"Holland" Trailer: Nicole Kidman Uncovers Dark Secrets in a Perfect Small Town
In this new Amazon mystery flick, Nicole Kidman plays a homemaker who suspects her idyllic town hides something sinister.
At this point, does Nicole Kidman ever stay home for more than a week? The Oscar-and-Emmy winner is constantly working, and there’s a good chance she’s on a production set somewhere in the world right now. We bet she's getting ready for her close-up at this very moment.
Kidman is one of the rare actresses of a certain age who not only works consistently but does so across every type of platform—whether it’s the big screen (Babygirl), prestige TV (The Perfect Couple), or streaming (Lioness). She’s just as likely to be seen projected in theaters (Aquaman, The Northman) as she is popping up in those now-iconic AMC ads, which have become prime meme material for the “magic” of going to the movies.
So, it should come as no surprise that Kidman—never one to take a break—has a new film arriving in March, with several more projects lined up for 2025. And after a packed 2024, she’ll be kicking off the new year with Holland, a new Amazon original feature, for which the streaming studio has just dropped the first official trailer.
In the film, Kidman plays Nancy Vandergroot, a happily married woman who spends her days teaching Home-Ec at the local high school while fulfilling her role as a devoted homemaker to her husband (Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen) and their young son (Belfast’s Jude Hill).
Nancy loves waking up every day in the idyllic town of Holland, Michigan, where everything seems perfect—maybe too perfect, though! So, as small, unsettling details begin to pile up, Nancy starts to suspect that there’s something sinister lurking beneath the town’s picturesque facade. Teaming up with a fellow schoolteacher (played by Gael García Bernal), Nancy embarks on a secret investigation to uncover whether life in Holland is really as perfect as it seems—or if something far more disturbing is hiding in plain sight.
Written by Andrew Sodroski (creator of the true-crime anthology series Manhunt), Holland is directed by Mimi Cave, marking her follow-up to her 2022 feature debut, Fresh.
With Fresh, Cave earned high critical praise for her stylish, genre-bending directorial debut. The film—a twisted, darkly comedic dating thriller starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan—initially presents itself as a typical rom-com about two single people meeting in a supermarket. But at a certain point, the tone takes a very twisted turn. If you haven’t seen it yet, Fresh is still available to stream on Hulu—but be warned to have the rug pulled right under you.
Holland, however, will be streaming globally on Prime Video starting on March 27th. Watch the trailer, above.
Here's the official synopsis:
