SYNOPSIS __________

Plot:
The tension is unbearable, the rivalry is cut-throat and yet love is somewhere in the air as Britain’s leading glamour-wedding magazine kicks off a contest in which three seemingly happily-engaged couples vie to create the most to-die-for fantasy wedding. The proceedings are captured in Debbie Isitt’s witty and affectionate spoof comedy CONFETTI, in which video cameras follow the three-month long competition through melt-downs, blow-ups, family freak-outs, tailoring, choreography and even plastic surgery, all the way to the Big Day itself when each of the couples attempts to at last get hitched . . . without a hitch. But as the contest unfolds, and as each couple’s sweetly self-deluded dreams of a perfect wedding careen out of control, the operative question becomes not so much “who will win?” as “will any of the couples survive?”

In the tradition of Christopher Guest’s BEST IN SHOW and A MIGHTY WIND, this mock documentary, made up of sparkling improvised performances from some of Britain’s finest comedic actors, takes a peek at the most hilarious aspects of human behavior under pressure.

CONFETTI’s ensemble cast includes such popular British performers as Martin Freeman (THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY, LOVE ACTUALLY, "The Office"), Jessica Stevenson (SHAUN OF THE DEAD, SPACED, THE ROYLE FAMILY), Stephen Mangan (GREEN WING), Felicity Montagu (I'M ALAN PARTRIDGE), award-winning comedian Jimmy Carr in his first screen performance and Alison Steadman (TOPSY-TURVY, LIFE IS SWEET).

The entire cast, which also includes real people playing themselves, was given complete creative freedom to ad-lib their roles within the structure of a carefully crafted story frame. To prepare, the cast took part in weeks of intense workshops where they began the process of inhabiting and forging their characters, each with their own quirks, foibles and dreams. Conceived and directed by Debbie Isitt, CONFETTI is produced by Wasted Talent’s Ian Flooks and Ian Benson (THE WEEKEND, THE MISADVENTURES OF MARGARET). The film is a presentation of Fox Searchlight Pictures and BBC Films, a Wasted Talent Production, in association with Screen West Midlands.
