“Avengers: Doomsday” Official Trailer: Thor Rallies Marvel’s Greatest Heroes Against Doctor Doom in the Highly Anticipated MCU Crossover Event — In Theaters December 18th

Chris Hemsworth’s Thor declares in the first official full-length trailer for the highly anticipated MCU crossover event Avengers: Doomsday, featuring practically everyone of significance in the Marvel universe as they reunite to face one formidable threat: Victor von Doom, aka Doctor Doom.
By now, anyone with even passing knowledge of MCU news would likely know that Robert Downey Jr. has returned to take on the role of Doctor Doom. It’s a fitting twist in this era of multiverse, as the man best known for playing the MCU’s greatest hero, Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, is now the one threatening to destroy it.
Doom, a Latverian genius and tyrant, has long been one of Iron Man’s greatest adversaries in the comic books and a fan favorite in his own right. He’s a supervillain who is every bit as brilliant, powerful, and dangerously driven as the heroes standing against him. And he seems perfectly suited to fill the void left behind by Thanos after the MCU’s disastrous attempt to build Kang the Conqueror into its next major threat.
Surprisingly, Doom isn’t much of a presence in this trailer, as Marvel Studios still appears to be playing coy with its new big bad. Sure, we get a few glimpses, but nothing that fully reveals Downey’s performance or what this version of the character has planned.
Thor, on the other hand, anchors this new preview, as Chris Hemsworth once again transforms him into a serious and battle-hardened warrior. Gone, from what we can tell, are the jokes and buffoonery that largely defined Hemsworth’s last couple of Thor films. This time, the God of Thunder appears deeply concerned about a threat that could very well destroy everything he has left... and everyone he still cares about.
“I’ve fought with many warriors in my time. They were far stronger than all of us put together... and they died.”
Well, it’s not exactly the greatest morale-boosting speech, but Thor certainly understands what’s at stake as he leads the roll call of heroes.

And let’s not forget: Chris Evans’s Steve Rogers has joined the fight too. And we’re sure Marvel still has plenty of other surprises waiting in the wings.
It has all the makings of an epic crossover event, very much in the spirit of Marvel comic-book specials where heroes from across different teams and worlds unite against one overwhelming threat.
We’re sure Marvel fans are going to eat it up. And if you’re a betting person, we couldn’t blame you for placing all your chips on Avengers: Doomsday becoming one of the biggest movie events of the year.
However, if we’re being honest, it’s hardly a guarantee, especially as these massive superhero events are starting to feel more stale than special. DC films this year have already felt the brunt of that growing superhero fatigue. And with the rise of auteur-driven horror this summer, audiences appear to be craving more originality than another round of interconnected superhero spectacle. Even Marvel can’t assume the old formula will still work.
There’s also another major factor working against its chances: Dune: Part Three. The massive sci-fi blockbuster, which has only grown in popularity over the years, is scheduled to arrive on the same day as Avengers: Doomsday, setting up a direct battle for audiences... and, more importantly, premium IMAX screens. Disney has already made a move to counter that competition with its own “Infinity Vision” theaters, though at the moment, it feels more like a branding maneuver than a genuine alternative.
Perhaps the real battle isn’t on the screen, but at the box office, with Dune: Part Three potentially becoming the Avengers’ real doom.

With Anthony and Joe Russo back at the helm, working from a script penned by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely, Avengers: Doomsday will feature one of the biggest ensembles ever assembled for a Marvel film—perhaps the largest since Infinity War and Endgame, both of which were also directed by the Russo brothers. The key difference is that Endgame felt like the culmination of several years’ worth of storylines, while Doomsday is arriving after a far more scattered and uneven build-up.
