Stephen Amell Leads a West Coast Team of High-Stakes Lawyers in Upcoming Legal Spinoff Series "Suits LA" - Watch the Trailer
Stephen Amell Stars as a Brash LA Lawyer in a New Chapter of the Legal Drama Franchise from Suits Creator Aaron Korsh
For Suits fans who have been with the legal drama from the start, back in the days of cable television when it aired on the USA Network for nine seasons, they knew the show was irresistibly entertaining. Fans loved the Batman-and-Robin-like camaraderie between the hard-charging, hotshot lawyer Harvey Specter and his whip-smart associate Mike Ross. The show also followed a long-form scripted structure, tackling a new legal case each week, which kept TV watchers coming back to devour every episode. So, it’s no surprise to Suits diehards that the show became a global binge-watching phenomenon years after its series finale when it finally debuted on Netflix. It was more like, what took the rest of the world so long to realize what Suits fans knew all along from the beginning?
Now with a new and bigger fanbase around the show, Suits creator and showrunner Aaron Korsh quickly struck a deal with NBC to capitalize on the show’s newfound popularity. A spinoff was developed, featuring an entirely new cast and set in Los Angeles. While the original Suits took place in the fast-paced world of New York City, this new spinoff will unfold in the sunny vistas of Southern California, where legal deals and contracts are made with powerful lawyers from the entertainment business and other key West Coast industries.
Stephen Amell, known for starring in the CW superhero series Arrow and more recently in the short-lived STARZ wrestling series Heels, leads the cast of this new spinoff, Suits LA. Amell plays Ted Black, an overly confident and brash attorney on the brink of turning his legal team into the largest firm in the city.
So, what’s the connection to the original Suits series, aside from slapping "LA" on the title? Well, it turns out Amell's character, Ted Black, was once an associate of Harvey Specter. The trailer for Suits LA even teases their shared history, with a shot of someone picking up a framed photo of Harvey Specter, Ted Black, and others dressed in baseball (or softball) outfits.
"Remember this guy?" someone asks Amell's Ted Black, referring to Specter in the photo in the trailer (watch it above). "Harvey! From the old days." Black quickly replies.
We gather that Ted and Harvey likely worked together years ago when they were both rising stars in the legal world or perhaps attended the same law school. Whatever the case, Ted Black is definitely positioned to be the Harvey Specter of this LA-based spinoff.
Joining Stephen Amell in the cast and playing members of his law firm are Josh McDermitt (The Walking Dead) as Stuart Lane, Lex Scott Davis (Florida Man) as Erica Rollins, and Bryan Greenberg (The Mindy Project) as Rick Dodsen.
Victoria Justice, Troy Winbush, Alice Lee, and Azita Ghanizada will also appear as recurring characters, while Gabriel Macht is expected to make his return as the one and only, Harvey Specter. Other guest stars include Maggie Grace, Matt Letscher, Sofia Pernas, Patton Oswalt, and the late, John Amos.
Fans can mark their calendars for Sunday, February 23rd, as that is when Suits LA will make its debut on NBC's Peacock. The rest of you can catch up with the original Suits show as all nine seasons are available to stream on Peacock and Netflix right now.
