Adrien Brody Grapples with Post-War Ambition in Trailer for Brady Corbet's Epic Drama "The Brutalist" with Felicity Jones and Guy Pearce
Fresh off receiving seven Golden Globe nominations this week -- including Best Picture, Best Director (Brady Corbet), Best Male Lead Performance (Adrien Brody), and Best Male and Female Supporting Performances (Guy Pearce, Felicity Jones) — "The Brutalist" is shaping up to be a top Oscar contender this year. Since winning the Silver Lion Award at the Venice International Film Festival, "The Brutalist" has been generating significant buzz — and it's only growing louder. And why shouldn't it? The film seems to have all the makings of a modern American classic, with its epic scope spanning several decades and delving into the post-World War II perception of the American Dream. Check out the official full trailer for the film that's sure to make plenty of noise this Oscar season.
Spanning the 1940s to the 1960s, Oscar-winner Adrien Brody stars as a Hungarian-born Jewish architect who survives the Holocaust and escapes to America, only to become entangled with a power-hungry, wealthy industrialist played by Guy Pearce. Felicity Jones co-stars as Brody's wife, who's striving to build a home for their family in post-war America.
Actor-turned-filmmaker Brady Corbet, known for his provocative films "Vox Lux" (2018) and "The Childhood of a Leader" (2015), directs "The Brutalist" from a screenplay he co-wrote with his filmmaking and romantic partner, Norwegian actress and filmmaker Mona Fastvold. With supporting performances by Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Emma Laird, Isaach De Bankole, and Alessandro Nivola, the film explores the turbulent era bridging the optimistic hopes of American exceptionalism with the rapid rise of corporate greed and cruelty.
"The Brutalist" is scheduled to hit theaters on December 20th, courtesy of A24 Films, the same studio behind the Oscar-winning drama "Moonlight."
