"High Rollers" Trailer: John Travolta Leads a Casino Heist to Save His Wife in New Crime Thriller
John Travolta leads a high-stakes casino heist in new crime thriller with Gina Gershon, Lukas Haas, and Quavo.
Have you heard the phrase "as thick as thieves"? It's an idiom that dates back to the early 19th century, meaning two or more people are loyal to one another, often sharing secrets or engaging in conspiratorial behavior. The idea originated from street thieves who worked closely together in tight-knit groups, relying on each other to carry out their schemes. Well, those days are gone! We now live in a dog-eat-dog world, and criminals live by a new motto: there’s no honor among thieves.
Illustrating this point is John Travolta, playing a career swindler who is forced to work for his ruthless archnemesis when his wife is kidnapped and held for ransom. In exchange for his wife's safe return, Travolta and his merry band of bandits must pull off the ultimate casino robbery in this upcoming heist thriller, High Rollers.
The film's newly released trailer showcases Travolta's innate ability to be suave and charismatic. And we have to say, at age 70, Travolta surprisingly still pulls off being a smooth international criminal in a nicely tailored suit. Looking sharp!
Gina Gershon joins in on the fun, playing Travolta's glamorously dressed wife, who is taken hostage and used as ransom but still finds time to enjoy a cocktail for two. Among those playing members of Travolta's elite criminal team are Lukas Haas (Inception) and rapper Quavo. And funnily enough, we just realized that this is a sequel to 2024’s Cash Out, which also starred Travolta, Haas, and Quavo. Didn’t realize this was a franchise in the making? Go figure.
A filmmaker who goes by the name IVES directs the film from a script by Chris Sivertson (I Know Who Killed Me, Marauders). IVES is apparently Randall Emmett, a film producer whose credits are all over the place, including Boss Level, The Irishman, Escape Plan, End of Watch, and a string of second-rate crime thrillers starring Bruce Willis.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
Master thief Mason (John Travolta) is living the criminal’s dream: island-hopping with his crew and the love of his life, Decker (Gina Gershon), while floating on a sea of stolen cash. But his dream is shattered when his nemesis, the ruthless Salazar (Danny Pardo), kidnaps Decker and forces Mason and his crew to attempt a near-impossible casino heist in exchange for her return. Hedged in by Salazar’s equally ruthless rivals, and with the FBI on his tail, Mason gambles everything in pursuit of both the big score and the ultimate jackpot: Decker’s life.
High Rollers is coming to theaters and on VOD and digital platforms starting March 14. Watch the trailer above.
