While recently watching Clint Eastwood's solid legal thriller Juror #2, I couldn't stop thinking about the man sitting at the murder trial. Who is that actor, where have I seen him before? Then it hit me, it's The Night Agent! Gabriel Basso. When the debut season of Netflix's highly addictive political conspiracy action-thriller hit the platform in March 2023, like a lot of people around the world, we were hooked instantly. And Gabriel Basso became one of those young actors who impressed Netflix viewers with his ability to be earnest as well as heroic. So, fans of The Night Agent can rest assured the highly anticipated second season will be here soon! Netflix released the official trailer for the upcoming season during this Christmas break, giving us a glimpse of the high-stakes action that’s set to unfold. Gabriel Basso returns as FBI agent Peter Sutherland, once again stationed in the White House basement, tasked with managing the calls other agents avoid unless absolutely necessary.
Season 2 picks up with Sutherland facing yet another dangerous mission as he uncovers a conspiracy aimed at destabilizing the nation, forcing him to go rogue yet again. Cobra Kai: Series Finale - Teaser
(on Feb 13th on Netflix)
Well, if you haven't kept up with Cobra Kai, the popular Karate Kid spinoff sequel series, we regret to inform you that the show is coming to a close with its final sixth season. This season saw the kids at All-Valley flying to Spain to compete in a highly competitive karate tournament featuring some of the most impressive young fighters from around the world.
Here's the thing: Netflix has split the final season into three parts. As this new teaser reveals, the series finale is now slated to premiere on February 13th, so you still have some time to catch up before it airs. Part 3 of Season 6 will consist of five new episodes, promising an epic conclusion to a beloved franchise that began 40 years ago.
However, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) might not be done just yet, as he is expected to team up with Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) later in the summer for a new big-screen franchise installment called Karate Kid: Legends. It’s worth noting that Legends has no connection to the Cobra Kai Netflix series or its creators Hayden Schlossberg, Josh Heald, and Jon Hurwitz, who were not involved in the upcoming big-screen installment. So, one could assume that this new series finale will truly be the final time we see William Zabka's character Johnny Lawrence, as Cobra Kai has largely focused on his journey of learning to become a better sensei for his students, as well as finally putting an end to his bitter rivalry with Daniel LaRusso.
Zero Day - Teaser
(on Feb. 20 on Netflix)
You wouldn't be wrong if you've seen lately a lot of older Oscar-winning actors, known for their big-screen personas, finding a new home for themselves in television. Those days where movie stars only do movies and television stars only do TV are long gone by now. Screen legend Robert De Niro has followed suit like a lot of contemporaries and has found a place for himself in streaming.
For his first television role as a series regular, De Niro takes the lead in the upcoming Netflix political conspiracy thriller Zero Day, portraying George Mullen, a former U.S. president tasked with finding the perpetrators of a devastating cyber attack on the country. The problem is, the mission might be bigger than he expected, as uncovering the truth is not as simple as it once was in this new era of disinformation.
De Niro is backed up by a stellar cast that includes Angela Bassett as President Mitchell, Lizzy Caplan as De Niro's daughter Alexandra Mullen, Joan Allen as De Niro's wife Sheila Mullen, with notable supporting actors like Jesse Plemons, Connie Britton, Matthew Modine, Dan Stevens, Bill Camp, Gaby Hoffmann, Clark Gregg, and Mark Ivanir.
Zero Day was created by Eric Newman (Narcos), former NBC News president Noah Oppenheim, and New York Times writer Michael S. Schmidt. De Niro also serves as an executive producer, while Newman and Oppenheim are co-showrunners for this six-episode thriller.
Acclaimed television director Lesli Linka Glatter, known for her work on such shows as Homeland, The West Wing, and Love & Death, directs the entire first season. The show is slated to premiere February 20th, only on Netflix.
American Primeval - Teaser
(on Jan. 9 on Netflix)
Betty Gilpin was excellent as the fictional '80s female wrestler Liberty Belle in the Netflix series GLOW. She reunites with the streaming company, but this time, she's far removed from the glamorous world of ladies wrestling. Gilpin takes on the role of a frontierswoman trying to survive the harsh elements of the American Old West in the upcoming American Primeval. Hailing from acclaimed director Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Lone Survivor) and acclaimed screenwriter Mark L. Smith (The Revenant, Twisters), this new six-episode miniseries delves into the harsh and unforgiving early days of the American West, circa 1857, following a mother and her young son as they travel through a treacherous landscape. She soon enlists the help of a skilled survivalist with a troubled past, portrayed by Taylor Kitsch (Waco, The Terminal List, Lone Survivor), to guide them through a dangerous terrain filled with Mormon radicals, ruthless outlaws, and warring Native American tribes.
Co-starring Kim Coates, Jai Courtney, Dane DeHaan, and Shea Whigham, American Primeval is sure to warm the hearts of fans who loved shows like Godless, Lonesome Dove, or Yellowstone and its many prequels. It starts on January 9th on Netflix.
