"The Electric State" Final Trailer: Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt Embark on a Dystopian Road Trip in the Russo Brothers’ Retro-Futuristic Sci-Fi Adventure
In a retro-futuristic world where robots have been outlawed, a teenage girl and her unlikely allies journey across a ruined America to uncover the truth in Netflix’s visually stunning action epic.
Brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, the filmmakers behind some of our favorite MCU blockbusters (Avengers: Endgame, Infinity War, Captain America: Civil War), have teamed up with Netflix once again, this time for a visually ambitious retro-futuristic action adventure set in an alternate 1990s. In this world, a failed robot uprising led to robots being banned, but technology has advanced tenfold—yet music still revolves around Oasis and Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. (Go figure!)
In other words, welcome to The Electric State. And here's the final trailer.
This sci-fi robot spectacle stars Netflix's own homegrown starlet Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things, Enola Holmes, Damsel) with Chris Pratt leading a supporting cast that includes Stanley Tucci, Giancarlo Esposito, Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, and a host of big names lending their voices to various robots, including Anthony Mackie, Woody Harrelson, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Hank Azaria, Colman Domingo, and Alan Tudyk.
In the film, Millie Bobby Brown takes on the role of Michelle, an orphaned teenager who embarks on a cross-country adventure to find her long-lost brother after coming into contact with an old robotic cartoon mascot, a "Cosmo Bot," who holds a message that her brother is still alive. Michelle sets off to The Exclusion Zone, a walled-off forbidden region in the southwest desert where old, discarded robots live on their own.
Along the way, Michelle and her little Cosmo Bot companion meet Keats (Chris Pratt), a former soldier who fought against robots during their failed uprising but is now getting by as a black-market smuggler, often traveling back and forth to the Exclusion Zone for supplies. After a little convincing, Keats and his robot sidekick Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie) agree to help Michelle with her search for her brother. Soon, they stumble upon a broader conspiracy, uncovering nefarious truths about the government’s intentions to keep citizens uninformed about the robot uprising.
Written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the same writing duo behind the Russo brothers' MCU hits (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame), as well as the Russo's spy-action misfire The Gray Man (also a Netflix original), The Electric State is inspired by the illustrated concept art book of the same name by acclaimed Swedish conceptual artist Simon Stalenhag. His illustrations blend modern and retro settings, showcasing striking imagery of tech robots and futuristic machinery.
The Electric State is scheduled to debut on Netflix next week, March 14th.
