SYNOPSIS __________

Plot:
France, 1960. Saint Ange, an orphanage isolated in the Alps.

Long hallways of empty bedrooms. Rows of disused bathrooms.
Dormitories lined with little steel beds. Reminders of the disciplined days when children still inhabited the building.

Before the closing. One night an orphan had a fatal accident.

Now Anna (VIRGINIE LEDOYEN) – a fragile and solitary young woman - has been sent here to scrub the deserted institute. Helenka, the hearty and rational cook, can't understand Anna's odd and secretive behavior. And she can't count on any help from Judith, the sole remaining orphan at Saint Ange.

Anna worries Helenka, claiming she hears footsteps. Every night. And whispers

Sometimes even laughs.

Helenka can't persuade the young woman that it's all in her head, for Anna is adamant: There are children with her, somewhere in the house.
