Michelle Yeoh Leads a Covert Starfleet Mission in Trailer for Paramount's New 'Star Trek: Discovery' Spinoff Movie "Section 31" with Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, and Sam Richardson
Since her Oscar win for "Everything Everywhere All at Once," Michelle Yeoh has kept her plate pretty full. After her recent appearance in the blockbuster "Wicked," Yeoh's next adventure will take her from the land of Oz to a journey among the stars.
Check out the official trailer for "Star Trek: Section 31," an original Paramount Plus movie where Michelle Yeoh reprises her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou from the first season of "Star Trek: Discovery."
Yeoh's Georgiou is a diabolical and ruthless captain from an evil mirror universe where the Federation is a nefarious organization. In "Discovery," Georgiou managed to escape to the prime universe. There, she was recruited to serve as a spy in Starfleet's top-secret black ops intelligence agency, called Section 31. Georgiou made recurring appearances throughout the seasons of "Discovery" before its finale.
There were discussions about Yeoh leading her own "Star Trek" series, but Paramount ultimately decided to greenlight a spinoff movie instead. However, who knows -- if the reactions are positive and loud, a series could still be in the works.
In the upcoming "Section 31" movie, Georgiou is now a top-secret Federation spy with a deeply dark past. She soon finds herself leading a team of covert Starfleet officers who have no choice but to place their trust -- and their lives -- in her hands.
Yeoh is joined by Omari Hardwick ("Power"), Kacey Rohl (NBC's "Hannibal"), Sam Richardson ("Veep," "Ted Lasso"), Sven Ruygrok ("One Piece"), Robert Kazinsky ("Pacific Rim"), Humberly Gonzalez ("Ginny & Georgia"), and James Hiroyuki Liao ("Barry"), with Miku Martineau ("Kate") playing a young Georgiou in flashback scenes.
"Section 31" is written by television writer-producer Craig Sweeny, whose credits include episodes of "Star Trek: Discovery," "Elementary," "Medium," and "The 4400." Meanwhile, Olatunde Osunsanmi, a television producer-director who helmed 14 episodes of "Star Trek: Discovery," takes the helm for this new movie. He also serves as an executive producer alongside franchise EP Alex Kurtzman, Craig Sweeny, Aaron Baiers, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, and Michelle Yeoh herself.
"Star Trek: Section 31" is set to premiere January 24th on Paramount Plus.
