“We Were Liars” Trailer: Dark Secrets Surface on a Private Island in Prime Video’s Twisty New Psychological Thriller Starring Emily Alyn Lind with David Morse and Mamie Gummer – All Episodes Streaming June 18th
If you’ve noticed a wave of new TV shows emerging where the core revolves around affluent families living on the coast, forced to hide troubling secrets that could unravel their bonds... Well, you’re not alone. We notice it too. And apparently, people love watching seemingly picture-perfect families exposed as their skeletons tumble out of the closet. It makes for compulsively watchable dramas, and Amazon Prime is the latest streaming service to roll out its own seaside soap opera that peels back the veneer of wealth to reveal dark family secrets.
In this case, it’s the Sinclair family. They have the money, the charm, and their own private island where family and friends can get together and have a grand ole time! So, what could possibly go wrong? Well… everything.
We Were Liars is a new twisty psychological thriller series based on E. Lockhart’s bestselling novel. Set against the sun-soaked coastline of New England, where a secret-soaked mystery proves even the brightest summers can hide the darkest truths.
Here, Emily Alyn Lind (from the new Gossip Girl reboot series) stars as Cadence Sinclair Eastman, heir to the picture-perfect legacy of the Sinclair family—practically American royalty. She is dealing with a life-shattering accident she can’t fully remember. Last summer, she was found nearly naked, bloodied, bruised, and washed ashore unconscious with no memory of what or who hurt her. A year later, Cadence returns to her family’s island estate to see if she can piece back her memory of that fateful night.
Surrounded by her fiercely loyal inner circle known as “the Liars” (Shubham Maheshwari, Esther McGregor, Joseph Zada), Cadence clearly senses that something is very off. Everyone’s smiling, but no one’s telling the truth. And as memories resurface, so do the lies.
With a strong supporting cast including Caitlin FitzGerald, Mamie Gummer, Candice King, Rahul Kohli, and David Morse—and brought to screen by co-showrunners Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie—We Were Liars is part mystery thriller, part teen fever dream, and part... this family is so screwed up they make the Kennedys look like the Boy Scouts.
All eight episodes hit Prime Video on Wednesday, June 18th.
“Esports World Cup: Level Up” Trailer: Amazon’s New Doc Series Spotlights the High-Stakes World of Pro Gaming – Premieres June 6th on Prime Video
Okay, we’ve all picked up a game controller and spent a few hours playing video games for fun. But imagine if that was your life… something you did professionally. Now before you disregard any notions that video game sports aren’t “real” sports, know that these players train like pros, study complex strategies, and compete under the same high stakes as any athlete. In fact, Esports is no longer niche, as online competitive video games have become more and more mainstream these days. Players around the world compete annually in tournament series that award millions in prizes.
So what’s stopping these games from taking over the world of sports? Why haven’t these tournaments joined the ranks of basketball’s NBA Finals, football’s Super Bowl, baseball’s World Series, or soccer’s World Cup? Well, it might have something to do with Esports’ perceived lack of acknowledgement. That’s about to change as Amazon Prime’s new series shines a spotlight on the players behind the screens, giving esports the mainstream recognition it deserves.
In the upcoming five-episode documentary series Esports World Cup: Level Up, viewers will get a chance to dive into the personal struggles of pro gamers as they juggle intense training regimens, mental health battles, and the pressure to perform—all while chasing their dreams of becoming the best video gamers in the world.
Now if you thought video games were merely for kids and weekend time-fillers, think again! This new docu-series shows that the dedication of these gamers can rival any traditional professional athlete, treating every match like a championship showdown. It’s blood, sweat, and tears. And to perform at this level means everything is on the line. Sometimes the pressure can be too much to bear, but to reach the top, it might all be worth the headaches, the rage-out screams, and the sleepless nights.
Directed by award-winning documentary filmmaker R.J. Cutler (whose credits include Elton John: Never Too Late, Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry, and American High), Esports World Cup: Level Up is set to debut this Friday, June 6th, exclusively on Prime Video, with new episodes dropping every Friday.
Official Synopsis:
