"Ice Road: Vengeance" Trailer: Liam Neeson Drives Into Danger Yet Again (This Time in the Himalayas!) in Jonathan Hensleigh’s Action-Thriller Sequel
From frozen lakes to mountain peaks, Neeson returns as big-rig hero Mike McCann, facing hijackers, kidnappers, and collapsing roads in this pulse-pounding follow-up to The Ice Road.
Well, this rarely happens. And no, we’re not talking about Liam Neeson starring in yet another action thriller. That seems to happen quite frequently. The rare thing is, this is a sequel to a Netflix original feature that’s going straight to theaters first. And as far as we can tell, Netflix has nothing to do with its production or its release. Though we don’t doubt it’ll eventually make its way onto the streaming platform sooner or later. But that’s only if the producers behind the film end up making a deal with the streamer.
For those who have no clue what we’re talking about, Liam Neeson and action filmmaker Jonathan Hensleigh (The Punisher, Kill the Irishman) joined forces on the 2021 film The Ice Road, where the distribution rights were acquired exclusively by Netflix and released that summer.
Neeson played Mike McCann, a down-on-his-luck trucker driving a big rig filled with rescue supplies across a frozen lake on an extremely dangerous mission to save trapped miners in northern Canada. It was basically The Wages of Fear meets Ice Road Truckers, yet more adrenaline-fueled than philosophical... and a lot more of that ’80s action cheese. It wasn’t a film we’d rank as one of Neeson’s best, but better than some of his cornball action clunkers from recent years.
But with Ice Road: Vengeance, Neeson returns as Mike McCann, this time trading the frozen highways of North America for the treacherous mountain passes of the Himalayas. After taking a trip to Nepal, Mike is joined by a local tour guide (played by Chinese actress Fan Bingbing) on his trek to Mt. Everest.
But while riding on a rickety bus to the famous mountain range, Mike soon finds himself at the center of a hijacking. Now, with a busload of innocent tourists under the control of a crew of ruthless kidnappers, Mike must shift gears from hauler to hero. And as the plot to demolish sacred Nepalese land comes to light, Mike must once again take the wheel and go full throttle against an army of hired guns—proving once again that no one drives like Neeson under pressure... and no one grunts and growls like a pissed-off Neeson.
Written and directed by Hensleigh and co-starring Grace O'Sullivan, Amelia Bishop, Marcus Thomas, Bernard Curry, and Geoff Morrell, Ice Road: Vengeance is slated to hit theaters June 27th.
So, buckle up and strap in... ‘cuz with Neeson behind the wheel, the only thing that’ll be higher than your pulse is the altitude.
