"M3GAN 2.0" Final Trailer: The Killer Robot Returns with Upgrades, Sassy Dance Moves, and a Deadly Rival with Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, and Ivanna Sakhno
Gemma and her niece Cady face a new threat as a stolen M3GAN design creates a rogue killer bot. Can the original M3GAN be reprogrammed to protect them?
How do you stop a killer robot from getting to you and everyone you love? Well, if we look at past films, Terminator 2 had an interesting solution: make sure another killer robot is on your side and let it take care of the problem for you.
Now that seems to be the idea that M3GAN 2.0 is embracing as Gemma and her niece Cady find themselves in the crosshairs of a new killer robot built from stolen designs of the original M3GAN doll, which, as we all know, went dangerously haywire in the last film. But in this upcoming sequel to the 2022 sleeper hit, M3GAN is not only getting reinstated but also upgraded. So the question is: can we trust her to kill only when it’s absolutely, positively the last option—and to target only those who pose a direct threat, sparing every innocent human?
Guess we don’t have any way of knowing for sure. However, this is what we do know: you can expect plenty of camp, sass, sparkle, and enough dance moves to make you want to join the party. Now if (and when) that party becomes a blood-soaked massacre … well, anyone near the vicinity of M3GAN and her equally lethal adversary better get the hell out of there as fast as they can. It will likely be a bloodbath!
Check out this final trailer for M3GAN 2.0, offering a look at some of the killer robot carnage that goes from extreme to wildly insane. While the first film gently leaned on dark humor and satire, this follow-up feels like it’s going straight into full-on campiness, embracing over-the-top theatrics and robot-on-robot mayhem.
Allison Williams returns as Gemma, the sharp-minded A.I. engineer behind the original M3GAN doll. When Gemma learns that her groundbreaking designs have been stolen to create a new, deadly android named Amelia, she realizes the threat is personal... especially with the rogue Amelia now possibly targeting her and her niece Cady (again played by Violet McGraw).
With time running out, Gemma hatches a desperate plan: revive the original M3GAN robot. But this isn’t just a simple system reboot... it’s a full-on redemption arc. Gemma sets out to reprogram M3GAN with a new moral compass, hoping to turn her from a killer into a protector. The stakes? Huge. The odds? Slim. But with some serious upgrades, including enhanced strength, a growth spurt, and those killer dance moves, M3GAN is ready for a high-tech face-off where only one bot walks away unscathed.
Now we must ask ourselves, can we trust M3GAN to do the right thing here … or is she just biding her time to reveal her true, homicidal nature? In that case, we're all doomed but it's going to be a hell of a time until then.
Back to perform M3GAN’s body movements—and, of course, those iconic dance moves—is once again young New Zealand dancer and actress Amie Donald, while voice actress Jenna Davis returns as M3GAN’s sassy robot voice.
Meanwhile, taking on the role of M3GAN’s rival, the equally homicidal A.I. assassin Amelia, is none other than Ukrainian actress Ivanna Sakhno, last seen playing the ruthless dark Jedi mercenary Shin Hati in the Star Wars series Ahsoka.
While the first M3GAN movie was penned by Malignant’s Akela Cooper with help from a story she co-wrote with producer James Wan, this sequel has become the work of New Zealand horror filmmaker Gerard Johnstone, who directed the first M3GAN film. Johnstone is back to both direct and write the sequel, which seems to be the reason why the franchise is now fully leaning into satire, as Johnstone’s previous feature debut, 2014’s Housebound, was a straight-up horror comedy.
In addition to Allison Williams and Violet McGraw, the cast includes returning Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps as Gemma’s loyal tech teammates, Cole and Tess, while joining the cast of the sequel are Aristotle Athari (Hacks), Timm Sharp (Percy Jackson and the Olympians), and Grammy winner and 11-time Emmy nominee Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows).
Again produced by Blumhouse’s Jason Blum and Atomic Monster’s James Wan with Allison Williams now stepping in as a producer, M3GAN 2.0 is set to slay its way in theaters this month, starting June 27th.
Official Synopsis:
Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.
Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around.
With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I bitch is about to meet her match.
