"The Bear: Season 4" Trailer: Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach Return as the Pressure Mounts in FX’s Award-Winning Culinary Drama
Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) and his kitchen crew (Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ayo Edebiri, Liza Colón-Zaya) must maintain their momentum while facing new challenges in the high-stakes world of fine dining.
“Yes, chef!”
That phrase has become a part of our lexicon due to the popularity of The Bear, the Emmy award-winning FX series about a genius chef who returns to Chicago to take over his late brother's failing sandwich shop, transforming it into one of the best fine-dining restaurants in the city. On paper, the series sounds like some kind of silly reality cooking show you'd stumble upon on the weekend airing on the Food Network, maybe right after binging all 51 seasons of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. However, who would have known that when the show first aired back in 2022, it would introduce us to some of the most emotionally complex characters seen on television in recent years? It also ended up helping launch the careers of actors Jeremy Allen White (aka “Carmy”), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (aka “Cousin Richie”), Ayo Edebiri (aka “Sydney”), and Liza Colón-Zayas (aka “Tina”) into the stratosphere.
During a time when the monoculture was starting to fade and everybody seemed to be huddled in different corners watching different shows, B miraculously became a cultural touchstone, capturing the attention of both casual viewers and industry insiders alike. While some viewers might be captivated by the show’s erratic style, the pressure-cooker atmosphere, and the fast-paced, high-stakes kitchen drama, others, like ourselves, loved how it opened our eyes not only to the art of cooking and fine dining but also to the importance of sharing knowledge and skills with others. It highlights how building a community or a makeshift family through tight bonds is the only way to survive the bad times, even if the bad times stem from inner struggles and overwhelming personal anxiety.
Now, the question of whether The Bear is a comedy is a valid one, especially after Season 3, which felt like a prolonged meditation on Carmy’s pent-up agitation concerning his status as a four-star chef and the overwhelming pressure of trying to live up to those expectations. It was definitely a dour season for sure, but it also felt like one long prologue, leading up to this new fourth season, for which a trailer has dropped. It offers a look at how Carmy and his kitchen crew of misfits must maintain a certain level of consistency after launching one of the hottest restaurants in downtown Chicago.
Now, if you thought the pressure was on before, well, get a load of this new season, where everyone will have to step up their game. It’s all for the greater good—keeping the restaurant from losing money and shutting its doors forever. Which, apparently, in this cutthroat world of fine dining, restaurants, no matter how successful, aren't impervious to failure. And it could all come crashing down faster than you can say “Cousin! What's the chef's special?”
Created by Christopher Storer, who co-showruns the series with writer-producer Joanna Calo (who also just co-wrote the screenplay of MCU’s Thunderbolts*), Storer is also known for directing a majority of the episodes along with Calo, who has also directed several episodes before.
Season 4 of The Bear will also see the return of Jamie Lee Curtis, reprising her Emmy-winning guest role as Donna Berzatto, the emotionally unstable matriarch of Carmy's family.
Other cast members include Abby Elliott, Lionel Boyce, Matty Matheson, Chris Witaske, Oliver Platt, and likely Jon Bernthal for another flashback episode (though not confirmed) as Mikey, Carmy's beloved older brother who died before the events of the first season.
The Bear: Season 4 is slated to premiere Wednesday, June 25th on FX/Hulu and Disney+. All new episodes will be available to stream on that date.
