"Summer of 69" Trailer: SNL's Chloe Fineman Becomes an Unlikely 'Sex Coach' in Jillian Bell’s Outrageously Hilarious Teen Sex Comedy
In this outrageous coming-of-age comedy, a socially awkward teen hires an exotic dancer to teach her the "ins and outs" of impressing her crush.
Back in our day, if a teen had an awkward question about sex, we had to stay up and listen to a radio show called Love Lines and hope a caller asked the question we always wanted the answer to. But if we had known that the quicker method was to get an exotic stripper to spill all the details, well, it would have saved us a lot of late-night listening... that’s for damn sure.
Comic actress Jillian Bell makes her feature directorial debut with this outrageously hilarious coming-of-age teen sex comedy Summer of 69 (not to be confused with the Bryan Adams song), where a socially awkward high school senior comes up with the brilliant (or, depending on who you ask, the stupidest) idea to pay a local exotic dancer to teach her everything she knows about performing a particular sex act.
You know, the one where the guy puts his... ah... and the girl puts her... ah, in a particular position forming the shape of a specific number... ah, hmm. Where’s that damn Dr. Drew when you need him to explain these kinds of things?
SNL cast member Chloe Fineman stars as the aforementioned “sex coach,” an exotic dancer named Santa Monica at a local strip club, who is approached by Catholic school senior Abby Flores (played by Sam Morelos from the Netflix sitcom That ‘90s Show) with a strange proposition: Abby will pay Santa Monica if she can teach her everything she knows about sex, as she’s trying to impress her longtime high school crush, who, rumor has it, loves the act of 69.
There’s a slight problem. Well, despite the obvious inappropriate nature of the whole thing, it seems Abby has zero experience when it comes to... making whoopee, knocking boots, or getting sleazy with your squeezey—whatever you want to call it. The point is, Abby is starting with a clean slate. And in order to make this work, Santa Monica will have to start from the beginning, guiding and mentoring Abby through every level, every stage, for her to become an expert. In this scenario, Santa Monica is Abby’s Mr. Miyagi, and Abby’s the Daniel-san. But in this case, “wax on, wax off” means something entirely different.
Summer of 69 is also co-written by Jillian Bell alongside Liz Nico and Jules Byrne. The cast also includes Matt Cornett, Nicole Byer, Liza Koshy, Natalie Morales, Alex Moffat, and Fernando Carsa, with appearances by SNL writer/comic actress Paula Pell and Always Sunny’s Charlie Day.
The film was met with a warm reception when it had its world premiere back in March at SXSW. Like we mentioned before, this is Jillian Bell’s directorial debut. But Bell is mostly known for her numerous hilarious performances, including her guest appearances in episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Workaholics, and Eastbound & Down. She is also known for co-starring in the comedies 22 Jump Street, Rough Night, Brittany Runs a Marathon, and most recently Kinda Pregnant.
Summer of 69 will be released as a Hulu original movie, set to stream next week starting Friday, May 9th. Watch the trailer above.
