"Bride Hard" Trailer: Rebel Wilson Kicks Ass as Undercover Spy at a Wedding in This New Action Comedy with Anna Camp, Anna Chlumsky and Da’Vine Joy Randolph
Wilson stars as a lethal undercover operative trying to keep her secret identity intact at her best friend's wedding, but things take a turn when mercenaries crash the party.
In her hit 2015 action comedy Spy, comic actress Melissa McCarthy, arguably one of the best physical comedians in recent years, proved that one can use their natural comedic physicality to mold an entirely different performance, like for the action genre in that case. Well, it seems McCarthy has opened the door for other comediennes to do the same and follow suit. Enter, Rebel Wilson.
In Bride Hard, the Pitch Perfect star taps into her inner McCarthy as she stars as an undercover operative trying her hardest to keep her double life as an ass-kicking spy a secret from her closest friends. But her personal life takes a turn when her best friend’s wedding party is suddenly taken over by armed mercenaries. She now runs the risk of having her cover blown as she, much like John McClane in Die Hard, becomes the proverbial monkey wrench in the mercenary army’s carefully laid plans. She attempts to throw off their every move with her lethal skills and fearless antics, all while trying to keep her true identity a secret from those closest to her.
Rebel Wilson reunites with her Pitch Perfect co-star Anna Camp, who plays the bride-to-be. Camp’s character is fed up with her best friend always being vague about her job, constantly leaving without much notice at various suspicious moments. Like most in her circle of friends, she has grown emotionally exhausted from Rebel’s character constantly sneaking around and being unreliable, especially when they need her the most for the fast-approaching wedding. Soon, her maid of honor privileges are revoked. And those duties are given to another friend (played by Veep’s Anna Chlumsky). She is eager to take center stage and show she can handle the responsibility, even if it means pushing Rebel’s character aside.
Well, little do they know, Rebel just might be the only friend anyone can ask for when the shit goes down, as she takes out baddies with only a pair of flat iron hair straighteners and a bottle of champagne. This bridesmaid ain’t playing around. You’ve heard of Bridezilla, now get ready for a bridesmaid that’s twice as ferocious and twice as lethal. She adds a dark comedic twist on the term: red wedding.
Directed by action maestro Simon West, best known for helming action classics like Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and The Expendables 2, the film stars Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, and Anna Chlumsky, who join forces with Oscar-winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Gigi Zumbado to make up the ultimate bridesmaid group.
Stephen Dorff co-stars as the ruthless ringleader of the armed mercenaries, while Justin Hartley joins in the fun as a wedding guest. Rounding out the cast are Sam Huntington, Sherry Cola, Michael O’Neill, and Colleen Camp.
Written by Shaina Steinberg from a story by Steinberg and CeCe Pleasants Adams, Bride Hard is coming to theaters June 20th. Watch the trailer, above.
Official Synopsis:
Sam (Rebel Wilson) is a world-class secret agent… and a pretty terrible maid of honor. After blowing off bridal duties for an international spy mission, she’s demoted to bridesmaid at her childhood best friend’s wedding. What should’ve been a weekend of reconnecting and celebration turns into a five-star death trap when armed mercenaries crash the big day. Sam’s the only one who can save the bride, and hopefully earn back the trust she lost along the way. Dodging bullets and trying not to ruin the floral arrangements, Sam takes on the ultimate wedding crasher, realizing that sometimes the toughest mission isn’t taking down the bad guys, but showing up for the people who matter.
