"Thunderbolts*" New Promos: Marvel’s Misfit Anti-Hero Team Faces a Mysterious Invincible Villain in New MCU Movie
Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, and The Winter Soldier lead the charge against a shadowy supervillain in this action-packed MCU entry, filled with twists, intrigue, and redemption.
Since the announcement of the Thunderbolts* movie, or with any superhero movie for that matter, fans have quickly speculated on who will be involved in the story, including which villains from the comic books will finally make their appearance in this cinematic universe. With the lineup of characters already established in the MCU, fans have been pretty perceptive with their guesses on who might show up to take on the Thunderbolts.
Actor Lewis Pullman, who appeared in the first couple of trailers for the upcoming Thunderbolts* as a still-mysterious character going by the name of “Bob,” has inconspicuously gone missing in recent promos. Now, it doesn’t take a genius to suspect who Bob is, or at least what his part in the film might be. Could he be a key player whose true role is being kept under wraps for a surprise twist?
Well, it certainly seems that Marvel wants to continue to play coy concerning the film’s main villain, as they have released a couple of new promo spots with the supposed villain completely darkened out into a black silhouette as they wreak havoc on the city.
Is this Bob (or as some have suggested, the comic book character Sentry)? Or is this whole thing a red herring for a twist we haven’t suspected yet?
Given Marvel's history of playing with character reveals, it’s entirely possible that Bob is being used as a misdirect to set up something far more complex. Or perhaps, it could be an introduction to a character that will play a bigger part in the MCU, especially considering Lewis Pullman’s name was recently revealed to be a part of the cast for the upcoming crossover event Avengers: Doomsday. Fans are already buzzing with theories on what this could mean for the future of the MCU.
Here’s what we do know: the Thunderbolts team consists of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko?). Note: Taskmaster has also inconspicuously gone missing in recent promos, so things aren’t looking great for her future.
So, it’s a makeshift team of misfits, outlaws, and anti-heroes, all looking for a chance at redemption. Could saving the world from this mysterious supervillain be that chance? Well, fans are eager to see how these unlikely heroes will come together and navigate their own personal demons and troubled past while trying to stop a threat bigger than themselves.
With Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) leading the charge and shady CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) pulling the strings, it’s bound to be an unpredictable mix of action, intrigue, and moral ambiguity.
Director Jake Schreier (Paper Towns, Robot & Frank) reunites with The Beef creator Lee Sung Jin, who co-writes the screenplay alongside Black Widow’s Eric Pearson and The Bear’s Joanna Calo.
Thunderbolts* just might finally give the MCU the boost they desperately need right now. The film arrives in theaters on May 2nd. Tickets are on sale now.
