Ryan Destiny Portrays Olympic Boxer Claressa Shields in Trailer for "The Fire Inside" Directed by 'Black Panther' Cinematographer Rachel Morrison & Written-Produced by Barry Jenkins
The official trailer for "The Fire Inside" has been released, offering a first look at the upcoming sports drama based on the inspiring true story of Olympic and professional boxer Claressa 'T-Rex' Shields.
Written and produced by Barry Jenkins (Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk) and directed by Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rachel Morrison (Black Panther, Mudbound), making her feature directorial debut, the film stars Ryan Destiny (Star, Grown-ish) as a young Claressa Shields. The story follows Claressa as she trains tirelessly in her working-class Flint, Michigan, neighborhood, with the goal of becoming the first woman in U.S. history to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing.
Oscar-nominated actor Brian Tyree Henry (Causeway, Atlanta) plays Claressa's coach and mentor, Jason Crutchfield, with Judy Greer, Olunike Adeliyi, and De'Adre Aziza rounding out the supporting cast.
"The Fire Inside" is set for a theatrical release on December 25th, Christmas Day, positioning it as a potential awards season contender. Watch the trailer above.
