SYNOPSIS __________

Plot:
It's the morning of his father's funeral and things aren't going great for Daniel (Matthew Macfadyen), especially when he discovers that the corpse in the coffin isn't his father.

Once that's corrected, his big concern is giving the eulogy, fearing it won't match up to those given by his brother Robert (Rupert Graves) at past family funerals. Robert's a best-selling novelist who lives in New York and as if that isn't frustrating enough for Daniel, who is a struggling writer, Daniel has also had to fork out for the entire cost of the funeral because Robert lives beyond his means. This is extremely bad, since it starts to cut into the deposit money for the flat he's long been promising his wife, Jane (Keeley Hawes), who can't take much more living with her mother-in-law, Sandra (Jane Asher).

But this is only the beginning. Daniel's cousin Martha (Daisy Donovan) shows up with her fiancé Simon (Alan Tudyk), who has mistakenly taken a concoction of hallucinogenic substances, manufactured by Troy (Kris Marshall), Martha's brother, a chemistry student and part-time drug dealer. Simon is convinced there's someone alive inside the coffin, and this in turn causes a huge hiccup in the proceeding funeral service. Things can't possibly descend any lower? They do. Peter (Peter Dinklage), apparently an old friend of Daniel's father, turns up at the funeral and informs Daniel that he holds evidence of a dark secret about his father, which he'll reveal unless Daniel agrees to hand over a substantial amount of money.

With the ensuing pressures of trying to keep his mother from finding out what's going on, his brother seeming to exacerbate the situation at every turn, his wife pressing him to commit to buying a flat, and a rogue bottle of hallucinogenic pills floating around, Daniel goes through hell and back in an effort to prevent his father's funeral from descending into total chaos.

Death at a Funeral is a film about life, death, love, family and a man's struggle to maintain his father's dignity when all the odds are stacked against him.
