Looks like evil whitey is trying to keep the brown man down again, hard pass. "Former military soldier", really as opposed to what a "civilian soldier", who wrote this AI? The film also appears to have had a poor technical advisor based upon how low the drop leg holster is in the image. That low and it is hard to access and interferes with running.
That's funny because I never saw this as a "black vs white" thing, especially when the setting is that of a societal collapse or the immediate aftermath of an apocalypse. Those types of cultural and racial issues are normally thrown out the window in these kinds of films, especially when it’s just about protecting your own from outsiders. If anything, this film feels rather conservative in terms of the freedom to bear arms or protect one's property. I don't know, bro, the film has potential to entertain action junkies like myself. And I'm a fan of Danielle Deadwyler. So it's definitely a rental watch.
I may be reading too much into a trailer, which are often misleading. The lack of diversity in the family group is what initially caught my eye. A group of survivors would be expected to be less homogeneous. However their being a family could explain that away. It looked like all of the attacking group were Caucasian and according to Wikipedia the title is a reference to then family being descended from slaves and getting their "40 acres and a mule". All of which makes me further suspect this was agenda driven. I fully admit that it may be confirmation bias and I may be reading too much into random things in the trailer.
