David Corenswet Soars in First Look Teaser Trailer for James Gunn's Highly Anticipated DC Universe Relaunch "Superman" with Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult
Well, saying a lot is riding on this might just be the understatement of the year. Indeed, a great deal is riding on Superman, the upcoming DC superhero film from writer-director James Gunn, who is also the newly appointed co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios. The film marks the start of a new chapter in the DC Cinematic Universe, now under the direction of Gunn and DC Studios co-head Peter Safran, launching a brand-new slate of DC superhero films. While Superman may be DC's most famous and well-known superhero character, that doesn't necessarily mean it's destined for huge success. Sure, there is a trove of DC fans eager to see a new big-screen Superman rendition, but there’s also an equal amount of apprehension and nerves. The fear is that if this new Superman movie doesn’t soar above those expectations, everything planned afterward could be put in jeopardy. The pressure is so high, one might say it will take a Superman to rise above it.
Well, that moment has arrived: it's the trailer DC fans have been waiting for with bated breath. So, without further ado, behold the very first official teaser trailer for James Gunn's Superman, featuring the first glimpses of David Corenswet as Clark Kent aka Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as intrepid Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane. Said to be inspired by the award-winning comic book series All-Star Superman, this new DC film walks the fine line of not being a full-blown origin story while also setting up a new DC universe already inhabited by established superhero characters. The story will find a young Superman reconciling his Kryptonian family heritage with his adoptive Earth parents in Smallville, Kansas, while establishing himself at the Daily Planet as reporter Clark Kent.
Corenswet, a relative newcomer (though you might have seen him in Ti West's horror thriller Pearl and recently in the blockbuster sequel Twisters), is tasked with picking up the Herculean mantle of wearing the red cape, donning a tight hair curl, and sporting the famous "S" chest symbol. Corenswet follows in the footsteps of former Superman actors like Henry Cavill, Brandon Routh, Tyler Hoechlin, Tom Welling, Dean Cain, and, of course, Christopher Reeve and George Reeves. You could say Corenswet has joined an exclusive club. This newly released trailer offers our first look at Corenswet as Superman, and we're sure the internet already has its opinions.
Corenswet is joined by a stellar cast of supporting actors, including Emmy-winner Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as famed reporter Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo (The Righteous Gemstones) as Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce (Suits) as Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White, and Nicholas Hoult (Nosferatu) as the infamous Lex Luthor. Also joining in the fun are Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant with Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell as Pa Jonathan and Ma Martha Kent. Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) is also expected to have a small appearance as Supergirl.
Superman is no doubt already regarded as one of the most anticipated movies of 2025. Fans can mark their calendars for the summer as the movie hits theaters nationwide on July 11th. Watch the trailer, above.
