Rami Malek Stars as a CIA Hacker Seeking Vengeance in Trailer for New Tech-Driven Espionage Thriller "The Amateur" with Rachel Brosnahan and Laurence Fishburne
Rami Malek first gained nationwide attention with his Emmy-Award-winning performance as an underground hacker in the acclaimed techno-thriller series "Mr. Robot." He then won an Oscar for his portrayal of singer Freddie Mercury in the hit biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody." Now, Malek returns to his computer hacking roots in his latest film, "The Amateur," where he plays a low-ranking CIA data analyst whose wife is killed in a terrorist attack. Driven by revenge, he uses his computer skills -- rather than his lack of killer instinct -- to track down those responsible for the ultimate payback.
Check out the official trailer for "The Amateur," a new Rami Malek-starring techno espionage thriller that follows a CIA data expert and code breaker who goes rogue and off the grid after his wife is murdered by terrorists, setting him on a global quest for vengeance. Despite his lack of fighting and weapon skills, he uses his extraordinary hacking, surveillance, and manipulation skills to take down the terrorists -- including rigging a pool to explode with the push of a button.
Malek is backed by a strong supporting cast that includes Rachel Brosnahan, Caitriona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez, Danny Sapani, and Laurence Fishburne.
Acclaimed British television director James Hawes ("Slow Horses," "Black Mirror"), who previously helmed last year's British biographical drama "One Life" starring Anthony Hopkins, directs this new thriller, based on the spy novel by Robert Littell, from a screenplay adaptation by Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli.
"The Amateur" is set to hit theaters on April 11, 2025.
