"The Home" Trailer: Pete Davidson Gets Caught in a Chilling Nursing Home Conspiracy In This New Horror Thriller From the Creator of The Purge
In this psychological thriller from James DeMonaco, Pete Davidson steps into darker territory, starring as a reformed delinquent who uncovers a disturbing conspiracy at a nursing home.
Since breaking out on SNL a few years ago, comedian Pete Davidson has become one of those celebrity figures who elicits strong opinions. Some find him hilarious, while others can’t stand him and genuinely don’t get why he continues to stay in the public eye. Davidson just has one of those things about him that either draws people in or pushes them away.
But if we’re going to be honest: he hasn’t been our favorite lately, mostly because he keeps popping up in that Verizon commercial where he says, “I’m scared” in the most idiotic way possible, which has his haters fuming. Now, we don’t hate the guy, but yeah, he’s pretty freakin’ obnoxious in that ad. But hey, that’s his shtick. He knows his lane, and he’s driving it like a guy who left his blinkers on for five years straight.
Davidson has been widely open about his former drug use and struggles with mental health. He’s been candid about his journey to sobriety, which he recently revealed included undergoing multiple costly, painful, and time-consuming tattoo removal sessions. Part of that decision came from a shift in how he sees his future, a desire to move forward with a clearer slate. It would also mean he wouldn’t have to spend hours in the makeup chair to cover up his tattoos for film or TV roles. As an added bonus, he could also take on new challenges and play parts he normally wouldn’t be considered for, stepping outside the typecast roles that have defined much of his early comedy career.
Well, it seems Davidson is doing exactly that in his latest film. He’s stepping away from comedy a little bit to star in this new horror thriller from James DeMonaco, the creator of The Purge franchise. Now, if you count yourself as someone who can’t stand Pete Davidson, well, know this: it seems he gets tortured in this... by old people!
In the upcoming psychological thriller The Home, Davidson plays a young delinquent sentenced to court-ordered community service at a local nursing home, where he’s tasked with caring for elderly residents. There’s just one rule: he’s not allowed to access the mysterious fourth floor. It’s a “special care” unit reserved for the most heavily supervised patients.
But curiosity gets the better of him, and what he uncovers is far more disturbing than he ever expected. As he digs deeper, Davidson’s character finds himself entangled in a chilling conspiracy—one that not only threatens his court-appointed duty but puts his life in grave danger.
The Home is directed and co-written by Purge mastermind James DeMonaco, who also happens to be a Staten Island native—just like Pete Davidson, who famously set his semi-biographical comedy The King of Staten Island there. DeMonaco, who continues to serve as a writer and producer on The Purge franchise, previously stepped away from its directorial reins to helm the 2021 semi-biographical, 1980s-set coming-of-age comedy This Is the Night. That film followed a group of Staten Island teens trying to enjoy a night out at the movies during a screening of the now-iconic boxing drama Rocky.
The Home marks DeMonaco’s second feature as director since stepping away from The Purge series, with his last installment behind the camera being The Purge: Election Year.
In addition to Davidson, the cast also includes Bruce Altman, John Glover, Ethan Phillips, and Marilee Talkington.
The Home is slated to hit theaters on July 25th.
