — Coming Soon
Well, we didn’t see this on our 2025 bingo card: Jamie Foxx as an afro-puffed revolutionary cult leader, Scott Eastwood as the man sent to infiltrate his compound to take him down, and Robert De Niro as the government official pulling the strings.
In what looks like a John Carpenter–inspired action thriller—only this time directed and co-written by The Lincoln Lawyer director Brad Furman—Tin Soldier centers on a secret government operation to assassinate a rising revolutionary cult leader (Foxx) who has amassed a large army of mercenaries.
Fast & Furious star Scott Eastwood leads as Nash Cavanaugh, an ex–special ops soldier and former cult member now bent on avenging his wife’s death—she’d tried to escape the cult before her tragic end. Blaming the cult’s “Dear Leader” (Foxx) for his grief, Cavanaugh is recruited by a veteran government official (Robert De Niro), who equips him with the resources for a secret solo mission: infiltrate the fortified compound and put a bullet in the head of the extremist leader. Once the head is cut off, the rest will follow.
Featuring a strong supporting cast that includes John Leguizamo, Shamier Anderson, Rita Ora, and Saïd Taghmaoui, Tin Soldier was recently picked up by Samuel Goldwyn Films for U.S. distribution. However, the film will be released in July in the U.K. on Prime Video. No word yet on the official U.S. release date.
“Oh Hi!” Trailer: Molly Gordon Ties Up Logan Lerman in Sophie Brooks’ Darkly Quirky Rom-Com — In Theaters July 25th
It was supposed to be the perfect romantic weekend: two partners spending quality time together. But sometimes things can get out of hand. One could even find themselves tied to the bed in a desperate bid to prove they’re meant to be. After all, sometimes love needs a little… restraint.
In this new darkly quirky romantic comedy Oh Hi!, Molly Gordon (from The Bear and Theater Camp) stars as Iris, a young hopeless romantic who meets and falls for Isaac, played by Logan Lerman (Bullet Train, Fury, Hunters). When they decide to enjoy a weekend love tryst at a cottage rental, Iris begins to think she has just met the perfect guy.
The only problem: Isaac isn’t looking to start a serious relationship right now, leading to an awkward and increasingly desperate reaction from Iris. She plans to show him that they would make the perfect couple, and for starters, she’ll tie him up and gag him in bed just long enough to convince him.
And just as things couldn’t get any more awkward and cringey, Iris’s friends (Geraldine Viswanathan and John Reynolds) show up to add even more confusion and hijinks to the situation. ‘Cause falling in love is hard… but convincing your dream partner you’re the one? Well, that might be even harder.
Written and directed by Sophie Brooks (The Boy Downstairs) based on a story by Brooks and Gordon, Oh Hi! is coming to theaters on July 25th.
“Went Up the Hill” Trailer: Dacre Montgomery Hears His Late Mother Speak Through Vicky Krieps in Haunting, Introspective Ghost Story – In Select Theaters August 15th
In Stranger Things, Dacre Montgomery faced the utter terror of the Upside Down, but in his latest role, the dread is much quieter—perhaps lurking just underneath the calmest moments before presenting itself.
In this new atmospheric, slow-burning ghost thriller Went Up the Hill, Montgomery stars as Jack, a young man grappling with the death of a mother he didn’t know much about, while Phantom Thread star Vicky Krieps takes on the role of Jill, his mother’s widow, who claims to still speak to her. In turn, Jack’s dearly departed birth mother can sometimes communicate through Jill’s body, delivering messages from beyond.
And you thought your mother’s issues were bad—well, we bet you’ve never had her whisper through someone else’s voice.
When Jack returns to New Zealand for his mother’s funeral, he hopes for closure. Instead, he meets Jill and uncovers a bond neither expected. When his mother’s spirit returns, she doesn’t just haunt them from afar—she speaks through Jill to finish conversations she never had and to reveal truths that need to be said for them all to move forward.
This bittersweet, cerebral ghost story blurs the line between tense mourning and quiet madness, offering a chillingly intimate look at grief, trauma, and the unspoken rage of abandonment. Perhaps a supernatural movie for those who prefer reflective, introspective frights rather than typical jump scares and gore.
Written and directed by Samuel Van Grinsven (Sequin in a Blue Room), Went Up the Hill hits select theaters August 15th.
“Eye for an Eye” Trailer: Whitney Peak Battles an Eye-Snatching Ghost Monster in Colin Tilley’s Supernatural Horror Thriller – In Theaters June 20th
It’s natural to shield one’s eyes when you come across something scary, as if closing them will somehow make the monster go away. But what if shielding your eyes doesn’t help, and instead your eyes become the very thing the monster feeds on? Now try to sleep with that notion in mind.
Eye for an Eye is an upcoming supernatural screamfest from Colin Tilley, an award-winning music-video helmer known for such videos as “Alright” by Kendrick Lamar, “Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj, “Mask Off” by Future, and “Circles” by Post Malone, among countless others.
Based on the adult picture book Mr Sandman by Elisa Victoria, the film stars Whitney Peak (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Hocus Pocus 2) as Anna, a young woman stalked by the chilling Mr. Sandman—a ghostly avenger with the soul of a tormented child and a very specific calling card: punishing bullies by haunting their dreams… and ripping out their eyeballs when they wake. Ouch!
Also starring S. Epatha Merkerson (Law & Order, Pee-wee’s Playhouse) and Golda Rosheuvel (Bridgerton), the supernatural horror thriller asks the question: in a world where sleep isn’t safe, what else can you do to stay alive other than keep your eyes wide open? Because the second you close them, you’re done.
Eye for an Eye hits theaters June 20th.
