Pamela Anderson Earns Awards Buzz as a Veteran Vegas Performer in Trailer for Gia Coppola's Emotional Drama "The Last Showgirl" with Jamie Lee Curtis and Dave Bautista
Pamela Anderson, once celebrated as the "Baywatch" beauty of the 1990s, is now stepping into a more emotionally complex role in her 50s. In her latest film, Anderson plays a veteran Vegas showgirl preparing for her final performance. The movie blends the emotional depth of "The Wrestler" with a more grounded and poignant take on "Showgirls." Watch the official trailer for "The Last Showgirl," where Pamela Anderson delivers what critics are calling her career-best performance.
Directed by Gia Coppola, the granddaughter of legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola and niece of director Sofia Coppola, "The Last Showgirl" tells the story of Shelly, a glamorous showgirl who has spent over three decades in Las Vegas working in a long-running stage show. As the show is set to close, Shelly faces a whirlwind of emotions, grappling with anxiety and uncertainty about the future as she prepares to leave behind her life filled with rhinestones and feathers.
Anderson's portrayal of Shelly has garnered critical acclaim and even some Oscar buzz. The film premiered at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, where it received strong reviews. This marks Gia Coppola's third feature film, following "Mainstream" (2020), starring Andrew Garfield, and her debut "Palo Alto" (2013), which starred Emma Roberts.
The screenplay was written by television writer Kate Gersten ("The Good Place," "Mozart in the Jungle," "Up Here"). The film also stars Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis as Shelly's best friend, with Dave Bautista, Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka, and Billie Lourd rounding out the cast.
"The Last Showgirl" will have a one-week Oscar-qualifying theatrical release in Los Angeles starting December 13th, before opening nationwide on January 10, 2025.
