New Sneak Peek Teasers: FX's "Alien: Earth" and Ryan Coogler's "Sinners" Starring Michael B. Jordan
A pair of teasers has recently surfaced online, likely to raise a few eyebrows. We imagine some will be excited, as they do a great job of teasing the senses with a sneak peek at a couple of major projects coming later this year.
First up: it's a teaser for the upcoming FX series set in the Alien universe, which seems to be bringing those vicious Xenomorph creatures to the planet we call home, Earth.
“Alien: Earth” Teaser: FX's Upcoming Alien Prequel Series Brings Xenomorphs to Earth – From ‘Fargo’ Creator Noah Hawley – Premieres this Summer on FX and Hulu.
Noah Hawley, the creator of the Emmy-winning anthology crime series Fargo, is the mastermind behind this new Alien installment—a small-screen prequel set two years before the events of Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi horror masterpiece Alien. The FX show, Alien: Earth, is said to envision a mysterious spacecraft crash-landing on Earth, where a small group of tactical soldiers stumble upon a shocking discovery: deadly alien creatures onboard.
Obviously, if they escape, the rest of the human population will be exposed to a danger unlike anything they've seen before... Well, until two years later in Alien, when Nostromo warrant officer Ripley becomes the sole survivor and witness to the existence of the Xenomorphs.
Hawley is writing, directing, and serving as the showrunner for this Alien prequel series, which features a cast including Timothy Olyphant, Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, and Adarsh Gourav.
The teaser, running only about 30 seconds, shows a runaway spaceship rapidly drifting through space. We see that the ship is carrying at least one face-hugger, which plummets through the air before crashing into a door window, letting out a loud shriek in pain. The camera then pulls back to a wide shot of the uncontrolled spacecraft as it enters Earth's atmosphere. With flames shooting from its sides, it's clear that the vessel is heading straight for Earth.
Executive produced by Ridley Scott, Alien: Earth is debuting on FX and Hulu sometime in the summer. After the success of Alien: Romulus, this new FX series might prove that there's still life in this old franchise yet.
Next up: We got a new teaser for Ryan Coogler's highly anticipated horror thriller set in the prohibition-era South, starring Michael B. Jordan as twin brothers caught in a terrifying predicament.
“Sinners” Trailer Tease: Michael B. Jordan Stars as Twin Brothers in Ryan Coogler's Prohibition-Era Horror Thriller Where a Barn Party Takes a Sinister Turn – In Theaters April 18th.
What makes Sinners so exciting is that it marks Ryan Coogler's first foray into the horror genre and his first original work since his 2013 debut, Fruitvale Station. Yes, sure, he worked on the Creed films, but those were spinoffs of the Rocky franchise. And over the past seven years, he’s been carving out his place in the Marvel Universe with his Black Panther films. So it's nice to see Coogler branching out and expanding his filmmaking skills with something that looks like a lot of fun—that is, if your idea of fun is a horror flick set in the Jim Crow South.
The teaser shows Michael B. Jordan as twin brothers Elijah and Elias, hosting a barn dance on their property with friends, family, and locals. However, three mysterious strangers, led by Jack O'Connell, arrive at the entrance of their establishment, asking to join the celebration. They suggest they could provide some music, picking up a banjo, fiddle, and guitar, before proceeding to sing a creepy little folk song about "picking a body clean." Could this be a hint that they are some kind of cannibals? There's a rumor that the film might be a vampire story of some kind, but given the setting in the South, it could just as easily be a southern gothic horror about demons, which fits the title, Sinners.
Anyhoo, a full trailer is coming later in the week. So, we might know more then. Sinners is set to open in theaters on April 18th.
