"Nine Perfect Strangers: Season 2" Trailer: Nicole Kidman Returns to Host Another Dark Wellness Retreat in the Austrian Alps in Hulu's Hit Mystery Series
A new set of guests join Tranquillum House for a life-changing retreat that takes a terrifying turn.
If there’s one thing we’ve learned from shows like White Lotus, it’s that you can keep things fresh by creating a unique world and motif, then switching up the cast each season.
Nine Perfect Strangers follows this trend perfectly, offering a new set of characters each season while sticking to its core theme: troubled cosmopolitans seeking rest and relaxation at a luxurious, exotic retreat, only to become the subjects of a drug-induced mystery.
It’s a concept very much in the vein of White Lotus, which is probably why the show has attracted so much A-list talent. And it doesn’t hurt to have Nicole Kidman at the center of each season, playing the mysterious Russian wellness guru Masha Dmitrichenko, who runs the equally mysterious health resort, Tranquillum House. She’s the modern-day equivalent of Mr. Roarke, if Fantasy Island not only offered guests a chance to explore their fantasies, but also trapped them in a psychotic nightmare.
Season 2 welcomes a new cast of characters, random strangers, who have all been exclusively invited to stay at Tranquillum House for a weeklong retreat. This time, the wellness center is nestled in the snow-capped mountains of the Austrian Alps, replacing the sunny vistas of California from the first season. It’s essentially a health reset, not only for the body but also for the mind. Each guest will experience an emotional journey they will never forget... as long as they live, that is.
The new cast includes Mark Strong, Henry Golding, Christine Baranski, Dolly de Leon, Lena Olin, Annie Murphy, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Lucas Englander, King Princess, and Aras Aydin, with Kidman returning to run the ship.
The series hails from mega-successful TV creator/executive producer David E. Kelley, once again using one of Liane Moriarty’s bestselling books as a template for the show. It’s a recipe proven to be a winning formula, thanks to their previous collaboration with Kidman on the Emmy-winning series Big Little Lies.
Season 2 of Nine Perfect Strangers will premiere on Hulu on Wednesday, May 21st. It will have a two-episode premiere on that date, followed by new episodes streaming every week. Eight episodes in total. So, prepare for a wintry mystery where the line between wellness and danger becomes alarmingly interchangeable.
