"Duster" Trailer: Josh Holloway Hits the Gas in J.J. Abrams’ Retro-Style '70s Crime Series with Rachel Hilson and Keith David
Holloway stars as a slick getaway driver forced into an unlikely alliance with an FBI agent (Hilson) to take down a ruthless drug kingpin (David).
1970s crime exploitation comes roaring back with the help of Lost star Josh Holloway, who reunites with Lost co-creator J.J. Abrams for this new series. It’s an explosive mix of muscle cars, leather jackets, bellbottoms, bloodthirsty thugs, ruthless mob bosses, and a professional getaway driver who finds himself working with a rookie FBI agent—despite his better judgment.
In Duster, a new grindhouse-style throwback from creators J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan (Into the Badlands, Turn: Washington’s Spies), Holloway takes on the role of Jim, a mob-connected driver who’s as slick as they come. When he’s behind the wheel, magic happens, making him nearly impossible to catch. Jim works for Ezra Saxton, one of the most notorious drug kingpins in the southwest. When Saxton calls, Jim answers—and thanks to his cherry-red 1970s Plymouth Duster, he'll be by his side in a flash.
When Jim is approached by a young, ambitious FBI agent, Nina (played by Winning Time’s Rachel Hilson), with the desire of turning him into an informant, he quickly responds with a firm “kick rocks and get out of my face.” But when Nina reveals that Saxton might have something to do with Jim’s brother’s untimely death, the shocking revelation sparks an unlikely alliance as they set out to bring down the man behind all their misery.
Legendary character actor Keith David (The Thing, They Live, Dead Presidents), whose smooth velvet-toned husky voice is as memorable as his cool on-screen presence, shines as the cold-blooded Ezra Saxton. While he may not be untouchable, he always seems to remain one step ahead of everyone.
The series also features Evan Jones (8 Mile, Jarhead) as Billy the Bloodhound, one of Ezra’s main enforcers whose tactics are as brutal as they are effective. Rounding out the cast are Sydney Elisabeth, Camille Guaty, Greg Grunberg, with Corbin Bernsen, Donal Logue, and Gail O’Grady.
Duster might just be that perfect reminder of why pulpy ‘70s crime thrillers were thick with swagger, style, and raw energy, all with a touch of sleazy coolness—like an old funk record with a nasty bassline and a hypnotic electric guitar riff.
Duster roars onto MAX on Thursday, May 15th. So, prepare to burn rubber, but don’t forget to tuck a loaded pistol in one of your boots … it might just come in handy!
