🎥 “Daredevil: Born Again: Season 2” Teaser Trailer: Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio Gear Up for a Brutal Power Struggle as Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones Returns — Premiering Tues, March 24 on Disney+
With this week’s premiere of Marvel’s Wonder Man miniseries comes the first look at Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, featuring the return of Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin as they head into another brutal showdown, once again fighting over who truly controls the soul of the city.
The rebooted series — a hybrid that’s firmly MCU-connected yet still closely resembles the old Netflix Marvel show from nearly a decade ago — will once again dip into that shared history by bringing back a beloved character from Daredevil’s past. Enter superhero private eye Jessica Jones, once again played with signature moxie and brass by Krysten Ritter.
It seems lawyer Matt Murdock (aka masked vigilante Daredevil) has gone missing following the events of Season One’s finale, as Wilson Fisk — now the newly elected mayor of New York — orders a citywide crackdown on masked street heroes, turning Hell’s Kitchen’s Man Without Fear into the city’s most wanted. Forced to lay low, Murdock is in full rehabilitation mode, waiting for the right moment to strike back.
While the first season found Murdock questioning whether life as a masked vigilante was more effective than fighting for justice in a courtroom, Season 2 appears to have pushed him into a corner where fighting back only means embracing the violence he was trying so desperately to leave behind. After all, in a city where corruption has run rampant and criminals are running the show from official positions of power, playing by the rules no one else is following is a losing game. The answer just might have to involve some bruises, broken bones, and a willingness to get his hands dirty once more.
While the news that Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, won’t be returning this season (though there’s a rumor he may appear in the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day with Tom Holland) might leave some fans disappointed, longtime viewers of the original Netflix Marvel series will likely be pleased to see Deborah Ann Woll returning once again as Murdock’s dependable ally Karen Page. Meanwhile, Elden Henson makes a surprise appearance in the teaser as Murdock’s best friend, Franklin “Foggy” Nelson, in what appears to be a flashback scene, given that the character was shockingly killed in the first season’s opener.
Others returning for Season 2 include Wilson Bethel as the psychopathic assassin Bullseye; Zabryna Guevara as Fisk’s mayoral staff director, Sheila Rivera; Ayelet Zurer as Fisk’s equally ruthless and conniving wife, Vanessa Fisk; and Michael Gandolfini as Fisk’s ambitious protégé and gopher, Daniel Blake — with Matthew Lillard joining the series this season as a regular.
Already greenlit for a third season, and with the confirmation of Krysten Ritter’s return as Jessica Jones — plus rumors that Mike Colter may be stepping back into the role of Luke Cage — don’t be surprised if these next two Daredevil seasons are quietly setting the stage for another Defenders reboot.
With Dario Scardapane (The Punisher) back serving as showrunner, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 aims to hit hard and leave a mark when it debuts Tuesday, March 24th on Disney+.
🎥 “I Love Boosters” Teaser Trailer: Keke Palmer Leads a Stylish Shoplifting Crew in Boots Riley’s Darkly Satirical Fashion Heist Farce with Demi Moore — Hitting Theaters May 22nd
Robin Hood stole from the rich to give to the poor. A noble idea of how one could tip the scales back to those left behind by a system designed to keep power and money hoarded at the top.
Now picture a crew of young rebellious ladies doing a similar thing, but instead of stealing money from the rich, it’s designer clothing. They lift pricey clothes straight from high-end fashion stores and flip them at prices that actually make economic sense for those who can’t afford such luxury items in the first place. It’s kind of like Robin Hood, but if he were deep in the resale hustle game.
That’s the basic gist behind Boots Riley’s latest darkly satirical feature film, I Love Boosters, starring Keke Palmer as the leader of a stylish crew of shoplifters (aka boosters) known as the “Velvet Gang.” Once again set in Boots’ hometown of Oakland, these women aim their sights on every major designer boutique store in the Bay Area, hoping to turn a profit by reselling what the elite fashion world insists should be reserved only for the rich. ’Cause if you’re gonna shoplift, why not do it in style?
Demi Moore, fresh off her Oscar-nominated role in The Substance and currently co-starring in the hit series Landman, continues her comeback by taking on the role of Christie Smith, a world-renowned fashion mogul who has not only become the Velvet Gang’s number-one target but has also ignited a very public feud, arguing for artists’ protection rights. Which begs the question: when does art become just another consumer good, where the end goal is no longer expression but profit?
Joining Keke Palmer as her fellow thieving accomplices are a crew of sharp, stylish misfits played by Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, Poppy Liu, and Eiza González. Rounding out the cast are LaKeith Stanfield, Will Poulter, and Don Cheadle.
The film marks musician-turned-filmmaker Boots Riley’s second feature, following his head-scratching, sci-fi-tinged telemarketing satire Sorry to Bother You, which made a huge splash at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Riley, known for his progressive political views and his staunch critique of capitalism, once again turns his sharp eye toward systems of inequality and exploitation—though this time filtered through the absurdist world of high-end fashion and resale culture.
I Love Boosters, which follows Boots’ 2023 Prime Video superhero satire series I’m a Virgo, will be making its world premiere in March at the SXSW Film Festival. The film, distributed through NEON, will be coming to theaters on May 22nd.
