“Chief of War” Teaser Trailer: Jason Momoa Stars as a Legendary Hawaiian Warrior Caught in a Battle for Unification in His New Epic Series with Temuera Morrison, Luciane Buchanan, and Cliff Curtis — Premieres on Apple TV+ August 1st
Since breaking out as the Dothraki warlord Khal Drogo in the first two seasons of Game of Thrones a decade ago, Jason Momoa has never looked back. Now, he sits pretty after starring in two billion-dollar-making blockbusters: DC’s Aquaman and A Minecraft Movie. The people just love this guy. And what’s not to love? He’s an extremely affable, beer-guzzling, rock-n-roll-loving, bike-riding, environmental-conscience movie star. He has reached that point in his career where he can enjoy bringing a passion project to the screen. It would be something that speaks to him personally, reflecting his connection to his Hawaiian roots. And luckily for us, it doesn’t look like a shallow vanity vehicle, but rather something showcasing Momoa’s heritage and a genuine exploration of a part of Hawaiian history that has yet to be fully told on screen.
Check out the first official teaser for Chief of War, a new nine-episode limited series for Apple TV+ that was co-created by Jason Momoa along with his close friend, writing collaborator, and fellow Hawaiian native, Thomas Pa’a Sibbett (Braven, The Last Manhunt).
The series explores the rich history of the Hawaiian Islands at the turn of the 18th century, a time of great conflict as rival chiefdoms battled for dominance. Amidst the chaos, a Native Hawaiian warrior, Ka’iana (played by Momoa), rose as a brilliant but tragic historical figure whose knowledge, travels, and shifting loyalties shaped the fate of the islands. His legacy would make him a pivotal, yet doomed player in the wars that ultimately unified Hawai’i.
Momoa leads a strong ensemble that includes a cast of mostly New Zealand Māori and Hawaiian actors: Temuera Morrison (Aquaman, The Book of Boba Fett), Luciane Buchanan (The Night Agent), Te Ao O’Hinepehinga Rauna (Breakwater), Siua Ikale’o (NCIS: Hawai’i), Te Kohe Tuhaka (The Dead Lands), and Cliff Curtis (The Meg, Whale Rider).
Actor/filmmaker Justin Chon (Gook, Blue Bayou), who recently directed episodes of the acclaimed series Pachinko, is directing the first two episodes of Chief of War, while Momoa is directing the season finale.
Chief of War is slated to premiere Friday, August 1st on Apple TV+ with a two-episode premiere, followed by new episodes every week.
“IT: Welcome to Derry” Teaser Trailer: Pennywise Haunts a New Generation in Chilling 1960s-Set Prequel from Director Andy Muschietti – Streaming This Fall on HBO Max
You know what’s so amazing about the stories of Stephen King? They feel almost alive, like they’re set in a world with its own rich history. It’s almost as if he’s reporting something that actually happened, not just making it up. Obviously, his mastery of detail and atmosphere is what makes his worlds so immersive, pulling you into them with ease. It’s also a big reason why his stories translate so well into films and shows. They already feel like they’re part of our reality and a part of small-town American history, making the process of extending something like his classic horror novel IT almost seamless.
Now, the world of Derry will be making its television debut this fall as a new HBO Max original series called IT: Welcome to Derry. And from the looks of the teaser trailer, this prequel series is shaping up to bring that haunting, familiar sense of dread right into people’s living rooms. Try getting some sleep after watching an episode of this new horror series that acts as a prequel to the two-part blockbuster IT: Chapter 1 and IT: Chapter 2.
Filmmaker Andy Muschietti, who directed the IT films, is spearheading this new series set in the 1960s before the events of the novel and the film adaptations. It’s the infamous Maine town of Derry, where every 27 years the community is struck with a surge of horrific events, including mass murders, unexplained deaths, and child abductions.
Set decades before the creation of the Losers’ Club, the series will introduce a new cast of kid characters who find themselves facing the terrifying threat of a killer clown known as Pennywise, who, since the existence of Derry itself, has haunted the town with his evil influence.
The cast is led by Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso, with Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as Pennywise.
Andy Muschietti and his producing partner/sister Barbara Muschietti are executive producing, while Muschietti is directing four episodes, including the first one. Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane serve as co-showrunners on the series, with Fuchs penning the premiere episode.
So, come this fall, prepare to be scared all over again. This time, your only escape is the remote.
